43 HORSES AND PONIES, TOPPING AT £1800 Auctioneer Gwyn Williams

An absolutely tremendous trade, the best we’ve seen for a long time, with strong bidding from the start, and a very high percentage clearance. Many horses made well over reserve prices, delighting their vendors. The sale was topped at £1800 by Holly, a smart 15’2 hh black mare with Show-jumping experience, heading for a new home on the Wirral. Bryn 8, a 14’2 hh cob-type black-and-white gelding, rising 8 year-old, made £1350 to a Barnsley buyer, with an 11 year-old grey Irish Draft gelding, with hunting experience, selling for £1200 to a Stockport-based purchaser. Another cob-type gelding, this time the 15’2 hh 10 year-old Merlun, also went home to Stockport for £1000, with a 4 year-old unbroken, but nice-natured, mare, Mindy, sold for £950. Cob types, in particular those with potential to school and work, sold exceptionally well throughout, with several mares and geldings from £300 to £850, with the smarter end all above £500. NEXT SALE: Wednesday 12th June at 11.00 am…..entries for advertising on Facebook etc to Sophie asap at [email protected] www.wrightmarshall.co.uk/auctioneers

93 CULL COWS 10.00am Auctioneer Simon Lamb 07815188125

Topping at 150p or £1162

Bank holiday weekend entry at Beeston today, with numbers hovering consistently around the 100 mark. Tarde through the ring needs to be seen, as cows continue to gross huge amounts on their legs, with everything weighed and paid for from tongue to tail. Trade was exactly the same as last week, with the steakers and plainer end looking very well sold in comparison to some, with the very best black and whites selling one after another in the early 120’s. That’s said, the average’s are most important, and its pounds in pockets which count for most. In the lump, week after week, all cow sold from Jersey types at £252 to strong Holstein’s well over £1100, are averaging in excess of £700. Just make not when someone is on the farm gate, or the statement comes back with “NO” deductions, turn over and see what charge for transport etc …is. Transport can easily be arranged to bring your stock to market, all you need do is call. Please don’t forget to inform ourselves if your cattle are tested, with a real premium for feeding types, and a bag full of buyers to match. At Beeston we cater for all models, shapes and sizes plus there wasn’t hardly a foreign tagged animal under £1 per kilo. Please don’t hesitate to call Simon Lamb on 07815 188125. Today’s market average (mostly black and white), coming in at 111.53ppk or £737.47 per head. (Everything in, including the lean, mean, lame and loopy!) Black and white cows traded throughout the day at 120p to 135p for meated cows(135p to 150p younger models), 110p to 120p for steakers, 100p to 110p for stronger plain cows and 85p to 105p there after!

Top Spot 258 p/kg-37.0 kg Beltex Crosses, Kevin Edwards, Cartmel (and peaking at £109.75 per head for 46.7 kg from Rob Harrison, Runcorn) With larger throughputs of New Lambs all over the country this week, the slip in trade seen last week has continued, so it was pleasing to see all buyers keen from the start today, although once again it is obvious that there is a premium available for well-finished Lambs of lighter weights, ie 37-42 kg, most wanted by the major buyers. It may pay to draw your Lambs hard over the next couple of weeks to maximise returns per kg. Kevin Edwards saw a pen of very smart 37 kg Beltex Crosses top the day at 258p, Andrew and Jan Walton’s best Charollais Crosses made 251p, whilst plenty of smarter Lambs made over 240p/kg, the overall average comparing very well with other sales this week. Top Spot: 228.0p/kg– for 43.1kg Texel Crosses from Messrs Schofield, Acton; (and to £100.28 per head for 57.3kg from Colin Hooley) Still a few about! If you still have a few, please check their teeth and sell asap! A few better sorts made to 200p for Reg Phillips’ best, but most meaty types were from 170p to 190p/kg. A super show of cattle once again, not quite the 200 that we have become accustomed to, but a solid entry for the time of year. Forward cattle were easily the trade they have been for weeks, if anything slightly better for some things. Chris Whitby took the day’s top 3 prices with his usual quality; £1250, £1225 and £1195 for 21mo Continental steers. Jean Holland came very close with the best of her pen at £1165 and Phil Tushingham sold over 30 month steers to £1135. Today’s entry was bolstered by a special consignment from AJ Brighouse & Son, Morley Green. These forward summering types are noted good do’ers, steers topped at £1060 and heifers at £1030. Top call in the heifers was from Huw & Janice Evans, Gawsworth. A cracking Angus x Charolais heifer at £1050, several pens of strong continental heifers over £1000 and best of the Herefords from Messrs Brassington, Roden, to £900. Thank you all for your support once again, please help us to help you by arriving in good time with your stock, the market is manned from 7am, the earlier you’re there – the more people will see your cattle – simple marketing!
