Through January 12th, the S&P 500

is up 3.0% for the year, the DowJones Industrial Average is up 2.1%,the Nasdaq is up 4.6% and the

EAFE index, which tracks theinternational markets is up 0.7% forthe year. Our No BS ETF Trader

model is up 2.3%.

Most of the major indices endedthe day positive. This was mostly

due to solid Italian & Spanishbond auctions in Europe andfalling oil prices. Oil prices fellbelow $100 a barrel. The topindustries of the day were

industrials and materials.

In addition the European Central

Bank announced that it will notchange the benchmark interestrate. Some commodity prices were

very volatile today after the USDAreported a larger than expectedsupply of grains. This hurt corn and

wheat prices.

In other economic news, weekly initialjobless claims grew to 399K and retailsales climbed just 0.1% last month. In

better news, 30 Year fixed ratemortgages fell to a record low of 3.89percent. This was a result of the 10 yearTreasury note falling below 2%. In

addition, consumer confidence reachedits highest level since summer. TheBloomberg Consumer Comfort Index

reported a figure of minus 44.7.

In corporate news, Chevron Corpreported that its fourth quarter profit

would be much lower than the previousquarter. Chevron ended the day down2.6%. Wynn Resorts Ltd dropped 1.9%after its Vice Chairman sued thecompany. Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc, acreator of circuit boards reported betterthan expected preliminary quarterlysales. The stock finished the day up18%.
