Our Blessed Virgin Mary is the Moth-er of God and of us ALL .

Please take time throughout the month of May to honor Mary and to pray to the Queen of Peace for peace in our community and the

world. The world is full of goodness and evil. The only way we can stop evil is by

doing good and acting lovingly to all God’s children.

Memorare REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this

confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand,

sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear

and answer me. Amen.

antes bien, escuchadlas y acogedlas benignamente.

Each one of you has to be God’s microphone. Each one of you has to be a mes-senger, a prophet. The church will always exist as long as there is someone who

has been baptized…Where is your baptism? You are baptized in your profes-sions, in the fields of workers, in the market. Wherever there is someone who has

been baptized, that is where the church is. There is a prophet there. Let us not hide the talent that God gave us on the day of our baptism and let us truly live

the beauty and responsibility of being a prophetic people.

This is what we are about: We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already plant-

ed, knowing that they hold future promise.

Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the silent result of violent repression.

Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all. Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is right and it is duty.

In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Peter tells everyone assembled that the Scriptures foretold of Judas’s betrayal of Jesus. He continues to tell them the importance of replacing Judas with some-one who was a follower of Jesus Christ but not of the original twelve. After deliberation and prayer, Matthias was chosen as an Apostle. This was all done after Jesus ascended to heaven. The Second Reading continues last week’s theme of love. “God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.” Towards the end of the movie/show Les Miserables, we hear the words “To love another person is to see the face of God.” We cannot love unless we have the love of God in our own hearts and minds. God’s love for us is unconditional and everlasting, although he does not always like what we do or say. Both the Gospel Acclamation and Gospel talk about the fact that we are never alone. We will never be orphans because we have God (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) to guide and protect us. Jesus asks his Father to “consecrate them in the truth.” The truth is based on “the Book” which is the Old and New Testament of the Bible. These stories are proclaimed to us and we are offered explanations of what the stories mean and how we can apply them to today’s world. We also can deepen our own faith by reading stories of people who lived their faith. On May 23, Archbishop Oscar Romero will be Beatified. As the Archbishop of El Salvador , he was assassinated in 1980 . This brings this modern day martyr one step closer to Sainthood. Archbishop Romero believed that we are all called to help each other in attaining peace with God and with our neighbor, both known and unknown. He was an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ spreading the “truth” of the Gospel and offering love and compassion to all people. He lived and died for our faith. So we ask ourselves: • Do we consider the Bible one of our favorite books? • Do we look for the face of God in every person we see and love that person even though

we may not like what they do? • Do we look to God as our Father and protector?

Words of inspiration from Archbishop Oscar Romero

STEWARDSHIP: Jesus is the perfect steward—watching carefully over all who have been entrusted to Him by the Father and then sending them all out into the world in service. May I similarly protect and wisely use the gifts entrusted to me!
