The 55th annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo returns to Rapid City for a nine-day run starting Friday, Jan. 25. Events get underway at 10 a.m. each day through Saturday, Feb. 2.

This event features more than 100 events, 11 rodeos, 400 vendors, and 1,000 animals. The rodeo is one of the top five indoor PRCA rodeos and boasts the regions largest trade show, livestock sales, and com petitions.

Rodeo action begins Jan. 25 with the first of two rounds of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Extreme Bulls Tour. Seventy riders will compete for more than $50,000 in a two-day event.

Each night of the Extreme Bulls tour fea-tures 35 cowboys in a long go-round, with the top 10 brought back for a short go. The rider with the highest average score from both nights wins the title.

The first of five PRCA rodeo events is set for 1:30 p.m., Jan. 26, at the Don Barnett Arena. Other performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31; 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1; and 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2. Timed slack events start at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 and 31.

This rodeo has received 15 nominations for the PRCAs Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year honor. It won this award in 2002 and 2003.

The history of Sutton Rodeo Company parallels the growth and development of rodeo for nearly the entire 20th century and beyond.

In 1926, the Edwin Sutton family began producing their own rodeos on the home ranch in Sully County. Originally the rodeo was just a pleasant pastime when a group of people got together on a Sunday. However, Edwin saw a possibility for profit and joined with George Fairbank to begin a touring rodeo. The Depression shut down the pro-ductions, and they did not begin again until the mid-1940s.

James H. Sutton, Sr. took Sutton rodeo to the next stage in the 1950s when he entered into a partnership with Erv Korkow. As one of the first members of the RCA, Sutton/Korkow stock performed at the first National Finals Rodeo at Dallas, Texas in 1959. The company won Bull of the Year with Baldy in 1961 and had reserve champion horses Snake River in 1962 and Yellow Jacket in 1964. James was the first stock contractor to be inducted in the PRCA Hall of Champions in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1982.

In 1968, James Sutton, Jr. became a partner with his dad forming Sutton Rodeo Company, and the tradition continued. Sutton Rodeo had two top horses in the na-tion: Deep Water in 1979 and Big Bud in 1985. Jim, along with wife Julie, took the company to the next level with a focus on production and innovation. Jim began the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo in 1978, a rodeo nominated 10 times for PRCA Indoor Rodeo of the Year, winning this award in 2002 and 2003. Jim originated the Wrangler Bullfights and the Bailey Bail-Off. He is famous for his pageantry and colorful rodeo openings, including the openings at the NFR in 1995-96. Jim has been nominated four times as Stock Contractor of the Year.

Jims wife Julie, an experienced rodeo secre-tary and timer, is in charge of publicity and advance promotion. In 2010, Jim and Julie were honored by the SDSU rodeo team as distinguished alumni.

Jims son Steve is co-owner and NFR pickupman in three decades (1978, 1981, 1986, 1993 & 1995). As the fourth gen-eration of Sutton Rodeo Company, Steve has been a PRCA member since 1976, and became a stock contractor in 1982. He takes great pride in the history of Sutton Rodeo, striving to breed top-quality bucking stock and produce top-notch rodeos. Steve partic-ularly enjoys producing college, high school and 4-H rodeos. In 2010 Steve was induct-ed into the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center as Present Cowboy Great. Wife Kim assists the rodeo company in the areas of timing, publicity and marketing.

Steve and Kims children, the fifth gen-eration of Sutton Rodeo, while reaping the benefit of over 80 years of experience, are hard at work looking at ways to continue the legacy and add their own improvements to the company. Their daughter Amy started timing PRCA rodeos in 2006 and helps with Sutton Rodeos Inc. marketing. Her husband Steven Muller helps with the rodeo produc-tion. Son Brent started his career as a pick-upman in 2004 and became a PRCA con-testant in 2007. Son Brice joined the PRCA ranks in 2010. All have pursued college degrees in animal science and/or business and intend to use these degrees to continue the tradition of raising 90 percent of their breeding stock.

Sutton Rodeo stock has been selected to perform at 49 of the 51 National Finals Rodeos. Through five generations, Sutton Rodeo has had the pleasure of producing rodeos at every level: 4-H, high school, college, Indian National Finals, SDRA & PRCA.

Contestants will compete for more than $200,000 in prize money this year.

South Dakotas best high school riders take center stage at 1 p.m. Jan. 27 with the 20X Extreme Showcase. This event at the Don Barnett Arena features the top three competitors in 10 events from all four regions.

Open 4-D Barrel Racing starts Feb. 3 inside the James Kjerstad Event Center. Exhibitions begin at 9 a.m., followed by 4-D Open Jackpot and a Youth 3-D Jackpot. The 4-D Jackpot will not start before 12:30 p.m.

Rapid Citys chamber of commerce started the first Black Hills Winter Show in 1959. Events at the Central States Fairgrounds featured cattle shows at the Soule Building and 16 vendor booths at the Alfalfa Palace.

Three breeds of cattle angus, here-ford, and shorthorn were displayed at the 1959 show. Polled herefords joined the list of shown cattle breeds in 1962.

The Galloway breed was added to the mix in 1964, along with a Sunday morn-

ing breakfast to recognize cattle pro-ducers. Commercial Cattlemens Day resulted from this and is currently held on the stock shows first Sunday.

In 1966, the Central States Fair as-sumed leadership of the event and changed the name to the Black Hills Stock Show. This year also marked the first buffalo sale, held at the Custer State Park Buffalo Corrals.

The first Black Hills Stock Show ro-deo at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center occurred in 1978. Sutton Rodeos and the Central States Fair combined to produce that event.

Rushmore Plaza Civic Center became the permanent home of the Black Hills Stock Show in 1990.

Sutton Rodeos received one of the contracts for the Black Hills Stock Show in 1996. The Central States Fair got the other; the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center issued both contracts.

Black Hills Stock Show cattle sales included the first Black Hills Gold Rush in 2008.

Mike Matt

Mike Matt is a multi-talented ro-deo personality. Fans at rodeos and Professional Bull Riding events throughout the country have seen him perform as a professional bull fighter and as the star of a specialty act in which he rides roman style (standing up) on two thoroughbred horses and jumps over an automobile.

During the bull riding event, one or more athletes, dressed in clown

type clothing, stand near the bucking chute when the bull is released into the arena. When the bull rider is either thrown from the bull or dismounts on his own, the bull fighters step in be-tween him and the bull to distract the bull and allow the cowboy to escape from danger. Bull fighters perform a daring, dangerous and vital function by both entertaining the fans and pro-tecting the cowboy

Mikes bull fighting talents are documents by the fact that he won the 2004 Professional Bull Riders bull fighting competition during the PBR national finals in Las Vegas and prior to that time was a three time winner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys bull fighting competition before the PRCA dropped the event.

Three years ago, Mike introduced his new specialty act which has cap-tivated rodeo crowds throughout the country. Riding roman style on two horses he has trained himself, he cir-cles the arena to build up speed and momentum, finally approaching an automobile at full gallop and jumping over it. This act can also be performed at virtually any venue where there is sufficient room.

The national PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour re-turns to Rapid City on Jan. 25-26 at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo for the 7th Annual Rapid City Xtreme Bulls. Seventy of the worlds top bull riders will converge on the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to compete for $52,000.

The headliners scheduled to compete at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center include 13 bull riding qualifiers from the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, matched against the rankest PRCA bulls, many of which were selected for this past Decembers Wrangler NFR.

The reigning World Champion Cody Teel, of Kountze, Texas is in the lineup along with 2011 World Champion Shane Proctor, of Grand Coulee, Wash., 2004 World Champion Dustin Elliott, of North Platte, Nebraska, and fellow 2012 Wrangler NFR qualifiers Trey Benton III, of Rock Island, Texas; Kanin Asay, of Powell, Wyo.; Ardie Maier, of Timber Lake, S.D.; Trevor Kastner, of Ardmore, Okla.; Cody Samora, of Cortez, Colo.; Tate Stratton, of Kellyville, Okla.; Cody Whitney, of Asher, Okla., Beau Schroder, of China, Texas;

Clayton Savage, of Casper, Wyo.; Brett Stall, of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and Tag Elliott, of Thatcher, Utah.

The Xtreme Bulls Tour format features 35 cowboys participating in a long-go each night with the top 10 riders brought back for a short round. The Rapid City champion will be crowned based on the highest total score from both nights of competition. The payout for the Rapid City Xtreme Bulls event is $52,000. Monies won at PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour stops count towards the 2013 PRCA World Standings, which determine qualifiers for the Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas.

Performances on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26 begin at 7:30 p.m.

Loyd Ketchum

Loyd Ketchum began his career at an early age. Growing up in a small rural town in eastern Montana, rodeo was a part of everyones life. His mother is a barrel racer, and while traveling with his mother he devel-oped a love for horses and rodeo him-self. While attending high school and college he participated in every event except bareback riding. It wasnt until after college that he began his bull-fighting career. He began by working amateur rodeos, being both the funny man and the bullfighter.

In 1987 Loyd got his PRCA card and started bullfighting with the pro-fessionals. In the late 80s and early 90s, Wrangler Bullfighting became one of the most popular events at the rodeos. He not only participated in the bullfights, but he also worked as cowboy protection. One of Loyds

greatest achievements in his career was winning the Wrangler bullfights

at the NFR in 1991. From 1992-96, he was chosen to be the bullfighter at the NFR. Loyd was also very in-volved with RAWHIDE (Rodeo Athletes on Wellness).

During the 90s, Loyd established himself as one of the best bullfight-ers in the PRCA, which has generated enough work to keep him busy all year round. Not only working in the PRCA, he also worked many of the Bull Riders Only events that continued

on to be the PBR. Loyds slogan is Bullfighting with Class and Finesse. He consistently shows his dedication, loyalty, and support to both the PRCA and the sport of Rodeo. You can see Loyd signing autographs, public speaking and supporting his passion for the world of rodeo!

On September 5th, 2009, Loyd frac-tured hisT-12 vertebra and sustained a spinal cord contusion when he was thrown in the air by a bull and landed badly. A rod was inserted into his back and vertebras fused together. Doctors told him he would be fully recovered in six months, but four months later he was fighting bulls at the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo.

Every day is a good day Loyd states. Sometimes we hit a stumbling block in life for a reason; I just look at it as another challenge.

Justin Rumford

Justin Rumford is a third-genera-tion rodeo cowboy. His grandfather, Floyd Rumford, started Rumford Rodeo Company in the 1950s and ran the compa-ny until his death in 1998. Justins father, Bronc Rumford, took it over and still raises rodeo stock in the small town of Abbyville, Kansas.

Justin grew up in the rodeo business and has worked as a contestant and pickup

man in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association since 1999. He qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo, in steer wres-tling and saddle bronc riding, two of his four years of college. In 2010, his rodeo career took a different direction when he was asked by a friend to fill-in as the barrelman for a ro-deo in Kansas. One month later, he received his PRCA card to be a rodeo entertainer, and has not slowed down since!

In the short time that Justin has been a barrelman, he has already worked some of the best rodeos and with the best announc-ers and stock contractors in the business. The year 2012 is going to be a break-out year, as Justin has been selected to work several of the top PRCA rodeos, as well as the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY, and the PRCA Tour Finale in Omaha, NE.

Justin has been blessed with a family history and a bright future in the sport he loves, the greatest show on dirt, rodeo!! He looks forward to coming to coming to a rodeo near you!

Barrelman Keith Isley

When Keith Isley steps into the arena as the barrel man at the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo, he will have an extra spring in his step.

The ever energetic entertainer has been widely recognized as one of the greatest entertainers in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He joined the PRCA in 1995 and just had five rodeos booked.

His status in the association grew in 1999 when he received the Specialty Act of the Year award and that became the highlight of his career. He has been nominated and won more awards, but it is going to be hard to top what happened to him in Dec 2009, 2010 and 2011. The PRCA took time to honor the sports top personnel and rodeo committees at their annual awards banquet.

Isley has left the banquet both years as the most decorated winner of the night with three buckles --- his fifth consecutive Clown of the Year, third Coors Man in the Can and fourth Comedy Act of the Year. 2011 being

the third time he won these three awards the same year. He has been nominated again for these awards in 2012.

The native of North Carolina is quick to give credit to the rodeo committees that hire him and while he may not be a natural born entertainer he has embraced the challenge and developed routines that leave audiences wanting more.

I was really shy and the audiences were intimidating, he said. I finally got com-fortable with face paint and baggy pants put a shield between me and the audience. I started telling jokes and when the audience reacted, I enjoyed that.

His career in the rodeo arena started as a competitor. He competed in bareback riding and bull riding as a teenager in junior ro-deos. A couple years later and bullfighting caught his eye. At that time, bullfighters were expected to do comedy as well.

Isley found his niche and now entertains rodeo crowds across the country as the bar-rel man and with his specialty acts. His abil-ity to train animals is well known. He has learned to work the crowd and spends every second in the rodeo arena doing his best to make sure that every audience member has a good time.

After being in this business for over 30 years, I still get nervous he said. Then when you see the people react to the things you do, its very rewarding.

He will be gauging the reactions of the fans in the Rapid City Civic Center during the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo and doing his best to show them why he is one of the most decorated entertainers in the PRCA.

Josh Rivinius

Josh Rivinius from Elgin, ND began his rodeo career at an early age, from riding

calves and steers, to steer wrestling and bareback riding through high school. He soon found fighting bulls was his specialty. In 1997 he attended Sankey Rodeo School where he developed his skills. He provides one major job and that is cowboy protec-tion. Rivinius says every time cowboys and bullfighters leave the arena unharmed is a victory. Some of his achievements are; 8x Badlands Circuit Finals Bullfighter; Black Hills Stock Show; National Western Stock Show; 2x Tour Finale; Ram National Circuit Finals; College National Finals. When not running around bulls, Rivinius spends his time at home managing a commercial cow operation.

The PRCA Top Bucking Stock has been announced, rewarding the best bull and bucking horses for the 2012 season. Chuckulator of Sutton Rodeo Company in Onida, SD was named 2012 Saddle Bronc of the Year.

The 8-year-old Chuckulator has put together an impressive resume in a short amount of time. The colorful bay stocking legged stud horse is hyper and athletic. He won Bareback and Saddle Bronc of the Badland Circuit Finals in 2011, the first horse to win both awards in the same year. He also won Badland Circuit Saddle Bronc Horse of the year in 2012. He has been selected to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2010 and 2011, being voted as a Top Ten Saddle Bronc at the NFR in both of those years.

Hes not even reached his prime and he made the top 10 vote the last two years at the NFR, stock contractor Steve Sutton said. Hes just kept getting better all the time, and then this year we ventured out to a few more places that had short gos and he drew good cowboys and they all did well on him.

Chuckulator is a product of Sutton Rodeos Born to Buck program in which they raise 98% of the bucking horses they use. His Sire Justin Boots, Dam Midnight Star and Dams Sire Mr. T all were all selected to compete in the National Finals Rodeo.

Other Sutton Rodeo stock honored by the PRCA includes 1961 Bull of the NFR in Dallas, Baldy owned by Korkow/Sutton & Reserve Bareback of the NFR, Snake River both owned by Sutton; 1964 Reserve

Bareback of the NFR Yellow Jacket in Los Angeles; 1979 Saddle Bronc of the Year, Deep Water; 1985 Bareback Horse of the Year, Tombstone.

The awards were voted on by the top 20 cowboys in the world standings in each event as of September 18, 2012

PRCA Top bucking Stock Announced

The 28th Annual KBHB Bucking Horse and Bull Sale will be held on Wednesday, January 30th at 10:00 a.m. This sale features 50 head of Sutton Rodeo Ranch Raised Bucking Horses including the coming five year old colt crop raised by Sutton Rodeos. These colts are sired by studs Checkers, Gunsmoke, Showtime, and Wolfman-all sons of Justin Boots, Boom Boom, Dakota Time, and Dakota Bob. The mares of these colts have produced top quality bucking stock.

There will be 20 head of outside con-signed bucking horses including some very good futurity prospects. With the bucking horse futurities that are going on, these colts are the right age. The futurities in Faith and Las Vegas both had colts in the top final five that were purchased at this sale. The sale also includes 30 head of bucking bulls con-signed from proven herds.

Bucking Stock will be at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Tuesday afternoon, so that you can view them prior to the sale. This is one of the premier sales in the na-tion and has continued to get better every year. This offering looks to be one of the best ones yet.

Contestants enter January 30th at 8:30 a.m. at the Arena. There will be added prize money in the three rough stock events. Animals will be bucked on the day of the sale. This is a great opportu-nity to view new and upcoming bucking stock and riders.

Competition for the 2013 Miss Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo will be held Saturday, Jan. 26. The four con-testants will be judged on personality, appearance, horsemanship, personal interview, riding ability, speeches, mod-eling, media interview and answering of impromptu questions. This years contestants:

Kaira DempseyKaira Dempsey is the 22-year-old daugh-ter of Steven and Shelley Dempsey of Brookings, S.D. Kaira is a senior at South Dakota State University, major-ing in construction management with a business minor. She is an active member in numer-ous clubs and honor societies at SDSU. She spends much of summer months assisting in the Specialized Training and Riding Skills (STARS), Brookings Riding Club Fun Days, and going on trail rides. Kaira looks forward to graduating and finding a job as a project manager with a con-struction company. She is sponsored by Hometown Service and Tire, Case IH, The Wannabe Moose Lodge, and Jim Klinker-Farm Bureau Insurance.

Brittnay EntsmingerBrittnay Entsminger is the 24 year old ddaugh-ter of Bruce and Tamera Entsminger of Battle Creek, Mich. She has a younger sister, Cheyann and an older half brother, Bruce. Brittnay is a 2006 graduate of Pennfield High School, where she was an active member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, FFA, high school equestrian team, cheer-leading, and dance. Over the years, Brittnay has had many great accomplishments. Brittnay was the 2004 4-H horse princess, 2005 4-H horse queen, 2009 Calhoun County Fair Queen, 2011 Jackrabbit Stampede Ambassador 2nd runner up and the 2012 Days of 76 1st runner up and horsemanship winner. Brittnay was an active member in 4-H for 12 years being president for eight out of those 12 years, participated in hippology, horse bowl, 4-H and FFA horse judging and she was also the assistant coach for the Pennfield High School Equestrian team. She is a member of the American Paint Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Brittnay is currently finishing her degree in wildlife and fisheries and also finishing an associate degree in business from South Dakota State University. She was an active member of the South Dakota State University Equestrian team from 2008-2010 and a member of the South Dakota State University Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation Club. After obtaining her degree, Brittnay plans

on working for the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. In her spare time, she enjoys riding/showing horses, dancing, swimming, training horses, giving riding lessons, volunteering for different organizations, and spending time with family and friends. Brittnay currently lives in Hermosa and works for Destination Dentistry in Custer as a dental hygiene assistant.

Gina JespersenHello Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo fans! I am Gina Jespersen the 22-year-old daughter of Don and Joni Jespersen. Hemingford, Neb., is where I call home but can proudly say I have been living in South Dakota for the past five years. I attended South Dakota State University for four years as a member of the NCAA Division 1 Jackrabbit Equestrian Team. I am now fin-ishing my degree in elementary education at Black Hills State University in Spearfish. As a 5th generation rancher and farmer, my love for rodeo and the western values of hard work, honesty, and integrity drives my passion to become the 2013 Black Hills Stock Show Queen. Having attended this stock show and rodeo my entire life, as the ambassador I will promote the everlasting western legacy this even continues to showcase.

Mackenzi RogersMackenzi Rogers, 20, is the daughter of Suzanne and Travis Rogers. She was born and raised in Deadwood, S.D. She graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Lead-Deadwood High School, where she was actively involved in basketball, softball, track, student council, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mackenzi is currently a second year honors student at the University of South Dakota where she is pursuing a degree in medical biology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Sciences with the hopes of becoming a primary care physi-cian in rural South Dakota. At USD, she is involved in Honors Association, Habitat for Humanity, is the secretary of the Pre-Med Society, and is the founder and president of the USD chapter of Kick CF, a student or-ganization focused on fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis research.Mackenzi has always enjoyed spending time with and learning about horses. Her involve-ment in rodeo, queen pageants, helping young girls get into riding, and an extensive project on horses her senior of high school has only strengthened this passion. Mackenzi would like to share this passion for rodeo with people from all across the Black Hills and be-yond and help encour-age children of all ages to pick up the reins and get in the saddle.

An exciting new event at this years Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo will be the Battle of the Borders, Saddle Bronc Futurity. Futurities are popping up across the United States and Canada as the best opportunity to watch top contestants challenge stock contractors top horses. Saddle Bronc riding is rodeos oldest event. They recreate the classic battle of cowboys of yesterday, competing on tough broncs when their outfits met up.

Thirty of the top Saddle Bronc riders will compete for $13,000 in purse mon-ey. Thirty of the top saddle bronc horses will compete to accumulate team points for their owners for a money purse of $30,000. The top ten cowboys will ad-vance to the short round to compete on each contractors top horse.

Stock contractors with ten futurity horse teams representing the United States include Powder River Rodeo, Rock Springs, WY; Burch Rodeo, Gillette, WY; Sutton Rodeo, Onida, SD and Mosbrucker Rodeo, Mandan, ND. Teams from Canada include C5, Lac La Biche, Alberta; Outlaw Buckers, Hythe, Alberta; and Vold/Kling/Waagen , DeWinton, Alberta.

Contestants include all five of the

Wright brothers from Milford, UT in-cluding World Champions Cody & Jesse Wright and Codys son Rusty, the 2012 National High School Finals World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider. They will be joined by World Champion Taos Muncy of Corona, NM and an all star line up of NFR and Badland Circuit Finals champions.

The event takes place Tues. January 29th at 7:30 pm in the Barnett Arena at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The action starts at 5:00 p.m. with a Calcutta selling the 30 contestants and the 10 stock contractor horse teams. The 10 contes-tants in the short go will be sold during the event.

Winning horses from this kickoff event, qualify for the season finale held in Las Vegas, NV in December at the Southpoint Hotel and Casino.

Announcing the action will be PRCA Announcer of the Year, Wayne Brooks of Lampasas, TX. Rodeo entertainment includes 2012 PRCA Clown of the Year, Justin Rumford, Ponca City, OK!

Josh Hilton hails from a small town in southwest Iowa known as Sidney. Growing up a cowboy in a town known as Rodeo Town USA it is easy to see where his pas-sion for the sport comes from! Josh learned early on that his roping talent wasnt going to cut it in the big leagues so he started looking into other aspects of the business. Having always had a knack for entertaining, what better field to look into than production?

His first opportunity came as a part of the production team at the Tour Finale in Omaha, and from there, onto the Finale in Dallas, Texas. Those experiences really put the taste in his mouth for production.

Then, in 2005, Josh got a call that changed his lifeMike Cervi offered him a produc-tion job with the Cervi Championship Rodeo Co. Josh jumped on the chance and started out working their smaller rodeos. During this time he was lucky enough to observe the best rodeo productions at work many timesAnd learned what it should look and sound like.

Joshs natural ability to entertain continued to grow and he got his big break when the National Western in Denver called him to head up their rodeo production. That was my big break.it just took off from there! he recalls. Since then Josh has been blessed to be a part of some of America and Canadas biggest and best rodeos. He looks forward to every rodeo as a chance to do his best work and make each rodeo a better production for the paying customer!

Nicky Kimm, co-owner and operator of Chute Tunes Wild & Western Rodeo Music Productions has a long history of involvement with the western industry.

Nicky grew up in the small southern Illinois town of Walnut Hill where she helped with the family horse business on her par-ents Thoroughbred horse farm. Growing up she attended many rodeos at which her father compet-ed. She competed in 4-H horse judging, horse bowls, sports, and showed horses, qualifying for the world Junior Quarter Horse Show. After completing studies at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO, Nicky graduated as a doctor in 1997. Soon after that she went on to also become certified in Animal Chiropractic.

Nicky moved to Minnesota when she married her husband, rodeo announcer, Davie Kimm in August of 2000. Shortly after being married, Nicky learned about computer-generated music and sound to begin assisting Davie at rodeos where he

was announcing. When not on the ro-

deo road, Nicky can be found at Lakeville Family Chiropractic, putting on a seminar, or enjoying the great outdoors.

I have gone to rodeos my whole life and I believe without a doubt that it is the greatest sport. I like to use a variety of music to enhance everyone and everything at the event. I am honored to participate at your rodeo and hope you enjoy the show!

I started in rodeo in 1987 at the 101 Wild West Rodeo in Ponca City, Oklahoma. I sold Walter Alsbaugh, the stock contrac-tor, some wild bulls that came out of the swamps of Florida.

In those days I gathered wild cattle in several states. My slogan: "If you can turn'em loose, I can catch'em. The founda-tion of my rodeo career was horsemanship and the use of Blackmouth Cur dogs.

While at the rodeo in Ponca City, I wit-nessed an act that was low on talent. Of course, I mouthed off to the stock contrac-tor and he said "We'll just let you be the entertainment next year."

A fading cattle market and high interest had left me flat broke, $100,000 in debt and living with my grandmother. I built my first trailer from scratch and bought my first truck from my brother Bob for $800 (which took a year to pay-off).

My first show was in the same place the next year. I put five Corrientte steers on top of my trailer with the aid of Blackmouth Cur dogs. A few weeks later, Clem McSpaden hired me to go to Bushyhead, Oklahoma to perform in an 80 acre pas-

ture at his steer roping. There is where I received my first paycheck. It seemed like a paid vacation after three decades of work-ing on a ranch.

The first year, I entertained about 90 crowds traveling with the Walt Alsbaugh Rodeo Company and was nominated for PRCA Specialty Act of the Year. Though I did not win the award that year, I did win in 1989, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96 and then again 08, 09, 10, and 2011.

Animals in the show consist of Longhorn-Watusi Steers, Mustangs, Mules, and Buffalo. Blackmouth Cur dogs are a very intrical part of the training process. My son Lynn and daughter Amanda hit the road at the age of 18, which allowed us to take our show in three directions.

It is very fulfilling to have my son, Lynn, and daughter, Amanda, display their tal-ents.

They are truly my right hand. Soon, I will have grandkids in the show and may slow down a bit to spend more time with my wife, Judy.

dangerous, we would like to introduce you to Madison MacDonald and Roz Beaton, trick and roman riders ex-traordinaire. They have been referred to as One of the most accomplished groups of young ladies you will see anywhere!

Their extreme speed performances defy the law of gravity. They are a vi-sion of equine artistry, masterfully co-ordinated trick and roman riding that is a tribute to the western arts. Together they perform across North America at world renowned venues, while aston-ishing more than 250,000 spectators a year.

Madison at age 19 has performed across Canada and the United States. She was invited to perform at age 18 at the 2011 Wrangler National Finals and returned to perform there in 2012. Madisons lifelong dream has been to become a professional trick rider which she has been able to accomplish the past 13 years of her life. When not on the road, Madison also team ropes and professional barrel races. She is currently attending Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX where she is enrolled in Business Administration.

At 23 years of age Rae-Lynn has been trick riding for the past 15 years. She has performed across Canada and the United States. At the Will Rogers Wild Expo in Claremore, OK Rae-Lynn competed and placed 1st in Group Performance and 2nd in the Womens Individual Performance. When not on the road, Rae-Lynn works on her fami-ly cattle ranch along with training and conditioning horses.

Roz currently resides in Decatur, TX and has been trick riding for the past 11 years. She is a professional barrel racer that rodeos throughout Canada and the United States. When shes not on the road she dedicates her time into training barrel racing horses. Roz is an exceptional trick rider who toured with the multi-million dollar Cirque du Soleil equestrian show Cavalia, which is a world renowned production.

All three young women were featured in the 100th anniversary celebration for the Calgary Stampede where they com-pleted 30 shows over a ten day period.

They have all done stunt work on the CBC Heartland Television Series.

The Rodeo Girls will be performing at the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center January 31st through February 2nd, 2013.


Rodney Yost is a 4th generation South Dakota rancher who has been involved with the ranching and horse customs his entire life. He's been on horseback since he was a baby in diapers on his family's ranch, started training ponies at the age of 10, and trained his first horse at the age of 13.
