! 100% Design announces Workplace installation by international architecture practice NBBJ (17-20 September 2014)

As the biggest design event in the UK, 100% Design will return to Earls Court London this September (17-20), celebrating its 20th edition. The show has announced a range of leading names exhibiting in 100% Workplace, including a specially commissioned installation – entitled iAlter (right) – by international architecture and design practice NBBJ. 100% Design is the only event during this year’s London Design Festival that has a section dedicated to design innovation within the working environment. Wi l l iam Knight, Show Director, 100% Design comments, “Our forthcoming show not only marks what we have achieved in the last 20 editions, but also looks ahead to the future of design and where it will take us in the next 20. “100% Design remains a global platform for leading design brands from around the world to launch their products and services. Workplace design is a key area that has seen a growing demand in recent years. This very much reflects the way we work now – an office is no longer just a place where people work, it is also a hub where we exchange ideas and inspire each other. “We are delighted to secure another strong line-up of exhibitors, as well as compelling feature content for this year’s 100% Workplace, demonstrating how important our show is to this specialist sector on an international level.” To reinforce the concept of a working community, each industry section at 100% Design will feature a prominent design installation. This year’s commission for Workplace will be designed by NBBJ, an international architecture and design practice responsible for some of the most innovative projects - commissioned by major global companies such as Google, Amazon and Samsung. The Workplace hub aims to highlight the multi-disciplinary nature of workplace, as well as the social importance of the modern office environment. The feature will reflect the fusing of hospitality and working environments, an emerging trend that is increasingly informing workplace design. The hub will offer a true networking and social space during the show, inspired by the theme of serendipity.

David Lewis, Pr incipal at NBBJ comments: “Inspired by the simplicity of kinetic sculpture and the complexity of our design algorithms, we wanted to create a space that flexes in response to people flow and gently encourages serendipitous encounters.” iAlter by NBBJ at 100% Workplace will feature an active installation which will influence the nature of the space, to create a variety of environmental experiences for those using the hub’s social facilities and bar.

Joining the show for the first time, Nowy Styl Group (Stand O110), known for their fresh thinking office concepts, will explore the collaborative working environments, with the introduction of its new Hexa Media Pods and Sand units. Another newcomer to the show, Dataflex (Stand O45) will share its stand with Mauser Office which will present its new element.x office storage system. Bestuhl UK (Stand O12), specialising in ergonomically-designed office chairs (above left), will launch its new J2 and Jcon range of seating at the show exclusively, while Dutch contract furniture specialist Casala (Stand O112) will showcase Monolink (above right), the company’s first chair equipped with a system that allows for both linking and stacking.

Following its debut at 100% Design last year, Danish coffee machine expert Scanomat (Stand O6) will launch the Home Edition of TopBrewer (above left), the world’s first iPhone/iPad controlled coffee machine at this year’s show. Its minimalistic design – simply a stainless steel swan neck tap above the counter - enables TopBrewer to be easily integrated into any counter or space, thus ideal for workspace and home. Also making a return to the show is Soundtect (Stand O300), which will preview two new acoustic panels for walls and ceilings, including Morse, Class and Cubism (above right).

Award winning acoustic specialists BuzziSpace, (Stand O312) will launch the BuzziPicNic, an innovative wooden indoor picnic table, and the new BuzziShade (above left), a sound absorbent lampshade that provides acoustic insulation in the workplace. Alongside these collections, BuzziSpace will look back through the archives and show iconic designs by Ernest Race, including The BA3 chair and The Rocker chair. Bringing high technology to 100% Design 2014, CMS Ergonomics (Stand O360) will present its latest innovation, aircharge (above right), which provides wireless charging solutions for the office, home and public spaces.

100% Design 2014 also sees the launch of Edge (above left), Isomi's (Stand O220) latest collection by designer Paul Crofts. Edge is made from Porcelanosa’s innovative solid surface material Krion®, and the collection comprises a modular desk, modular seating and a coffee table, all with a lean angular aesthetic. Isomi will also debut its new Slim Media Unit, a pioneering way to display screen-based information. Office chair specialist Topstar (Stand O130) will showcase its latest ranges including W1 and W7, while Contour Design (Stand O152) will present its new armrest for the desk, Arm Support RED (above right).
