Our 2012-13 Season is a chance for you to experience high-quality comedic theater that amazes, challenges, delights, pushes boundaries, makes you think, and creates community through laughter.
Our annual political variety show, This Is The Week That Is, combines WHIPSMART SATIRE with cutting-edge video and over-the-top production numbers every year to speak comedic truth to power.
And as we race towards the 2012 presidential election, there will be no shortage of material!
We continue our commitment to local artists with the VIRTUOSIC PHYSICAL COMEDY Dave & Aaron Go To Work, a Laurel and Hardy inspired silent piece which features neo-vaudevillians,
and Philadelphia favorites, Dave Jadico and Aaron Cromie.
Playwright Jeffrey Hatcher’s To Fool The Eye is a BLISSFULLY ROMANTIC SCREWBALL COMEDY that looks at the fleeting nature of memory and the heartbreakingly humorous ache of love.
And we close the season with It’s My Party: The Women and Comedy Project, a ROCKSTAR COMEDY EXTRAVAGANZA that celebrates the role of humor in women’s lives and features an
ensemble of truly brave, sexy, fabulous, intelligent, and hilarious women.
IT’S A SEASON YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS! So I hope you will join us and find out what these subscribers on our brochure already know – 1812 is what’s so funny.

1812’s original political satire returns just in time for the 2012 presidential election, ready to put
Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to thetest. Voters can look forward to a special
Election Pageant (complete with swimwear and talent competitions), hearing the candidates
do some confrontational crooning in American Presidential Idol, up to the minute reporting from
1812’s This Is The Week That Is news team, and, of course, a visit from the voice of reason herself,
Patsy from South Philly.

A visually stunning, wordless comedy with music, Dave & Aaron Go To Work tells the story of
two buttoned-down everymen, one fastidious and one rumpled, living their lives in a
shoebox-sized apartment.
With more than a nod to Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton,
Dave & Aaron Go To Work features Barrymore Award winning neo-vaudevillians Dave Jadico
and Aaron Cromie, tightly choreographed slapstick, whimsical puppetry, and stage magic
in a show that will delight audiences from 6 to 106.

A gossamer comedy confection, To Fool The Eye is Jeffrey Hatcher’s (Compleat Female Stage Beauty,
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde) new adaptation of Jean Anouilh’s romantic comedy Leocadia.
In To Fool The Eye, Amanda, a poor hatmaker from Paris, is invited to a chateau by an eccentric duchess to spend a weekend trying to make the
duchess’ suicidal nephew forget about the death of his great love—the divine Leocadia. But Amanda
soon finds she isn’t the only one asked to play a part as, throughout the weekend, layers of reality
literally fall away to reveal that the trick of true love is no trick at all.
Presented in collaboration with Drexel University’s Mandell Professionals in Residence Project (MPiRP) which is supported in
part by a grant from the Samuel P. Mandell Foundation.
FEB. 14 – MAR. 3 Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcherfrom Jean Anouilh’s LeocadiaTranslated by Stephanie L. DebnerStarring Maureen Torsney-Weir
“A delightful farce that intelligently wonders about the nature of love”

It’s My Party: The Women and Comedy Project is the brainchild of 1812 Productions’ Artistic Director, and “the
funniest woman in Philadelphia,” Jennifer Childs. This comedy extravaganza will be the culmination of two years
of research, a dozen workshops, and nearly a hundred interviews with women from all walks of life—exploring,
and exposing, the role of comedy in women’s lives.
Starring Susan Riley Stevens, Drucie McDaniel, Charlotte Ford, Cathy Simpson, Bi Jean Ngo,
Cheryl Williams, and Melanie Cotton, It’s My Party is a unique blend of physical comedy, storytelling, and music
in a one-of-a-kind theatrical event.
