Department of Psychiatry Offi ce of the Chair

Dear Colleague,

I’m very excited to announce the Second Annual Conference on Urban Mental Health at the Department of Psychiatry, Rutgers New Jersey Medi-cal School. Urban communities are often plaqued by especially challeng-ing addiction and mental health issues, and clinicians frequently encounter patients with co-occurring substance use disorders but often lack specialized training. During this conference, we hope to bridge this gap in knowledge and increase participants’ awareness and comfort in treating substance use disorders. A panel of experts will discuss the most recent developments in the fi eld, and two separate “practicums” will engage the conference partici-pants in interactive and “hands-on” exercises with each other.

When you attend the Urban Mental Health conference, you will:

Learn the latest research developments in urban mental health and addiction medicine

Develop practical skills that can be readily applied to everyday clinical practice

Receive a complete set of the conference handout materials

Participate in the Rutgers NJMS Psychiatry Resident Research Symposium

Earn Continuing Education credits for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, certifi ed counselors, certifi ed alcohol and drug counselors, and marriage and family therapists Enjoy a delicious lunch with your colleagues

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, certifi ed counselors, certifi ed alcohol and drug counselors, marriage and fam-ilty therapists, researchers, students, and trainees who are involved in and/or interested in the intersection of urban mental health issues and addiction.

I’m looking forward to seeing you on November 7 ! Best wishes,

Petros Levounis, MD, MA Chair, Department of Psychiatry Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
