Welcome back to Adventures in Art!
Students in grades 2-5 have been making their portfolios to keep all of
their two-dimensional artwork.
Parents are welcome to view their child’s creative artwork at any time
throughout the year. Portfolios will go home in May.
Our student’s artwork will
be displayed at various businesses around town
and we will be entering a variety of art contests
throughout the year. I will
keep your posted on all the details.
Some of the artists that your children
will learn about this year are: Monet, da Vinci, Matisse, Picasso, Renior,
Van Gogh, Rembrandt and many
more! We will also incorporate the elements of art in our designs which
are color, form, line, shape, texture, and value. The principles of design
will also be explored which are
balance, emphasis, pattern, rhythm, unity and variety.
All students will be provided
an apron/smock in the art room. Please remember that the art room
can be a creative and messy place at
times! You are welcome to send your child with an oversized shirt or
smock/apron of some type of their own if your wish.
Parents are welcome to
volunteer in the art room!
Remember that your trash is
my treasure! I will be collecting various items to turn into
creative creations throughout the year.
Here are a few items that I am collecting at the present: Newspaper,
buttons, 2 liter plastic soda bottles, bleach bottles with handle, pizza
boxes, refrigerator or any extra- large
boxes, yarn, crayons (new and old)
Thank you for your support in
making the arts a priority and creative experience for our students!

How do I know if my child is Gifted and Talented?
Ask yourself:•Does my child usually perform one or two grade levels beyond what is expected?•Does my child easily master new information and/or consistently ask “what if ” questions?•Does my child comprehend in-depth, complex ideas and enjoy self-directed learning?•Does my child enjoy creating, improvising, and being original?
Please let your campus and/or GT Teacher know that you would like to nominate your child. The deadline for nominating is October 5, 2012. Gifted and Talented Program testing will begin October 15 and will extend to October 26. You will be notified in writing of the “Selection Committee” decision regarding the placement of your child. If you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to contact the G/T Program teacher at the campus.
GIFTED AND TALENTED
LIBRARYWelcome to a wonderful new school year in the George H.W. Bush Library. We will be reading many wonderful books and “Testing our Wits” with the “Accelerated Reader” program via the Internet. Our Scholastic Book fair is scheduled during October and we will, once again, participate in the great state of Texas’ Bluebonnet Reading Program. This is the year for “Reading at Home”. Please read with your younger children every night and encourage your older children to read a variety of different genres. Reading is a gift to treasure for a lifetime. We are all excited about this new school year and the library is the best place to check out exciting new books. Our goal is to instill a love of reading in your child.
