  • May 17, 2015 - Ascension of the Lord To the Ends of the Earth

Acts 1 Jesus earthly ministry ends with his ascension. Psalm 47 God mounts his throne to shouts of joy. Eph 1 Pauls extended prayer for the Ephesians. Mark 16 Go and proclaim the Gospel.

If you listened carefully to the words of todays Gospel, you heard Jesus say, These signs will accompany those who be-lieve: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands. Some religious groups take this literally.

Jesus left his disciples on that hilltop near Betha-ny with the assurance that he would give them the power they needed to fulfill their mission. Scripture tells us that the disciples went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs. Whatever risks we face or problems we have to handle as disciples, Jesus promises that he will al-ways be with us. -- Dc. Dick Folger Next Weeks Readings Acts 2 The disciples are filled with the Holy Spirit. Psalm 104 Lord, send out your spirit and renew the face of the earth. 1 Cor 12 There are many gifts in the one body of Christ. John 20 Jesus appears to the disciples, bestowing peace and the Holy Spirit.

seat as soon as the music begins. Audience mem-bers will laugh, cry and be inspired in this unforget-table experience featuring toe-tapping song favour-ites. Concert tickets are available at the door of Bethany Community Church or online at www.eventbrite.com

Charter Installation Ceremony Announcing the New Council in

the St. Catharines Diocese Saturday June 20, 2015, St. Mark School Gym,

Mountain St. Beamsville St. Helen of the Cross Council 15999 will be host-ing a dinner followed by the charter presentation of the newly formed council and its officers. We welcome everyone to celebrate mass with us at St. Helen Church at 5 p.m. All wives, parishion-ers and KofC councils are encouraged to attend this once in a lifetime event for St. Helens parish. Doors at the school Open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. $25 per person. For tickets con-tact Martin Marko 905-401-5646 or email [email protected]

Lottery Proceeds To date, the Lottery Committee has forwarded $15,000 to St. Helens. We are grateful to every-one who has worked so hard to make this a suc-cessful Lottery year and for all who participated by purchasing a ticket! Good luck on the remaining draws.

Pledges & Donations - Did you know? If you are planning to make a charitable donation to the building fund, consider this tax-saving strategy. If youve already determined that you will be selling some of your current investments, you have an op-portunity to reduce the tax you would otherwise have to pay on the sale of your investments if you donate the investments directly to a charity. Alt-hough a donation of property is considered a dispo-sition for tax purposes, as a result of these tax in-centives the taxable capital gain realized on a do-nated publicly-traded security is eliminated. In ei-ther case, you will receive a tax receipt for the full amount of your donation regardless of the tax treatment of the capital gain.
