Creating and Using Digital Booktalks in Your Library. Kit Parker

The use and creation of digital booktalks, or book trailers will be shared. Student and librarian created book trailers will be viewed. Technical advice and software recommendations to create your own. Use in various formats to promote your library and its books.

Setting the Scene: Adult “Themed” Mystery Book Groups. Laura Olson

How do you like your Mystery? Cozy, Romantic, Hard Boiled or with Vampires? Imagine a book discussion with other mystery fans who like it just the opposite! Learn how to have a fun and lively book discussion at your own library when members have entirely different tastes.

Website Usability Made Easy Ellie Dworak

The goal of this presentation is to help you improve your library website through audience testing, accessibility testing, and other methodologies. You will leave with a basic understanding of website usability and accessibility, understand several simple ways to discover and remedy problems, and learn about other resources to expand your knowledge.

Starting From Scratch: Lessons Learned Jim Pace

Since the end of August Jim has had the opportunity to start a small college library from scratch, literally from bare walls. Jim will briefly review his experiences, outline issues along the way, and get a discussion going on how one might, with hindsight and with the collected wisdom of the audience, approach the challenge of creating a library.

Our presentation is based on the PLA 2008 workshop by Johnson County Library with their permission to share. Learn 18 tools for more effective communication when working with a difficult patron. We will be encouraging audience participation and sharing of ideas – what works, what doesn’t!
