Cleaning Up The GlassThrough Saturday’s action, the Huskies ranked thirdnationally averaging 42.7 rebounds per game. Theygrab nearly 3 more rebounds per game than the nextclosest Pac-12 team - California. They lead the Pac-12 in both offensive rebounds per game (14.3) anddefensive rebounds (28.3). Six Huskies average 4 ormore boards per game and a seventh (Abdul Gaddy)is grabbing 3.8 per contest. On the flip side, UW isgiving up 36.5 rebounds per game to their opponents, which ranks dead last among Pac-12 teams..

Dawgs Pack Their BagsWashington began its coast-to-coast tour last Thurs-day that will see them travel 5,946 miles over a spanof 10 days. The Huskies hopped on a plane last Thurs-day to make the 572 mile flight to Reno. On Saturdaymorning, the team caught a 7:00 a.m. flight back toSeattle and on Sunday headed right back to the Sea-Tac airport for the 2,401 mile flight to Newark, N.J.The Huskies will spend 6 days in New York City andplay Marquette at 6:30 p.m. PT as part of the JimmyV Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 6 and Duke as part of theCARQUEST Auto Parts Classic on Saturday, Dec. 10at 9:00 a.m. PT. Washington heads home on Saturdayafternoon after the Duke game.

On GuardWashington came into the season with one of the top-rated backcourts in the nation and early on, the Huskiesare living up to the billing. The team’s top-four leadingscorer are guards led by 16.2 ppg from Terrence Ross.C.J. Wilcox is not far behind at 15.8 ppg and fresh-man point guard Tony Wroten comes off the bench andcontributes 13.0 ppg. The group is doing more than just

scoring, exemplified by Abdul Gaddy, who is the calm-ing influence on the court. He is 4th among Huskies with9.7 ppg and is dishing out 5.3 apg to rank 2nd in the con-ference. Wilcox is tied for the Pac-12 lead in 3-pt makesper game and is also 5th in steals. Ross pulls down animpressive 6.7 rebounds per game to rank 10th in thePac-12 and Wroten is 4th in the conference with 2.2steals per game and T-7th with 3.8 apg.

UW Bench: No Experience RequiredThe Huskies’ current starting five and bench playersare stark contrasts in experience. Entering this season,UW’s projected starters (N’Diaye, Gant, Gaddy, Rossand Wilcox) had a combined 256 college games undertheir belts. With Scott Suggs (84 career games) out due

to injury, the other nine guys had combined to play 23games -- all by walkon Brendan Sherrer who has onlyplayed in games that the Huskies have won by 17 ormore points. The Huskies have eight players on theirroster that entered this year having never played in acollege game during their careers, unless you countDesmond Simmons appearing in last year’s exhibitiongame vs. St. Martin’s before deciding to redshirt theseason. Besides Simmons, Washington’s new facesinclude seven true freshmen: Andrew Andrews, Mar-tin Breunig, Jernard Jarreau, Shawn Kemp Jr., HikeemStewart, Tony Wroten and walk-on Alex Wegner. An-drews and Jarreau will redshirt this season.

Welcome Back Gaddy Last Saturday’s contest vs. Georgia State was AbdulGaddy’s first game since playing at UCLA on Dec. 31,2010. Gaddy scored 7 points, grabbed a career-high 7rebounds and dished 6 assists. His play caused GeorgiaState’s coach Ron Hunter to state: “…The key to theirbasketball team, is that point guard. (He) controls ev-erything. When he plays well, they’re going to be hardto beat. That kid’s really good. You can see the glitterwith the other guys, but that point guard … he’s spe-cial.” Gaddy is returning from a season-ending anteriorcruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his left knee sufferedduring practice on Jan. 4, 2011. Gaddy was cleared toreturn to action on Sept. 7, 2011 and has hardly misseda beat. He does not play with a brace and has com-

peted fully since practice started in October. Gaddy wasleading the Pac-10 in assist to turnover ratio at 3.1 (49assists/16 turnovers) when he went down last season. His 3.8 assists per game was the seventh best averagein the Pac-10 Conference and he also ranked ninth inthree-point shooting percentage (40.6%).

Triple VisionWashington was a sparkling 27-of-56 (.482) from 3-pointrange during the World Vision Classic. They were justa tad better from 2-pont range, going 65-of-134 (.485).They are averaging a Pac-12 best 7.8 makes per game

so far, a year removed from ranking first in the Pac-10and 12th nationally with 8.7 makes per game.

Senior StatementsDarnell Gant and Scott Suggs have a chance to be-come the first Huskies to EVER make four NCAA Tour-naments. They have already had a championship-ladencareer earning the 2009 Pac-10 regular season cham-pionship, plus the 2010 and 2011 Pac-10 Tournament

Championships. The Dawgs are 76-30 over their firstthree seasons. The pair also share team captain dutieswith Gaddy.

Sons Of SonicsShawn Kemp Jr. is not the first Husky player to comefrom NBA lineage -- specifically sons of Seattle Son-ics. Through the year, four other Huskies had dads thatspent portions of their NBA careers playing for the Son-ics. Here is a look at the list:

Son (Years a Husky) Dad (Yrs a Sonics)Shawn Kemp, Jr. (2012-) Shawn (1989-97)Marlon Shelton (1999-2003) Lonnie (1978-82)Bryan Brown (1998-2001) Fred (1971-84)

Mike Westphal (1999-2000) Paul (1980-81)Donald Watts (1996-99) Slick (1974-78)

Three AmigosWashington shot and made a school record 305 three-pointers in 821 attempts in 2010-11. Wilcox.Scott Suggs made 49 in 109 attempts (45%) to finishthird in the Pac-10 percentage-wise and fifth in UW sin-gle-season history. Suggs has made 89 three-pointersin his career, the 10th most in UW history. TerrenceRoss hit 44 as a true freshman.

Block Party

Junior Aziz N’Diaye’s 5 blocked shots vs. GeorgiaState marked the 23rd time that a Husky has swattedthat many shots in a game. It equaled his career highset last season vs. Kentucky. UW has 20 as a team, ayear after the Huskies set a new team record with 179blocks.

Jarreau, Andrews Will Red-ShirtCoach Romar announced during his post-game pressconference that freshman Jernard Jarreau will redshirtthis season. The 6-foot-10 freshman and Romar talkedprior to Washington’s game on Saturday and made thedecision. Jarreau, from New Orleans, will now join An-drew Andrews on the bench for the year to form part ofthe 2012 freshman class.

Ouches In OctoberBefore the Huskies even started the season, they re-ceived a double dose of bad news. Senior sharpshooterScott Suggs underwent surgery on his right foot onOct. 14. and is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks -- plac-ing him on pace for a return to action in New York Cityby early December. Highly touted freshman Tony Wro-

ten also went down on Oct. 20 and underwent minorarthroscopic surgery on his right knee. He was able toreturn in time to play in the Nov. 4 exhibition game andshould be ready for the regular season.

Pac-12 NotesPac-12 Underway

Colorado and Utah joined the Pac-10 to form the Pac-12. It marks the first additions to the conference sinceArizona and Arizona State joined the conference in1978-79. As in previous years, the conference scheduleis comprised of 18 games for each institution and willmaintain the travel partner in a non-divisional format. The annual schedule will include games against aninstitution’s traditional rival both home and away. Inaddition, each institution will play six other opponentsboth home and away (for two consecutive years), andfour opponents on a single game basis - two at homeand two away. The single-play opponents will rotateevery two years. This year Washington misses Cal andStanford in the Bay Area and will not host Utah andColorado.

The people of Seattle and students at the University of Washington know what a special place the Pacific Northwest canbe and that the Huskies’ campus is world-class caliber. Seattle is reknown as a great place to call home and the college isacclaimed as one of the nation’s top public institutions. Here is where the city and university rank in several polls:
