Some thoughts on the Holy Eucharist on Divine Mercy Sun-day…
On this Divine Mercy Sunday we have in this first reading a reflec-tion on the first Christian Community. It really represents the ideal Parish. Look at how they lived:
They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life,
to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.
They learned the faith. Next year I am going to have a weekly teaching on the faith on Tuesday nights, and we will go through most of the Catechism of the Catholic Church throughout nine months. It will basically be an "RCIA class" for the entire parish. Also, as I mentioned on Easter Sunday I have paid for all of you to have free access to "Formed". You can access the best Catholic speakers and talks online for you and your family at: https://www.augustineinstitute.org/formed/. It goes on to say in the text that they had "communal life". I think as a parish we have been doing more community events, and hope that we do more this upcoming Church year. As of now we are beginning to prepare for our annual Sacred Heart Picnic. If anyone can or would like to help with plan-ning this year's Picnic/Softball game, please email me at [email protected].
Finally, the first Catholics found strength in the "breaking of the bread". A little farther down in this same text it says that the first Catholics: "Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in
their homes." What this means is that they daily went to Mass.
One of the greatest gifts we have as Catholics is daily Mass. There is nothing greater you can do or anything you can attend that will have more spiritual benefit to your soul than daily Mass. On the Divine Mercy image we see white and red coming out of the heart of Jesus. The white represents the waters of baptism, and the red represents the Holy Eucharist.
St. Faustina in her diary has a few quotes that are very powerful about the effect of daily communion in her own life. She says:
All the good that is in me is due to Holy Communion. ... Herein lies
the whole secret of my sanctity. ... One thing alone sustains me, and
that is Holy Communion. From it I draw all my strength; in it is all
my comfort. ... Jesus concealed in the Host is everything to me. ... I
would not know how to give glory to God if I did not have the Eu-
charist in my heart. ... O living Host, my one and only strength,
fountain of love and mercy, embrace the whole world, and fortify
faint souls. O blessed be the instant and the moment when Jesus left
us His most merciful Heart! (Diary, 1392, 1489, 1037, and 223)
Jesus says elsewhere in St. Faustina's Diary:
Oh, how painful it is to Me that souls so seldom unite themselves
to Me in Holy Communion. I wait for souls, and they are indiffer-
ent toward Me. I love them tenderly and sincerely, and they dis-
trust Me. I want to lavish My graces on them, and they do
not want to accept them. They treat Me as a dead object,
whereas My Heart is full of love and mercy (Diary, 1447).
Ask yourself on Divine Mercy Sunday…Could I go to Mass at least one time other than Sunday during the week…could I go every day like the first Christians? We have Mass on Wednesday nights at 7 pm…Think about how that midweek encounter with Jesus will get you through the rest of the
week… In Christ, Fr. Larry
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE HAPPY REPOSE OF THE
SOULS OF Peggy Posey Stone and Dee Murphy
