New Hope kept me out of trouble and the staff was always nice to me. I like being able to return and help the program that helped me so much”. Family Center Director, Guillermo Rivera stated, “Eric was a tremendous addition to our staff this past summer. The kids easily identified with him when they learned he was a former NHC student and learned that they too can succeed in whatever they choose to do in the future.”

Message from the President and Executive Director

As we embark on another season of events in support of New Hope Charities, we wanted to take a minute to thank our board, donors, event supporters and volunteers for your help throughout the past season.

Highlights of what contributions have helped to achieve at the Family Center in Pahokee this past year include:

• After School Program – 76% of students show marked academic improvement. • We are the only non-Board of Education agency

selected to implement a pilot program, Afterschool Literacy Enhancement Program (ALEI). Over 2,000 books read. • Food Program – 2,316 food bags were distributed to families in need and close to $150,000 in home essentials were gifted through our partnership with Bed Bath and Beyond.• New Hope Charities - accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) recognizing outstanding providers of human services.• 2500 toys distributed for the holiday through the Annual Toy Drive.

It is with much pride and gratitude that we ask you to please join us again this year and extend our hand in friendship to all those who have taken New Hope Charities’ families and children into their hearts. Thank you!

Golf for Kids Tournament Raises Funds for Family Center

New Hope Charities, Inc. held its 12th Annual Golf for Kids Tournament, chaired by Alex Fanjul and William Surtees, on April 23, 2012 at the prestigious Dye Preserve in Jupiter. The event raised over $65,000 in support of New Hope Charities’ programs helping children and families in western Palm Beach County.

Windy conditions made The Dye Preserve’s ‘Pete Dye-designed’ golf course even more challenging, but this did not hamper the golfers resolve to make the best

of the day. Participants had a great time while raising funds for a good cause.

Events of the day included putting contests, a Cuban-style lunch buffet, a raffle offering exciting prizes, a live auction, and an awards ceremony with cocktails following the tournament. Gracious supporters of this event each year include Sheriff Bradshaw on behalf of the Palm Beach County Sheriff Department offering a “Sheriff for a Day” package for our live auction, Al Packer Ford providing the Hole-in-One Car Prize, and our event Sponsors – William H. Pitt Foundation, Florida Crystals, AON Risk, CASE IH/Glade & Grove Supply Co., Bacardi, and SSI Petroleum.

Grace Healthcare Solutions Providing On-site Care for Families

Since opening last year, Grace Healthcare Solutions has provided a wide range of medical services to the community at the clinic at the New Hope Charities campus. Having an affordable healthcare provider on-site is a much needed component necessary to improve the standard of living for Pahokee’s citizens.

Services include well-child check-ups, school physicals and immunizations, women’s health services, acute illness treatment and general family health. They plan to add a mentoring program for junior and high school students and to use the New Hope Charities location as a clinical rotation training site for medical professionals. Also planned is a series of health education programs to include diabetes education, good nutrition, hypertension prevention and treatment and other topics of daily concern to the community.

New Hope Charities Appoints Fundraising Manager

Jane Maestro has joined New Hope Charities as Fundraising Manager. Ms. Maestro previously served as Marketing Director, Development Director and Executive Director at non-profit organizations in South Florida and Philadelphia, PA including the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

Before her career in non-profit management, Ms. Maestro lived in Israel where she worked as a teacher of grades K-4 and a graphic artist. This experience later informed her choice of career in non-profit development, especially in a rural area on behalf of children and families in need.

She said, “The minute I first set foot in the Glades while consulting for other non-profits I fell in love with the area and the people. I am especially pleased to join New Hope Charities serving the people of Pahokee. Since coming to Florida I have developed an abiding affection for the Glades region and believe there is no other place more deserving of my professional efforts. I am one of those fortunate people who truly enjoy their work. I invite New Hope Charities’ supporters to contact me to find out how to become involved as a volunteer or donor”. She can be reached by e-mail at [email protected] or call her direct line 561-366-5093.
