RENO, NV - What was once a sanctuary for one of Nevada’s most prominent casino owners, his family and friends, willsoon be open to the public. Rancharrah in southwest Reno is starting out small, beginning with a horse boarding andriding facility.
For years, Rancharrah has been known as a premiere breeding facility for cutting horses.
Owner John Harrah allowed a small group of friends to board their horses, as well.
Now, he’s opening the facility for western riders who want to socialize and ride with like-minded people.
For years, quarter horses at Rancharrah have been treated like royalty... premiere cutting horses, they stayed and trainedin this beautiful facility not far from interstates and shopping centers---but secluded enough to feel as if you are out in thecountry.
Debbie Day and her horse Cooper came here 10 years ago, at the invitation of John Harrah, the owner.
She couldn't believe her luck.
“I knew of the place and what was on my mind was being able to ride and work my cutting horses in Reno on a regularbasis, 5 to 6 days a week. And so I'm very grateful for John for letting me come in,” says Day.
The 150 acres of gated property is most likely the envy of any land developer. But the son of Bill Harrah says he washaving second thoughts about selling it.
Instead, he decided to invite the locals, so they could treasure it as much as he has.
He's beginning by opening his horse-boarding facility with prices starting at 300 dollars a month.
Emphasis here will be placed on western disciplines--including cutting cattle--Harrah's own specialty.
There are acres of trails and 24-hour security, and of course there is a knowlegeable staff that has worked here developinga horse breeding and training facility that is like no other in the area.
“Yea and this is pretty priceless, this property is a piece of Nevada history,” says John Harrah.
The mansion and surrounding buildings and open spaces will be open for benefits, fundraisers, weddings and otherspecial occasions.
That will be happening in the next couple of months.
Mystery dinners are also planned.

Rancharrah, the spread entered from Talbot Lane
and established by the late gaming grandee William
F. Harrah, seems at once a part of the city and apart
from it, its 147 acres both neighbor to a thriving
commercial corridor and gateway to the posh, horsey
precincts of southwest Reno.
Now, Rancharrah wants to draw on this country-
in-the-city character as it seeks to amend its zoning
to eliminate residential subdivisions approved in 1995
and to add commercial, medical office, special
events and equestrian uses.
The changes, which have drawn opposition
from some neighbors, would allot about a
fifth of the property for commercial
development, while also allowing an events
center, multi-use terrace, equestrian facility
and boutique lodging. John Harrah, son of
William F. Harrah, and his wife, Holly, said
they hoped the amenities would attract
locals and visitors.
The goal, they said, is to help pay for what
they estimated was the ranch's $1.5 million
cost for basic annual upkeep.
"That has to figure into our plans
eventually," John Harrah, 45, said of the

RANCHARRH LAND-USEPROPOSALS
Middlefork Limited Partnership, doing business as
Rancharrah, is seeking to amend the government-
approved uses to which ranch land might be put.
Rancharrah wants to eliminate current zoning that
allows for up 156 single-family homes on some of its
147 acres and wants to add zoning that would allow for
business, medical office, special event and equestrian
uses.
Rancharrah must receive approvals from various
government authorities. The
city of Reno Planning Commission is scheduled to hold
a meeting April 6.
The proposed changes are set forth in the Rancharrah
Planned Unit Development Handbook Amendment, a
document in the public record. As is standard in
land-use planning, property zoning designations in the
PUD contemplate multiple allowed uses that might or
