New Palliative Care Centre to focus on non-cancer illness research and education The Palliative Care Centre for Excellence in Research and Education (PalC) will develop training and education programmes to equip healthcare professionals and volunteers with skills to provide patients with a more comfortable, productive and independent end of life. The centre will also seek to gain a better understanding of patients with end-stage organ diseases, including developing more effective tools for predicting lifespans. The MOU signing took place on 12 th October 2017 at the Singapore Health and Biomedical Congress. We are looking forward to working alongside the National Healthcare Group (NHG) and Nanyang Technological University in this new initiative. View Video | View Photos Programme Dignity improves quality of life and lessens pain for advanced dementia patients Programme Dignity, Singapore’s first palliative home-care programme for advanced dementia patients shows they can fare well at home with the right support. This first-of-its-kind programme by Dover Park Hospice with Temasek Foundation and Tan Tock Seng Hospital shows all-round improvements in the patients’ quality of life and a lower utilisation of acute healthcare services. The results were released to the public in the media on the 21 st of September 2017. While hospice care has been available in Singapore for decades and has helped numerous patients, many seriously-ill patients and family members continue to have mis-perceptions.” Said Prof Lionel Lee, Chairman of Dover Park Hospice at a Press Conference to announce the news. He added, “We hope through our campaign and with Gurmit as our ambassador, more people can come to understand how Hospice care can enhance the quality of life for seriously-ill patients and help them find comfort and peace.” Read more DPH’s first community Roadshow sees 919 pledging to spread more awareness on Hospice Care On the 23rd and 24th of September 2017, close to 1000 members of the public came through the doors of the newly-renovated Bishan Community Club to understand more about Palliative Care through the talks and booths going on in the hall, and to enjoy our mini-carnival in the outdoor area. 80 dedicated DPH volunteers helped out at the 25th Anniversary Roadshow, alongside 61 volunteers from HQMC and our own staff from both clinical and admin teams. Our Guest of Honour for the occasion was SMS Lam Pin Min and our emcee was our newly appointed goodwill ambassador, funny-man Gurmit Singh, who continued to help us dispel hospice myths during the programme.
