Carpet Tile By the Numbers

Page 2: 2011 InterfaceFLOR Higher Education Catalog

And to demonstrate how easy that can be, we’re proud to introduce our latest catalog. In it we’ll show you, by the numbers, all the ways our products can help you inspire green-minded graduates while saving money and minimizing installation hassles along the way.InterfaceFLOR products are:

Easy on the environment.Simply put, InterfaceFLOR products and programs set the industry standard for environmentally responsible flooring. Our products install with zero glue, are third-party verified climate neutral and have up to 29% post-consumer recycled content. Plus, our ReEntry® 2.0 reclamation and recycling program has kept more than 220 million pounds of carpet out of landfills. This all helps build the greener campuses of the future.

Easy on budgets. Our carpet tiles install with as little as 1.5% waste, so your investment goes on the floor, not in the landfill. In a 100,000 square foot building that can add up to more than $27,000 in savings. You’ll save further on maintenance costs because tiles can be replaced quickly and easily – no need for costly outside contractors. And, our entire line of standard products is available through E&I, giving you access to leveraged pricing without the bid hassle.

Easy on staff.A quick figure that will catch the attention of maintenance staffs and facilities managers: With our TacTiles® installation system, there’s no need for 42 lb. glue buckets. In addition to a glue-free installation system, our carpet tiles are spill and stain-resistant and can be replaced individually – no complicated cutting or moving heavy furniture.

As a higher education professional, you make decisions about your university that can shape the minds of the future. With our products, the next time a prospective student asks about your university’s sustainability mission, you can begin your answer by pointing to the floor.

At InterfaceFLOR, we believe the most powerful lesson you can teach about sustainability is to live it.

DESIGN TIP Take i2 flexibility even further by creating

a Kaleidoscope. Just choose four colors from any of our i2 styles, like Entropy shown here,

to create an installation that is always unique.

Our i2 styles are so easy to install and maintain, you’ll want to roll the broadloom up and out the door immediately. Dye lots always merge, and many i2 styles install non directionally, which means tiles can be laid in any direction, in any order — quickly, easily and with less cost, waste and overall hassle.

Plus:•i2stylesinstallwithas

little as 1.5% waste compared to an average 14% broadloom waste so your investment stays in your facility, not the landfill.

•Tilesfrommultipledyelots always blend together, allowing for phased

renovations and preventing the “sore thumb” effect. Order just what you need, when you need it, to save money and storage space.

•Aswithallofourcarpettile, there’s no seam matching, welding of seams or stretching, and our products don’t buckle or ripple.

Less hassle. Greater savings.

Keep your campus’s carpet from joining the 500 million pounds in landfills each year. Since 1994, InterfaceFLOR’s revolutionary reclamation and recycling program, ReEntry® 2.0, has kept more than 220 million pounds of carpet from landfills. With ReEntry 2.0, we can reclaim nearly any carpet type and enable your campus recycling efforts to grow.

We are able to cleanly separate the nylon face fiber from the backing and recycle it into new nylon for use by us and other industries. Separated GlasBac® and similar backings also are recycled.

The result? Convert™ carpet tile with as much as 70% total recycled content, including up to 29% post-consumer content.

Colorfast carpet that stands up to the sun. Many colleges and universities today are literally lightening up, with more windows and design that maximizes natural light. Unlike products made with yarn dyed nylon, InterfaceFLOR carpet tile is made with 100% solution dyed nylon that will stand up to sunlight without fading. Plus, it’s resistant to most bleaches and other staining liquids that would typically ruin conventional carpet.

Why throw over $27,000 into the landfill?Consider a 100,000 square foot building installed with broadloom that generates an average 14% installation waste. At $20 per square yard for carpet, that’s $31,111 – tossed right into the trash.

With i2 non directional tiles, waste is as low as 1.5%, which could result in a savings of $27,778 for this building, keeping more budget dollars in your university and thousands of pounds of carpet waste out of the landfill. And that’s a winning formula for everyone.

At InterfaceFLOR, we use Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the impact of our products from raw material extraction to end- of -life recycling. This valuable tool evaluates the full life cycle by looking at all kinds of environmental impacts, from global warming to acid rain.

We’ve taken our LCAs a step further: They’re the foundation of our Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, for our Convert products. We became the first North American carpet manufacturer to earn this verification, which requires unprecedented levels of transparency and disclosure. And we’re not stopping there: By 2012, we aim to have an EPD for all InterfaceFLOR products globally.

Here’s a real life example comparing traditional glue adhesive to our TacTiles glue-free installation system.

A buzzword among many campus facilities managers and architects these days is design flexibility: that is, creating interiors that help define specific spaces without limiting their potential. With InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles, the possibilities are infinite. Create a snazzy common area that invites social interaction with eye-catching patterns or go for streamlined sophistication with monochromatic colors. For projects of any size or scope, InterfaceFLOR is a triple hit of functionality, flexibility and fun for your campus.

Lighten your footprint with climate neutral products.Today’s colleges and universities are taking a strong stand against climate change. To date, nearly 700 members have joined the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, pledging to take action on reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) on their campuses.

InterfaceFLOR shares this vision. In addition to reducing GHGs in our operations, our third-party verified climate neutral Cool Carpet™ zeros out all GHG emissions associated with the entire life cycle of the carpet. Plus, Cool Carpet comes standard on all InterfaceFLOR products sold in North America, making it an easy, affordable step campuses can take.

For every 100 square yards of InterfaceFLOR carpet tile installed, 2,953 pounds of GHGs have been offset. How many can your campus zero out?

Installing carpet designed specifically for entryways 5 steps in from each entrance will simplify maintenance and add years to the rest of your floorcovering. The stiff fibers found in InterfaceFLOR’s Entry Level™, Flor® and Super Flor™ styles grab dirt, moisture and debris that can stick to shoes, trapping it until it can be vacuumed up later. So interiors stay fresher, and your carpet lasts longer.

Entryway carpet is like insurance for your floor.

The future of carpet tile installation is clear – just look above.

TacTiles, InterfaceFLOR’s revolutionary installation system, provide all the comforts of carpet without the installation hassle. They require no glue, create no mess, and generate virtually no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or related odors. Plus, TacTiles are a “reclamation enabler”; that is, unlike glue, they allow us to easily reclaim used carpet for recycling.

•Faster,cleanerinstallationwithless prep and fewer disruptions

•Nosticky,wetadhesive or heavy glue buckets

•Noharshgluefumes

•Over90%lowerenvironmentalfootprint than with traditional glue adhesives

So get unstuck, give glue the boot and grab a TacTiles Connector today. Your maintenance staffs, not to mention Mother Nature, will thank you.

DiD You KNow? One roll of TacTiles connectors (2 lbs) installs the same amount of carpet as a 42 lb bucket of glue.
