    If your child will be

    taking a different

    afternoon bus or getting

off at a different stop, the

    following information will be needed:

    Your childs full name

The name of your childs teacher

The address of where they aregoing and the name of who theywill be with.

If your child will is being picked ufor dismissal, thenthis information willbe needed:

Your childs full nameThe name of your childs teacher

The name of the person who wilbe picking them up.

Pickup students will be dismissed toyour vehicle each afternoon. Eachstudent needs to be checked off ofour list before leaving KES.

Class StoreEach week the kids will have different jobs that help to

make our classroom a place that is both fun and safe.

Each day that they remember to do their jobs, the

    children will earn income.

At the end of each month, our class, as well as 2 others,

will open a class store during the math period and the

children may choose to spend their earnings there.

The boys and girls will be able to get authentic practice

using money as well as having fun.

The key factors that make this activity not only fun but

also a valuable and meaningful learning experience will

be parent volunteers to help with counting money and

making purchases as well as donations for our

    inventory.

Items can be sent in at anytime during the school year

and will be very much appreciated by the kids!

    HOMEWORK

Almost every night there will be somehomework for your child to complete. Part ofwhat they will be responsible for is doingsome reading each day. There will be aReading Log each week for you to fill outtogether showing how many minutes wereread each day. At least 15 minutes of readingeach day is expected, but the reading can be

anything they choose. Books, magazines, eventhe comics count! Time that you spend readingto them can also be included in their readingtotals.

Sometime in October, each student will havea weekly Bag Book to bring home. This willbe a book with an activity that they will havea week to complete and return. The timethey spend reading this book will also count

    toward their reading totals.

There is also a nightly math Home Linkworksheet. This math homework will be areview of what we worked on during classand should not take more than 10-15 minutes

to complete. It is often reviewed the nextday before moving on with the next lesson,so it is very important that it comes back

with them in their Home/School Folders.

Students are encouraged to have refillable water bottle in thclassroom. Staying hydrated iimportant in the warmer months, bucan also help prevent dry skin an

chapped lips in thcolder Maine climate

They a re a lwayallowed to keep awater bottle at theidesk and can refill athe water fountain.

    Volunteering

Volunteering is so important here at KES. As a

volunteer, you can provide our kids with great role

models. If you have some extra time and the

desire, your help will be very much appreciated.

If you dont have much time to offer, but would still

like to do something to help, there are

opportunities to assist the classroom in other

ways. We always need donations of tissues,

hand sanitizer (with pump tops or sanitizing

wipes), band-aids, plastic zip-top bags, and other

supplies. Donations for our Class Store (see page

    3) are always welcome as well!

I have several different kinds of volunteering

opportunities and other needs come up

throughout the year for things like field trips and

PE programs like roller skating and snow

shoeing. You can sign up here tonight or contact

me later. Your support is always greatly

appreciated, no matter how you do it!

Stability BallsStudies have shown that the braincan benefit from movement duringlearning. Many of our teachershave implemented the use ofstability balls in the classroom as areplacement for standard deskchairs and found it to besuccessful. I will be continuingthis program as an option to my2nd graders. If your child wouldlike to use a stability ball inreplacement of a chair, they mayuse one. Each child will use onlytheir ball which will be adjusted tobest fit them at their desk. We willbegin the year using chairs andintroduce the balls after severallessons about how to use themsafely and properly.
