Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings from the desk of the Vice ChancellorToday happens to be the "Dhanwanthari Jayanthi and National Ayurveda Day". On this occasion I pray Lord Dhanwanthari to bestow his blessings on everybody and to grant Sukhaayu and Deerghaayu.
Ayurveda recognized as the earliest System of health care known to the mankind since time immemorial is providing the light and paths for health, happiness, longevity and harmony through its natural phenomenon’s and principals. Ayurveda has the concepts and principals of all the available Systems of health care including Yoga and hence it is meaning fully termed as Ayurveda which means "The Science of Life".
Today Ayurveda is recognized globally as it stands for prevention of diseases, promotion of health and positive health, radical cure of diseases and caring for longevity of quality life through lifestyle modifications in Aahaara - food, Vihara - Practices & habits and Vichara - Thoughts. Ayurveda makes use of safe Herbo-minerals & organic products as medicines and very effective therapeutic palliative and curative panchakarma therapies (Detoxing, relaxing and rejuvenate procedures), Psychological councling and Spiritual discourses and religious ceremonies & practices.
The achievement and services of modern system of medical science is commendable, adorable and worth honoring, but with all this it has limitations too. Today the community across globe is looking for the best services from all the available Systems of health care.
Ayurveda with Yoga and other AYUSH systems provide solutions to the most of the Non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Anxiety disorders, Degenerative disorders, Depression, Sleep disorders, Hormonal imbalances and many stress related issues for which no effective and safe solutions are available with the modern medical system. Integrating the best of all the health care systems for the wellbeing of the mankind is need of the hour. In this direction integrative research with evidence based results and integrative teaching through educational Institutions through Government and Private participation are the need of the hour.
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous Dhanwanthari Jayanthi and National Ayurveda Day.

But where only the getting rid (of the good and evil) is mentioned (the obtaining of this good and evil by others has to be added) because the statement about acceptance is supplementary (to the statement about the getting rid of) as in the case of the Kusas, metres, praise and hymns or recitations. This (i.e., the reason for this) has been stated (by Jaimini in Purvamimamsa).
In this Adhikarana, the focus of discussion is to understand the process of giving and receiving the Karma Phala (result of an action) from a person departing the mortal body. Some Upanishad statements claim that ‘’the Vidvan (person with wisdom) unshackles Punya and Papa to reach the pinnacle of existential truth’’. On the other hand, ‘’the relatives of the Vidvan receive Punya, enemies receive Papa’’, states the other branch. In some other occasion it is said as just discarding the both (Punya and Papa) the person travels further.
The question here is whether to combine the process of discarding and assigning of karmaphala should be understood from the other sources or not, for not mentioning in the section as a complete process of discarding
and receiving of Karma. Badarayana Vyasa presents the comprehensive idea in the light of Jaimini’s Purva meemamsa.
Kusas, metres, praise and hymns or recitations are the examples to follow the principle of completing the uncompleted sentences from other sections of the Upanishads or Shaastras. In this context it’s regarding karma phala, foes and friends or relatives would receive Punya and Papa.
When it comes to the matter of Punya and Papa, the human beings have special considerations. Contemporary applications of these ideas can also be observed in these days, we see the examples of wealthy while sharing wealth with others. Some share money which is earned legally, accounted properly and in proper channel is appreciated in our tradition. On the other hand we also see the crooks offering money which are illegally accumulated in an improper manner leading to disastrous situations.
Having comprehensive picture with the matter of Punya - Papa distribution we have to follow the guidelines of Jaimini.

We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.

Egoless Involuntary ActivityKarma is binding. Karma Yoga is liberating. Karma is action. Activities are bondage. Activities performed without ego and with efficiency for the benefit of all are Karma Yoga.
Activities are both voluntary and involuntary. Voluntary activities are a bondage. Involuntary activities are liberating. Heart-beat, pulsation and breathing are involuntary activities. They are performed without any conscious effort. All other activities such as reading, writing, sitting, standing, etc. are voluntary activities. They are of bondage.
Involuntary activities are impulsive, instinctive and intuitive. Impulsive activities may be right or wrong, good or bad, useful or useless, helpful or harmful. Though they are performed involuntarily, they are not capable of liberating. Animals and plants have impulsive activities. Human beings also are very often impulsive in their expressions and actions. They are not liberating. They are not Karma Yoga. A person while sleeping may impulsively pull back the
foot if it is pricked. This activity is an impulsive activity.
Involuntary activities may be instinctive as well. Animals indulge in instinctive activities. Human beings also are very often instinctive in their actions. If somebody scolds people may react instinctively. This action is not Karma Yoga. It is an action of binding nature. If a person sees a beautiful object he / she may react instinctively. The reactions or the results may have to be experienced. They are indeed binding.
At the intuitive level also there are involuntary activities. These activities are a sign of Karma Yoga. They are never a bondage. Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa have performed egoless, intuitive activities of ethical excellence and efficiency. These activities
are liberating.
Only then the activities are consciously performed with diligence, moral uprightness and ethical excellence without any sign of egoism, then they become after sometime involuntary activities. For example, driving is an activity. After a long practice of it the driver gets proficiency, efficiency and excellence. Involuntary skill is the result. The driving then will be smooth, skillful, steady, harmless, safe and involuntary. Similarly, every activity if performed righteously, over a period of time will become
g Dr. K SubrahmanyamAdvisor to Chancellor
S-VYASA
Yoga Sudha12

involuntary. Such involuntary activities are Karma Yoga.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa says “If a person speaks truth diligently for 12 years, what he speaks will come true”. The first part of practice is voluntary, righteous and ethical. Therefore, the second part is involuntary and ethical. These involuntary activities of excellence are a sign of Karma Yoga.
Yudhishthir after the Mahabharata war says that he does not want to wear the crown because he is responsible for the bloodshed. Bhishma then tells him that nobody is really a doer. Everybody is only an instrument. The instrument performs
actions involuntarily. It has no intentions, good or bad. Therefore, it is never bound. Similarly, if we can rise to the level of an instrument in the hands of the almighty to perform the actions involuntarily as directed by God, we will become Karma Yogis.
All activities performed without ego, without expectation of a fruit, without attachment to anything or anybody, with utmost sincerity, with moral uprightness, with ethical excellence and with intuitive involuntary approach, then one becomes a Karma Yogi. Such people are never bound. They are ever free. Sri Krishna is a Yogishwara of highest Yogic excellence.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters,In modern times, management of noncommunicable diseases has become an enormous challenge to the medical fraternity worldwide. It is increasingly being recognized that non-communicable diseases are multifactorial problems and therefore the solutions to these have to be multi-faceted. Evidence based approach is of utmost importance to provide the best possible care for the patients.
Equally important is to develop cost-effective treatments. Modern Medicine, Yoga and other AYUSH systems of medicine approach patient care in their own unique ways. Each system has got its own advantages. Hence it is necessary to explore how these systems of medicine can complement each other in order to provide best solutions for the management of non-communicable diseases.
Hence, we have selected a theme “Yoga as Lifestyle Medicine” for 23rd INCOFYRA. This will make an effort to integrate Indian medicine and Modern Medicine with Yoga as basis for integrative medicine by bringing prominent researchers and doctors from all these fields under on one platform. The focus of 23rd INCOFYRA will be on reversal of Diabetes and Heart disease with Yoga as lifestyle intervention.
We welcome you all to our Prashanti Kutiram campus.
