19 6 6 C O L L E C T I O N ® TA B L E S Designed by Richard Schultz for Florence Knoll’s home in Florida, the 1966 collection

(originally called the Leisure Collection), was the first outdoor furniture collection that enthusiasts of modern design could

describe as “a breath of fresh air.” The clean lines, scale, and proportions were all carefully considered to stay relevant with

changing design aesthetics. Engineered to incorporate the best modern materials for durability, the collection’s elegance and

silhouette were not compromised, maintaining a strong architectural presence in any outdoor environment. It has been chosen

to be included in various museums world-wide, including the Permanent Design Collection at the Museum of Modern Art,

New York (MoMA).

R I C H A R D S C H U LT Z Trained as a Mechanical Engineer at Iowa State and later at the Institute of Design in Chicago,

the innovative and esteemed outdoor furniture designer, Richard Schultz, joined the Knoll Planning Unit in 1951. Shortly

thereafter he was sent to Pennsylvania, and began working closely with Harry Bertoia on a whole wire furniture collection.

In 1960, the Petal table was introduced to accompany the Bertoia chairs and immediately became a part of the MoMA

Design collection. Richard went on to create many designs while at Knoll, including the Leisure Collection (currently the

1966 Collection), which has won the International Design Award and has since been included in the permanent collections

of many international museums.
