INTRODUCTION
• Quebec faced blackout due to electric currents flowing beneath the ground and many other reasons were involved but all this occurred due to the solar flares which were erupted.
• (Meaning) Solar flare - A brief eruption of intense high-energy radiation from the sun's surface.
Occurrence
• At 2:44:16 AM on March 13, all was well and power engineers at Hydro-Quebec resigned themselves to yet another night of watching loads come and go during the off-peak hours. The engineers didn't know, however, that for the last half-hour, their entire system had been under attack by powerful Earth current which were cause due to the eruptions
Effects
• Electrical ground currents created by the magnetic storm found their way into the power grid of the Hydro-Quebec Power Authority and the entire Quebec power grid collapsed and so Six million people were affected as they woke to find no electricity to see them through a cold Quebec wintry night.
• Also due to this schools and workplaces were closed which lead to a huge economic loss.
