Headvisedthathehadreceivednominationsfromthreeapplicantsthatwouldfillthesetwopositionsandthepositionleftvacantatlastyear’sAGM.

TheCEOadvisedthathehadreceivednominationsfromMarissaBechta,RebeccaBridgeandJohnForbesandheaskedM.Harford,D.VanderWaltandS.Stingemoretoprovidesomepersonalbackgroundoneachrespectiveapplicant.TheCEOaddedthathehadmetallthreeandwassupportiveoftheirapplication.

6. Election of Office Bearers.

TheChairmanindicatedthathewashappytocontinueintheroleanditwasmovedS.StingemoreandsecondedC.PorterthatD.VanderWaltcontinueintheposition.Passedunanimously.

TheChairmanaskedtheCEOifanynominationhadbeenreceivedforD/ChairmanandheadvisedthatS.StingemorehadindicatedthathedidnotwishtocontinueintheroleandhehadreceivedanominationfromMalHarford.ItwasmovedC.PorterandsecondedD.WrightthatthenominationbeacceptedandtheboardendorsedthisnominationunanimouslyandMrHarfordwaselectedasD/Chairman.

7. Election of Auditors and Agree to Remuneration.

TheChairmanaskedtheCEOtocommentonthecurrentpositionandheadvisedthatFrancisA.Joneshadbeentheauditorsforseveralyears,werefamiliarwiththesystemsinplaceandhadprovidedaquoteof$3000(incGST)tocontinue.ItwasmovedD.VanderWaltandsecondedD.Wrightthattheybere-appointed.Agreedunanimously.

8. General Business

8.1S.StingemoreexpressedhisgratitudetoretiringboardmembersR.StrangerandSMcMahonandsuggestedtheybeconsideredforlifemembershipafterservingsuchlongtermsontheboard.ThiswasmovedS.StingemoreandsecondedD.VanderWaltandpassedunanimously.

S.StingemorealsoexpressedhisappreciationtoDavidVanderWaltfor hiscontributionasChairmanwhichwassupportedbyallboardmembersandtheChairmanthankedtheboardfortheirsupport.

Therebeingnofurtherbusinessthemeetingwasclosedat5.50pm.

Thepast2012-13athletic yearhasagainprovedvery successful forAthletics WA (AWA). The grass roots of the sport has continued togrowandwiththisgrowthcomesalltheassociatedbenefitsofgreaterfinancialsecurity,improvedcompetitionandscopetoprovidestrongerleadershipandmanagement.

The leadership andmanagement skills of the CEO ofAWA,WayneLoxley cannot beunderstated in the growth anddevelopment of oursport. Acknowledgement must also be noted of the support Waynereceivedfromhisteamandallthevolunteerofficialswhocanalsolayclaimtothecurrentsuccessofathletics.

AWA’sregistrationscontinuetogrowandalthoughnotassignificantastheyearafterAWA’smovetotheWAAthleticStadiumstillequatestoatenpercentgrowth.Thisgrowthofregistrationsandweeklycompetitorsaugurswellforthefutureofathletics.

AWA hosted theAustralian National Junior Championships inMarch2013 and this event proved to be the biggest Junior Championshipeverheld inAustralia.Thiseventwascombinedwith the ‘HealthwayGo for2&5’PerthTrackClassicandhighlightedagreateveningof

athletics.Supportingthiseventwasafieldofapproximately175volunteersfromaroundAustraliawhocontributedtothesuccessoftheweekofnationalandinternationalathleticsinWA.TheBoardofAWAacknowledges thesupportof theStateGovernment through ‘Eventscorp’ inenabling thisevent tobeheldinWA.AccompanyingthejuniorathletesattheChampionshipsweremanyfamilieswhohadtheopportunitytoappreciateandenjoyanextraordinaryState.

FollowingthisweekofathleticsAWAhostedtheBankwestGallipoliFunRunatKingsParkinApril2013.ThiseventisnowbecomingamajorattractiononthecommunityfunruncalendarandagainhighlightstheleadershipandmanagementoftheAWAteam.SpecialmentionmustbemadeoftheteamatBankwestwhosecreativityandgenerositytotheWAcommunityhasenabledthegrowthandsuccessofthisevent.AWAhasagaindisplayedtheabilitytoconductmajoreventsofstateandnationalsignificance.

Duringtheyear,AWAandWesternAustraliaLittleAthleticshavecontinuedtoworktogetherunderthebanneroftheCommunityAthleticsCouncilofWA.Itisnowfairtostatethatthismodelhasnowbeendiscussedandconsidered fornational implementation.TheCouncilhasbeen recognisedonaStatebasis,whichhasenabledanumberofjointdevelopmentalandtransitionalprogramstobeimplementedforthebettermentofthesport.Resultstodatehavebeenpromisingandprovidegreatencouragementfor the future of the Council.

ThishasbeenaverybusyandproductiveseasonandImustthankthemembersoftheBoardfortheirpersonalcontributionsandcommitment.TheBoardhasnowachievedabalanceandmixofindependentprofessionalskillsenablingsoundgovernance,whichmustbetheenvyofothersports.

AWAnowfacestheverypleasingchallengeofcopingwiththeeverincreasinggrowthofthesportintheforthcomingyear.

Finally,onbehalfoftheBoardofAWA,staff,officialsandathletesIwishtoexpressourappreciationtotheGovernmentofWA,TheMinisterforSporttheHon.MrTerryWaldronandtheDepartmentofSportandRecreationfortheirongoingsupportforcreatingmanyfundingopportunitiesenablingthegrowthandpromotionofathletics.

ItiswithpleasurethatIcanreportanothersuccessfulyearfromagovernance,membershipandfinancialperspective.

IwouldhoweverlikethisreporttopromotemorethanthesecommercialindicatorsasathleticsinWAhasneverbeeninahealthier,morepositiveposition.ItisalsoanopportunitytousethetermathleticsinitsbroadestsensewithLittleAthleticsinasimilarpositionwithrecordregistrationsandaneffective,communicativeadministrationledbyExecutiveOfficerSamyaMonacowhohasbeenapleasuretoworkwith.

ThepresenceoftheCommunityCouncilofWAcontinuestoforgestronglinksbetweenlittleandseniorathleticsthatenablethesporttodeliverarangeofdevelopmentprogramsandleadthewayinthisarea.

Inthepast12months,wehavefocusedonsupportingourclubswiththeappointmentofpersonneltocoordinateandpromotethebestsharingofresourcesandtransitionfromjuniortoseniorathletics.

ThemagnitudeofthegrowthofseniorathleticsinWAcanbegaugedbythefactthatweeklycompetitionnumbersactuallyexceedthetotalnumberofregisteredathletes,priortomovingtotheWAAthleticsStadiumin2009.

ThesuccessfultransitionprogramwasagainsupportedbytheexcellentworkbyLindsayBunnandhisteaminthedeliveryoftheIndigenousDevelopmentProgramthatcontinuestoprovideoutstandingresultsthroughoutregionalWAwithmanyoftheseathletesmakingtheirwaytocompeteintheWAAllSchools.

Therecontinuestobeastrongemphasisontheeducationanddevelopmentofcoachingandofficiatingatalllevels.ThenewcoachingframeworkwaswellacceptedanditisalandmarkforthesporttofinallyhavesomeonededicatedtotherecruitmentandsupportofofficialsinMarionBuchanan.

ThisyearcontainedperhapsthebiggestweekinWAathleticshistorywithPerthhostingtheweeklongNationalJuniorChampionshipsculminatingintheGofor2&5PerthTrackClassic.TheNationalJuniorsattractedarecordnumberofathletesincludingmorethan300fromWAwhichistriplethesizeofourpreviousteams.

AthleticsWAisnowbetterresourcedtofocusonHighPerformancethaneverwiththesupportoftheAustralianSportsCommissionandAthleticsAustraliaenablingustoestablishtheTargetTalentProgramthatsupportstheeliteyouthandtheircoaches.TestimonytothistalentisthatWAcontributed20%oftheAustralianteamtocompeteattheWorldYouthChampionshipsinUkraineinJuly.

ThepresenceofthisoutstandingyoungtalentwasfurtherhighlightedonthelocalfrontwithBriIlarda,CharttMillerandAmyMcCormickbreaking40yearoldstaterecordsinthe3000m,1500mand2000msteeplechaserespectively.

AthleticsWAcontinuestoreceivefantasticsupportfromcorporateandgovernmentagencypartnersthatfacilitatestheeffectivedeliveryofathleticstothebroadercommunityandtheyincludetheDepartmentofSportandRecreation,Healthway,Bankwest,YoungsHoldenandourmediapartnersRadio6PRandTheWestAustralian.

IwouldalsoliketoagainthankourhardworkingteamofJohndeBes,KylieWheeler,JayneMitchell,MarionBuchananandAlexMalcolmfortheircontributionintheirrespectiverolesthroughoutthepastyear.

Alexleavesusasheobtainsanopportunitytoprogressinhischosenfieldinthemediaandwewishhimwellandlookforwardtohisdulcettonecontinuingtobethevoiceofcommentaryatourcompetitions.

IampleasedtoadvisethatwehavebeenabletoexpandourmanagementteamwiththeappointmentofSteveStingemoreasOperationsManagerandhisexperienceinthesportwillbeinvaluabletoouradministrationteamandgeneralmembership.

ItisalsowithconfidencethatIdeclaretheuniquenessofourdiverseboardthatcontainsarangeofprofessionalskillswhosefundamentalaimistosupporttheadministrationinachievingourstrategicandoperationalaimsandIwouldliketopersonallythankChairmanDaveVanderWaltforhisleadershipinthisarea.

Aswitheachyear,Ileavethefinalaccoladetoourfantastic,energeticandagelessgroupofofficialswhocontinuetosupportouradministrativeteamandmemberswhereeverpossibleandIpersonallyfeelindebtedtothemfortheircontinuedsupport.

The2013PerthTrackClassicculminatedthebiggestweekofathleticsinWesternAustraliawhichincludedhostingtheNationalJuniorChampionshipsforthefirsttime.

Infrontofarecordcrowdofmorethe4600,the2009WorldChampionDaniSamuelscontinuedhergoodformwithyetanotherIAAFWorldChampionshipsA-Qualifiertowinthewomen’sdiscusattheGofor2&5PerthTrackClassic,asthreeofherAustralianFlameteammatesachievedB-QualifiersandGregRutherford(GBR)wonthemuch-anticipatedmen’slongjump.

Openingheraccountwith60.86m,Samuelsserieswasconsistentwithherremainingthrowsof59.66m,59,88m,61.06mandafoulleadingtoherwinningmarkinthefinalroundtotakevictoryfromKimMulhall(Vic,second,52.17m)andTarynGollshewsky(Qld,third,51.58m)

JoiningSamuelsinthemixforIAAFWorldChampionshipsselectionafterachievingB-QualifierswasLiamZamel-Paez(Qld,highjump),KimMickle(WA,javelin)andAlanaBoyd(Qld,polevault).

Zamel-Paez,whohasmissedmuchofthelasttwoAustralianseasonsasaconsequenceofinjury,soaredanewpersonalbestof2.29mtowinthemen’shighjumpandrecordhisfirstqualifier.

A2010CommonwealthGamesrepresentativeandthree-timenationalchampion,Zamel-Paezsailedover2.10m,2.16mand2.21mbeforepassinguntilhiswinningmarktoedgeoutIAAFWorldJuniorChampionshipsrepresentativeBrandonStarc(NSW,second,2.23m).

Returningtothethrower’srunwayafteramonster62.53mbesteffortattheSydneyTrackClassic,MickleasaWesternAustralianwasalocaldrawcardattheGofor2&5PerthTrackClassic.Keennottodisappointherhomecrowd,shehurled60.11mwithherthirdthrowtotakeaclearvictoryfromAustralianunder20championWasieToolis(Qld,second,45.12m).

“Anycompetitionwithasixasthefirstnumberisagoodresult.We’vetakenthefootoffthepedalthesepasttwocompsandtoseesomebiggerthrowsasaconsequenceisagoodresult,”Micklesaid.

Boyd’sstartinPerthwasherfirstsincereturninghometoQueenslandtotrainundertheguidanceofherfatherRayBoyd.

Relishingthestillconditions,theAustralianrecordholderenteredthecompetitionlastat4.25mbeforebattlingitoutwith2012OlympicdebutantLizParnov(WA,second,4.40m)at4.50mtowin.Boyd’sthirdattemptclearancecementedhersuccess,butwhenthebarwasraisedtotheIAAFWorldChampionshipsA-Qualifyingmarkof4.60mshestumbled.

Inadisappointingresult,OlympicsilvermedallistMitchellWatt(Qld)wasforcedtowithdrawfromthemen’slongjumpafterexperiencingcrampasheranintojump.

ThislefttheBritishrecordholderandOlympicchampionGregRutherford(GBR)tobattleitoutwithCommonwealthGamesmedallistIgnisiousGaisah(GHA)acrossthesix-jumpseries,withRutherfordsoaring7.89m(w:0.0)tonarrowlydefeattheGaisah(7.76m,w:0.0).

“Thisisverydisappointing.ObviouslysomanypeoplewerelookingforwardtoseeingmejumpagainstGregtonightandformeIwaskeentocloseoutalongpreseasonandgetbacktojumping,”Wattsaid.

STRIVE TRACK AND FIELD SEASON

The2012/13StriveTrack&Fieldseasonstartedonthe26th of October2013andconcluded7thApril2013.DuringtheseasontheWAAthleticsStadiumplayedhostto17Striveprograms.FridaynightwasagainathleticsnighthoweverforthesecondseasonweconductedthelastmeetpriortoChristmasontheThursdayeveningwhichseemssuccessfulandthefinalmeetoftheseasonontheSundaymorning.

AlltheChampionshipeventswereagainheldattheWAAthleticsStadium.TheseincludedtheWAAllSchools,WAStateChampionships,CombinedEventsStateChampionships,State10kmwalkandtheJohnGilmourState10km.

Membernumberswereupbyroughly100membersonlastseasonalmostentirelyduetoanincreaseinthejuniors.ThiswasquitelikelyaresultofWAhostingtheAustralianJuniorChampionships.WhatwasmostpromisingthoughwastheincreasedattendanceattheStrivecompetitions.

Asalwaysthereweresomeexceptionalresultsduringtheseasonincludinganumberofinterstateathleteswhobroke28AllComersrecordsattheAustralianChampionships.HoweverspecialcongratulationsgotothefollowingWAathleteswhobrokerecords:

WA State ChampionshipsThisseasonsawanothertrialofformatfortheStateChampionships.Onceagaintheagegroupscombinedinareturntothe‘allages’championshipsbuttheywerecontestedovertwoweeks,Thursday14th,Friday15thandFriday22ndFebruary.Therewasanincreaseincompetitornumberswith465athletescompetingandthiswouldbemostlikelyduetotheincreasednumberofjuniorscompetinginabidtoearnselectionorpreparingfortheAustralianJuniorChampionships.

AUSTRALIAN ALL SCHOOLS 2012 REPORT - HOBART

Friday 30th December – Sunday 2nd December 2012A team of 74 athletes represented Western Australia at the Australian AllSchoolswhichwashostedbyAthleticsTasmania.ThemajorityoftheteamflewoverontheThursdayandaccommodationwasattheUniversityofTasmaniaoverlookingtheDerwentRiver.TheweatherconditionswereextremelywindyontheSaturdayandonlyslightlybetterontheSunday.Extra-curricularactivitiesincludedatriptothetopofMountWellington,avisittothemodernartgalleryMONAandrefreshmentbreaksatSalamancaBay.

The athletes are to be commended for the way they handled the weatherconditions and were able to put in some magnificent individual and relayperformances.ForthefirsttimeWesternAustraliawontheSmallStatesShieldwhich isawonderfulachievement.Congratulations to theathletesandabigthankyoutotheparentsandcoachesfortheirsupport.

WA Athletics Stadium - 12th-17th March 2013TheAustralianJuniorChampionshipswashostedbyAthleticsWAinPerthforthefirsttime.Over1500athletesfrominterstateandoverseasparticipatedinthesixdaychampionships.

Localathletestookadvantageofthisrareopportunitytocompeteatanationallevelontheirhometrack.TheWAteamgrewtoamassive311competitorswhichhighlightsthetravelproblemswehavewhensendingteamstotheeastcoast.ItwaspleasingtoseeanincreaseintheU/14&U/15agegroups.

Annual report season 2012-2013

OFFICIALS - PARTICIPATIONInmoving forward to achieve a greater depth and quality of officialsAWAhasmadeconsiderable changes to the structuregoverning therecruitment,trainingandretentionofofficialsduringthesummer2012-2013trackandfieldseason.

Athletics Australia also realising the need to recruit and train moreofficialsformedtheAthleticsAustraliaOfficialsAdvisoryCommittee,towhichAWABoardmemberStephenStingemorewasappointed.Theintentof thisCommittee is to recruitand identifypotentialofficials forthe2018CommonwealthGamesbeingheldinQueensland.Flowingonfromthisappointment,FionaBrownwasappointedasAWA’sEducationOfficerassistedbyJenniferWheatley.

UndertheauspicesoftheCommunityAthleticsCouncilofWAMarionBuchananwasappointedastheOfficialsCoordinatorforbothAWAandWALA.

Thisgroupnowformsthebasisforthefuturerecruitmentandtrainingof officials to deliver greater ‘Participation’ and professionalism byvolunteerofficials.

Inrecognitionoftherolethatofficialsplayinthesportofathletics,AWA’snextphaseistocreateandformalisean‘OfficialsClub’dedicatedtothemanagementandneedsofofficials.

This seasona strongemphasishasbeenon theeducationanddevelopment of officials resulting ineducationalandawarenessseminarsbeingpresentedontrack,jumps,throws,generalandwalks.Theseseminarswerewellattendedwithanaverageof22officialsateachsession.Supportingtheseminarswereaccreditedofficials,LindseyGlass(throwspractical)JeanetteRobertson(trackandgeneral)BruceWilsonandMarionBuchanan(walks).

Aspartofthedevelopmentprograma‘Mentor’systembasedoncompetencyhasbeendevelopedwhereofficialsworkatacompetitionsitewiththeirmentorandareprovidedwithtimelyandrelevantfeedback.

TheaimistoprovidetheofficialswithincreasedknowledgeandtoassisttheimplementationofAthleticsAustralia’snewJointOfficialsEducationstructurecurrentlybeingdeveloped.

AWA officials recently upgraded their Athletics Australia qualifications by successfully completingexaminationsinvariousdisciplinesandfurtherexaminationsarebeingheldinMayandJune.

Althoughonlyrecentlyimplementedtheofficials’newstructureshasresultedinnewregularofficialswithothersinvolvedonanirregularcapacity.Theemphasisoneducationanddevelopmenthasresultedinarefreshedenergywithintheofficials’communityandwithnewrecruitsjoiningresultinginarenewedvitalityatcompetitions.

Thehighlightofthe2012–13seasonswastheAustralianJuniorNationalChampionshipscombinedwiththePerthTrackClassicheldinPerthduringMarch2013.Underpinningthesuccessofthiscompetitionwere175officialsfromaroundAustralia.Keyofficialroleswereawardedtothefollowinglocalofficials,FionaBrown,JuneStreeter,MarionBuchanan,CarolHale,BobChalmersandGeoffGarnett.Thesekeyofficialsweresupportedbylocalofficialsandvolunteers.

CLUBS

Club DevelopmentAkeypriorityforAthleticsinWAthisyearwastoimprovethecapacityofourclubstoprovidevalueinmembershipforathletesofallagesandabilitylevelsandtoimprovethetransitionfromjuniortoseniorathletics.ThisphilosophywasendorsedbytheCommunityAthleticsCouncilandtheyhavecoordinatedthisdevelopment.

ALittleAthleticscentreandtheseniorcluboperatingasone,sharingthesametrainingground,uniformandcoachingexpertiseistheperfectmodel.Butnotonesizefitsall,particularlywithjuniorsportandthestrongrelianceonvolunteers,soJayneMitchellwasappointedasregionalclubsofficerin2011tocoordinatethisexercise.

JaynecompletedanauditoftheLittleAthleticscentresandseniorclubwithaviewtorecommendingwhichareastofocusonandsubsequentlythreeClubManagerswereappointedtoworkspecificallywithaselectedLittleAthleticsCentretodevelopthismodelwithaseniorclub.

ThebestsharingofresourcesandtransitionfromjuniortoseniorathleticsisthemainaimofthisprogramandmanagerswereappointedatNorthBeach(PaulEdmiston),CanningDistricts(WesSalisbury)andKingsway(AlanSavage)inanendeavourtosupportathlete,coachandvolunteerdevelopment.Eachmanagerworkedto

achievetheobjectivesoftheprogramwithintherespectiveneedsandparametersoftheirclubandtherewassolidprogressmadeacrossallthreeclubs.

WewillcontinuetopromotethisprogramwiththesupportofLittleAthleticsWAthroughtheCommunityAthleticsCouncil.

Thesecondyearofofferingthiscompetitiontotransitionage(14-17)athleteshasproventobeasuccess.Two/threeclubswereinvitedtocompeteinapointscoringcompetitionpriortotheStriveCompetition.AthletescompetedinthreeeventsandthewinningteamprogressedtotheGrandFinalwhichinvolvedatotaloffourclubs.Approximately230athletescompetedoverthefivecompetitionswithmanyofthemstayingonafterwardstocompeteintheseniorStrivecompetition.Thissuccessfulcompetitionwillcontinuenextseason.TheLACentresincludedHamersley,Baldivis,SouthernStars,Bayswater,Joondalup,Narrogin,Rockingham,Kingsway&Melville.

EachathletereceivedafreevouchertoreturntocompeteinaStrivecompetition,plusHealthwaydonatedsomedrinkbottlesandmerchandise.

Thewinning teamof each roundwas awarded a gift voucher donated bySportsSpecialist for theirCentreandtheGrandFinalwinnerswerepresentedwithaperpetualtrophyandreplicatotakehome.

Pathways for Athletes Thisseasonanathleteprogressionguidewasdevelopedtogiveaclearvisionofwhichpathwaysareavailableforeveryathlete.ThiswasproducedbytheLAWADevelopmentOfficerandtheClubsOfficer.IthasenabledathletestoseealongtermparticipationplanandthisdocumentwillbeincludedintheinformationgivenatthestartofeachseasontotransitionageLittleAthletes.

Increase in memberships ThegraphindicatestheincreasesintransitionageathletesparticipatinginStateAllSchools,andStateJuniorChampionshipsandthetrendforthefollowingseason.TheincreaseinnumbersoftransitionageathletescompetingatStriveCompetitionsthisseasonhasalsopeakedwith300athletesinU18andbelow.TheseeventswerepromotedbyAWAandLAWAtomaximizeparticipation.AllSchoolparticipantsweresentafreeentryvoucherintothestrivecompetition.Numbersweremonitoredand104voucherspresented.

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON

Cross Country Season 2013AthleticsWA’s(AWA)crosscountryseasonnowincorporatestheBankwestGallipoliFunRun,whichisheldbeforeAnzacdayeachyearinKingsPark.Thisisbecomingafeatureeventofthecommunityfunruncalendarandattractedapproximately2500competitorsthisyear.Thiseventisreportedseparatelywithintheannualreport.

AWA’sStateChampionshipeventsnowsolelycompromisesthewinterseasons.

TheStateShortCourseChampionshipopenedtheseasoninMayatPerryLakeswithstrongfieldsenteredinallagegroups.LindaSpencerwonthewomen’seventfollowedbyKateFitzsimonsandHannahCastle.Themen’seventwaswonbyChristopherDalefollowedbyStuartCaulfieldandYunusMohammed.

LindaandChristopherwereeligibletowinthe$250.00incentiveofferedtoanyseniorathletewhowonboththeLongandShortCourseevents.

ThenextmajoreventwastheStateMarathonChampionship,whichisconductedbytheWAMarathonClubonbehalfofAWA.Thewinnersand‘StateChampion’wereRobertoBusiandTinaMajor.BothTinaandRobertowereinvitedtoattendtheKobeMarathoninJapantorepresenttheState.Thiseventwhichattractsafieldofover80000isbeingheldinNovember2013.

FollowingtheMarathontheStateLongCoursewasconductedinJunealsoatPerryLakesandagainattractedverycompetitivefields.Themen’seventwaswonbyJoshuaTedescofromThomasBruinsandScottTamblin.JoshuacamefrombehindtowinfromThomasinthelast3kmlapandmakeamendsforhislapmisscountatthe2012race.LindaSpencerbecamethefirstpersontowinthecashincentiveprizebywinningthewomen’seventfromKateFitzsimonsandLaurenSpencer.

AttheState10kmroadchampionshipconductedbytheWAMCinJuly,KateFitzsimonsbrokeherrunofsecondplaceswithastrongwinfromMichelleRodgersandMathildaConnell.MarcSeewonthemen’sracefromJoshuaTedescoandPaulMcKayinaverycompetitivetime.

Thewinterseasonproducedsomeveryexcitingandcompetitiveracesandwaswellsupportedbyathletes.

Thededicatedcrosscountryofficialsagainensuredtheeventswereconductedinafriendlyandwelcomingenvironment.

ThesuccessfulpartnershipbetweentheWAMCandAWAcontinuestoworkharmoniouslytoprovidesuccessfulevents,whichhelpstopromotemiddleandlongdistancerunninginWA.TheeffortsoftheWAMarathonClubandtheirofficialsisgreatlyappreciatedandwelcomed.

TheongoingsupportoftheathletesandtheirsupportersfortheircommitmenttotheCrossCountryseasonis,asalways,acknowledgedandappreciated.

TheSundaybeforeAnzacDayisfirmlybecomingestablishedandknownastheBankwestGallipoliFunRuninKingsParktorecognisetheANZACspirit.Theeventhasgrownfromveryhumblebeginningstoamajoreventonthecommunityfunruncalendar.InpartnershipwithBankwestandAthleticsWA(AWA)theeventhasreceivedoverwhelmingpromotionwithcolourfulgraphicsappearingaroundeverycornerandbus.

PromotionfortheeventstartedinJanuary2013withimmediateresults.Competitorsstartedtoentertheeventmonthsoutfromtheraceday.Theearlysignsweretheracewasgoingtobebiggerandbetter than ever.

ThisyearBankwestadvertisedthefirst1000entriesweretoreceiveafreeraceteeshirtbutthiswasquicklyextendedtoeveryrunner.Entriescontinuedtogrowandclosertoracedayitwasapparenttheeventwasgoingtoexceedtheeventcapacity.Duetothepopulardemandoftheeventnoondayraceentrieswerepermitted.

Thisyearpre-racedaycollectionoftheracepackswasorganisedatBankwestinMurrayStreetPerthandtheofficeofAWA.Thispre-racedistributionworkedveryefficientlyandisworthyofconsiderationin2014.

Atthecloseofentriesapproximately2000entrieshadbeenreceived,whichincludedmanyfamilyentriesgroups.

Approachingracedayconflictingweatherreportsweretheonlymajorconcernbutfortunatelytheweatherremainedcoolwithnorain.Toaccommodatethemorecompetitiverunnersthe4and8kmraceswereseparatedenablingafasterandsafercompetition.At8.30amtheracepatron,MrJohnGilmour,startedthe4kmrunfor884runnersaftertheplayingofthe‘lastpost’.

ThefirstthroughtheBankwestarchandthewinnerofthemen’s4kmracewasChrisDalefollowedbyJonasArandaandChrisdeBoer.Thewinnerofwomen’s4kmracewasMathildaConnellfollowedbyTarinahNazaroffandHannahCastle.

At9.00amfollowingthe‘LastPost’ceremony990competitorsstartedthe8kmrace.

Thewomen’s8kmracewinnerwasAmyMcCormickwithTinaMajorsecondfollowedbyRochelleRogers.Themen’s8kmracewinnerwasRobertoBusiwithThomasBruinssecondfollowedbyAndrewGovus.ThiswasaveryexcitingracebutwaswonbystronganddeterminedrunningbyaveryexcitedandemotionalRobertoBusi.

Atotalof1874competitorsparticipatedinthe2013BankwestGallipoliFunRun.

Thewinnersofeachracereceivedagenerouscashprize.

TheeventwasconcludedwithpresentationsbyMrPaulVivian,(Bankwest)andJoshKennedy(WestCoastEaglesandBankwestAmbassador)inwelcomesunshine.

Alastingmemoryfromthe2013raceistheseaofBankwestorangemergingwiththegreenofKingsPark.The‘orange’Bankwestteeshirtaddeda‘blast’ofcolourtotheevent.

Regardlessofthesuccessofthe‘raceday’moreimportantlywerethefundsraisedonbehalfoftheracebeneficiaries,RSL,LegacyandAWA,whichhasbeengenerouslymatchedandincreasedbyBankwest.Bankwestgenerouslymatchedtheregistrationfeeforthefirst1000entriesfortheracebeneficiaries.

ThankstotheeagernessandsupportofBankwest,BotanicalGardensandParkAuthorityandallthelongservingvolunteerstheBankwestGallipoliFunRuncontinuestogrowexponentially.The2013eventwasagreatsuccessandallbearswellfor2014.
