It will be followed by a shorttrunk show. Our meeting location is Holy TrinityLutheran Church in Ankeny.

"Autumn Oaks Trio" is the workshop Mickey will be

doing with us on February 11th. Students create theirown version of a wall-hanging with background/wavy

Reminder from Linda Northwick, program chair

Just thought I would send a reminder to all guild members. This year we have a great selection of speakers coming tovisit and the majority of our national speakers will conduct1 or 2 classes. If you, as a guild, wish to continue to attractbig name speakers then we need to also support the classes

that they offer. In order to break even for the classes weneed to sign up about 20 people to take those classes. Wecannot afford to have national speakers unless we arewilling to support the classes they offer. For those that areunaware, most classes from national speakers cost $700 to$750 per class. Please support the classes we are fortunateenough to offer this year.

We have Carol Doak coming in April. Be sure to sign up

for her workshops--Perfect Points and Sunrise

MarinersCompass. The cost for each workshop is $40for guild members.

We have Harriet Hargrave coming in June. She will have

two workshops---these will be held at the Ankeny BaptistChurch---on June 9th & 10th. Our guild meeting on June9

th will be held at Ankeny Baptist Church also.

    PRESIDENTS LETTER

This will be a short letter, as some of you know I havebeen sick since Thanksgiving, bronchitis, sinusinfection, and now ear infection. It is all I can do to goto work and come home, well maybe not all, I wentshopping with friends to Prairie Rose Quilts and TheQuilt Connection last weekend, fun, fun, fun.

Hopefully when I go to see an ENT doctor on Mondaythis will all finally come to an end.

The garage sale went well, at first count I think wehave made over $250 that is excellent, and theparticipants also made a little money.

Make sure you support the classes we offer with ourspeakers!!!!! That is a money maker or money loserdepending on if we support them.

OurJune meeting will be the second Tuesday of themonth but at a different location. Our meeting will beat Ankeny Baptist Church (my church) so letanyone you know that Harriet Hargrave will bespeaking there.

Keep warm, my sewing room is the warmest room inmy house, good idea to hang out there huh.

Your roving reporters have been out, nose to thegrindstone searching out shops to review. Its a toughjob, but somebody has to do it, right?!?

Celeste reports---it was a cold and snowy January daywhen Susan and I visited Fern Hill in South Amana,Iowa. I always love going to this shop! This shop issuch a treasure trove! The owner and staff are sowelcoming and friendly-we felt very much at home.

Fern Hill's owner, Patty Walsh Bailey spent lots oftime with us and gave us great attention.

Patty Walsh Bailey with Stephanie Brandenburg's floral fabrics

Fern Hill has been in business for 23 years, 20 at thislocation. In 2000 they had a fire, and I was afraid

wed lose this shop forever. I asked Patty about that, and she said they were going to close and had so manyrequests to re-open that they did! Thank goodness!

Downstairs are gifts and home decorations. Theyhave lovely antiques and architectural antiques (likeurns or stained glass windows) for sale. You can buyantique quilts, finished quilts, or design a custom-made quilt! I did this years ago. Fern Hill contractswith Amish women to make quilts. They handquilted the quilt and long curtains for the Frenchdoors in my bedroom! Plus, I got to keep the left-over fabric for my own stash!

Another feature downstairs is a little sweets shop &the most delicious fudge!! You cant really dosignificant quilting without chocolate, can you?

Upstairs you'll find the quilting fabric. I love their bigselection of florals. Patty said she loves florals aswell, and uses the palette throughout the shop. Itmakes for a beautiful, colorful place to be!

They have an in-house fabric designer, Stephanie

Brandenburg. I had to buy some of her beautifulfabric immediately. Camelot is the company thatproduces it for them. On the selvage is reads FernHill Collection. How cool is that!?! Stephanie hasdone 3 collections Iris,Dandelion Days, andHollyhock Dolls & Garden Garments. Her new fabriclines to watch for areIron Lace in May andBluebirds

    next summer.

    Some of Stephanie Brandenburg's fabrics.

My eyes weren't able to wander too far from theflorals but if thats not your style, Fern Hill carriesmany other fabric lines and styles.

Visit Fern Hill's website, www.fernhill.net to checkshop hours and get driving directions. Fern Hill'saddress is: 103 220 Trail, South Amana, IA andphone is: 319.622.3627.

As we left, they told us to bring our quilting friendsand theyd throw on the coffee pot and some pies andwed have a great time! I could go for that! Anyadventurers ready to go with me?
