If you work or volunteer in the parish or are in a parish ministry YOU ARE REQUIRED to fill out a CORI form each year. Please be sure you have a valid driver’s license or another form of identification with you when you come to fill out the form. Forms may be filled out at home, but need to be verified in person.

"The St. Lucy's Men's Guild” would like to thank all parishioners who attended our Sock Hop that was held to support our Youth Group. Special mention of St. Monica's Knights of Columbus for their donation.

Mass Schedule Change After Labor Day the 11;00am Saint Lucy Mass on Sunday will change to 11:30am. This change is necessary due to the new religious formation program for youth that will begin this fall. This will allow more time for catechesis in the morning and will allow us to offer two sessions instead of one. I know change is always challenging and hope that we can all be flexible as we make every effort to get young families to join us at mass.

FROM FR. JOHN

This past week, on June 29, the Church celebrated the very important feast of Saints Peter and Paul. We are all generally aware of the importance of Saint Peter, given the special relationship Jesus had with Peter, and the foundational ministry the Lord laid upon him and his successors. We are also generally aware of the importance of Saint Paul, given the prominence of his writings in the New Testament, which contain the seeds of all of the teachings of our faith, as well as his extensive missionary activities. Both of these men also confessed their faith in Christ by the spilling of their blood. Both Saint Peter and Saint Paul show us what it is to live the Christian vocation, albeit in different ways. Jesus called Saint Peter to be a disciple early in His ministry. Peter's younger brother Andrew had seen the Lord and wanted his brother to know him as well. We will recall that it was Peter, out of all the twelve, who responded to Jesus' question, "Who do men say that I am?" Peter was unique among the first disciples of Jesus, not because he possessed immense earthly intelligence or talent, but because he possessed great courage, even if it was imperfect. Beyond this, Peter knew that he was a sinner who was completely dependent on the grace of Jesus. Who of us could sin as grievously as Peter did on Holy Thursday night, and then repent as enthusiastically as he did by the Sea of Tiberius without his example. We owe him so much, and much more could be said. I just plead for all of us to pray for Peter's successor, Pope Francis, and for the unity of the Church. Saint Paul's case is a bit different. He did not know Jesus during his earthly life. He was a learned Pharisee who sought to destroy the nascent Church. However, Jesus used Paul's love of God's Holy Word to touch him profoundly. He struck him blind so that Paul could see in the Scriptures that he loved so much, that Jesus is the Savior foretold from of old. We have been so blessed by the pen of Saint Paul, that was so inspired by Almighty God. We also have access, through Baptism, to the very same grace that brought Paul to know Jesus. May his intercession draw us closer to Christ, by loving His Word all the more. Fr. Cassani
