I. INTRODUCTION

David as their new King.

II. 2SAMUEL 5:1-5

A. David’s reign – 7 years in Judah and 33 years of Israel!

III. 2SAMUEL 5:6-10

A. No one sure exactly what they mean!

1. What we do know:a) Jebusites “certain” David could not get behind their walls!b) “Blind and the lame” a

taunt against David.

(1) You will be defeated by the “lame and blind”!

(a) No one knows for sure…

2. A treacherous way into the city.

a) “water shaft” = “gutter” = “waterspout”.

(1) Honeycombed with tunnels.

(2) Some impossible for a person to get through

(3) This might have been one such tunnel.

(a) David offered position of Captain”.

(i) Joab’s spot until he killed Abner!

3. David went on to become great!

a) Few equipped to handle such power!

IV. 2SAMUEL 5:11-16

A. Verse 13

1. Had become socially acceptable.

a) Deuteronomy 17:14-20

b) Verse 20 (1) One of the greatest

struggles Christians f ace today!

(2) Re-defining the Bible to fit our lifestyle!

(a) I want to play something.

(3) Not a new tactic. satan using it.

(a) She got Adam to agree with her!

(4) God didn’t mean to NOT commit

adultery.(5) Didn’t mean to not

be unequally yoked with an unbeliever!

(6) Didn’t mean to not get drunk!

(7) Writer of Hebrews didn’t mean we should

go to church.(8) Paul didn’t mean to

not be conformed to this world!

(a) Surround with people that will

support our compromises!

(i) Romans 1:21-22

(a) Change God into what they wanted Him to be!

2. What the Lord is trying to prevent from happening in David’s life!

a) David’s lust is going to get the best of him.

V. CONCLUSION

A. 2Samuel 5:17-25

1. “A man after God’s own heart” can make a mistake. 2. He can redefine God’s word. 3. He can readjust his life because the world.

a) Doesn’t make it right!b) MUST BE God’s word!
