The list below provides information about all the events that are taking place throughout your Orientation with us.

INTERNATIONAL CHECK IN– Where do we go upon arrival in Malaysia

Friday, 6 Jan at 1200Wednesday, 11 Jan at 1200All airport pick-ups for international students are managed by theInternational Office. Students are required to log in their arrival detailsonline via the new pre-boarding system. The link for this new pre-boarding system can be found here:http://studentcentral.taylors.edu.my/eServiceRequest/PreBoarding/_layouts/aq/preboarding/pbchecklist.aspx

All requests for airport pick-ups must be logged in at least five (5)calendar days before the date and time of arrival. Any requests madeafter this shall be automatically rejected and you shall have to makeyour own way to Taylor’s University.

Airport pick-ups can be arranged at the following airports:(i) Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA / KLIA 2)(ii) Subang Skypark Terminal

Pick-ups are available on weekdays between 1000 hours and 1800hours (Malaysian Time). Students are advised to avoid arrival on apublic holiday.

All airport pick-ups will transfer you from the airport to Taylor’sUniversity Lakeside Campus. You will be assisted with reporting to theInternational Office before you are taken to the Taylor’s HostelManagement Office to sort out your accommodation.

TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY WELCOMEWednesday, 11 Jan at 1430Taylor’s Orientation Week is the most effective first step towardstransitioning students into University campus life with enrichingexperiences. New students are formally welcome by the Taylor’sUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President, Deans and Vice-President ofthe Student Experience Department. Under the Student ExperienceDepartment, students can look forward to learning more about theStudent Central, Bursary and Financial Aid, Career Services Centre,Global Mobility Office, Counseling and Psychological Services Centre,Health Services Centre, Student Development Hub, Sports andRecreations Centre, International Student Services and InternationalOffice. In addition, students are able to acquire critical information onthe services provided by Library, ICT, University Gym, Student SuccessCentre (SSC) and SHINE Awards Centre (SAC). The e-Learning Academywill introduce the Blended Learning with TIMES which is important forstudents to know about the online platform available in assisting, andenhancing their learning experiences. Senior students and alumni areinvited to share their campus experiences and how to maximize theirtime in the university, balancing between academic achievement,personal development and leadership enhancement.

TYPHOID INOCULATIONWednesday, 11 Jan at 0900It is compulsory for all students under the Hospitality, Culinary Arts andBachelor of Science in Culinology to take the Typhoid Inoculation.Students can receive the Typhoid injection at Kumpulan Medic Cliniclocated at Syopz, The Boardwalk, Level 1.

UNIFORM COLLECTIONWednesday, 11 Jan at 1430This is applicable to students under the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts programme. Uniform measurement and collection isat Taylor’s Merchandize Shop located at the Syopz, The Boardwalk. Level 1. Students have to present the receipt showing their uniformpurchase during collection from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm only

STUDENT IDWednesday, 11 Jan at 1230All students are required to have their digital photo taken for Student ID printing. You can take your digital photo at Student Central bypresenting your original payment receipt (full-payment for the 1st Semester).Your Student ID will be ready for collection after 24 hours on

weekdays.

THE FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE: ADJUSTING TO UNIVERSITY LIFEThursday, 12 Jan 1000All FIRST YEAR students are advised to attend this workshop as we will cover issues like adjusting to university life; discuss why some studentsdrop out and how to prevent it happening to you; complete a “Power Profile” on how ready am I for tertiary studies; cover Survival Skills anddiscuss surprises about university Life. Discussions will be facilitated by support staff from SSC, CPSC, school FYE Committees and seniorstudents.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES EXPOThursday, 12 Jan at 1200Clubs and Societies Day is an avenue for new students to join any Clubs and Societies of their choice ranging from community centric, businessand entrepreneurship, performing arts, spiritual connectivity, cultural, public speaking, special interests, sports and international clubs andsocieties. There are more than 50 over clubs and societies participating in this recruitment drive to engage with new students throughdecorated Clubs and Societies specific booths, activities and performances.

PERSONAL SAFETY AWARENESS AND ACTION WORKSHOPFriday, 13 Jan at 0930All students are advised to attend this workshop where they will learn how to avoid being a victim of crime and Self-defense. During thisworkshop, different technics and tips will be demonstrated on how to defend oneself. This workshop is also compulsory for all in order forstudents to collect their Student ID using Taylor’s Freshman Card provided.

CAMPUS HUNTFriday, 13 Jan at 1400The adrenalin pumping self-navigated Campus Hunt is organized by Taylor’s University Orientation Leaders to help new students befamiliarized with the key location and support services of various student-oriented departments. Every station is in-fused with fun and excitinggames and students are required to work in a group to solve different round of challenges which promotes integration, team work and criticalthinking. Please come attired in your sport shoes/flats and pants.

KL FAMILIARISATION TRIPSaturday, 21 Jan at 1100The Kuala Lumpur Familiarization Trip aims to help students to get to know more about the local transportation system, the local delicaciesand the uniqueness of our urban city. The Kuala Lumpur Familiarization Trip will include:i) KL Sentral - an intermodal transportation hub to most of Kuala Lumpur's passenger rail lines as well as an intercity train station between

Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore.ii) KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers) – One of Malaysia’s iconic landmarks

STUDENT PASS AND VISAInternational students who wish to pursue their study in Taylor’sUniversity must obtain a student pass and visa, a requirement by theMalaysian Immigration Department.

From 1st February 2013, all international students intending to pursue aprogramme of study at any higher education institution in Malaysia shallhave their Student Pass applications process by a new agency known asEducation Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

SINGLE ENTRY VISAOnce the Student Pass and Visa Approval Letter (VAL) is issued, allinternational students MUST obtain a Single Entry Visa to enter Malaysiafrom their nearest Malaysian High Commission / Malaysian Embassy /Consulate.

UPON ARRIVALOnce the application of the Student Pass is successful, a Visa ApprovalLetter (VAL) will be issued. Students are required to bring this VAL withthem when they travel to Malaysia. The VAL must be presented to theimmigration officer at the airport upon arrival.

AFTER ARRIVALReport to International Office with the following documents;a. Original passportb. b. Presentation of original academic transcripts and certificatesc. Submission of signed Letter of Acceptanced. Presentation of Official receiptse. Submission of signed copy: Policies and Regulations for

International students

It is mandatory requirement that students will need to undergo aMedical Health Examination within 3 working days upon arriving inMalaysia, by a medical/health clinic designated by EMGS.

The Student Pass Endorsement is the final step in completing the processfor obtaining a Student Pass for international students. It confirms andseals your status as an international student in Malaysia.

ACCOMMODATIONThere are 4 options for accommodation you may consider:

1. On-campus accommodation U Residence is the hostel accommodationthat is located at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus, and managed by the Taylor’sHostel Management Sdn Bhd.

2. OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATIONOff-campus accommodation is located outside of Taylor’s UniversityLakeside Campus, and managed by the Taylor’s Hostel Management SdnBhd. This may mean having to commute to the campus via public orprivate transport in order to attend classes or activities.

4. PRIVATE LANDLORDSThere are ample of private landlords within the vicinity of the university.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Neither the University nor any member of Universitystaff has any authority to make or give any representations or warrantywhatsoever as regards the properties conditions or otherwise and inparticular cannot guarantee that such properties comply with currentFire Regulations, Building Regulations, the Planning Acts, Health andSafety legislation and Licensing Schemes.

1. STUDENT IDIt is very important to have your Student ID with you and displayedat all times when you are on campus. Students are required topresent original payment receipt (full-payment for the 1stSemester) to the Student Advisor @ Student Central Counter (BlockA, Level 2) to take a digital picture for the Student ID.

2. PEDESTRIAN ACCESS CARDIf you are staying in PJS 7 area or taking the RapidKL Bus 783 toLakeside Campus, you may apply for a pedestrian access card togain access to the campus via the pedestrian gate. To apply for one,please email ([email protected]) to the StudentAdvisor @ Student Central for advice.

3. PARKING SYSTEM IN LAKESIDEFree parking bays are available at Zone H and Zone I in LakesideCampus. Parking fee of RM3 per entry is applicable to Zone J andbasement parking at the Boardwalk. The parking facility is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please look for alternative sites if all theparking bays are taken up.

4. COMMUTING TO LAKESIDE CAMPUSStudents may commute to Taylor’s Lakeside campus using public

transportation such as BRT Sunway Line (Sunmed Station, KTMKomuter (Sentul – Port Klang Line), LRT (Kelana Jaya Line), RapidKL783 bus (from Kelana Jaya) or using the Taylor’s shuttle buses.

5. DRESS CODE POLICYStudents must dress neatly with clean attire at all times. Studentsare advised to be mindful of the cultural sensitivities of others andthe academic environment.

6. SMOKE-FREE CAMPUS ENVIRONMENTSmoking is not permitted on Taylor’s University grounds which areclearly separated from the Commercial Block (The Boardwalk) bythe demarcation stickers. Students found smoking on the Universitygrounds will face the below consequences:

First-time offenders will be given a verbal warning and their detailswill be recorded in a database by Student Central.

For a second offence, the student will be fined RM50 and receive awarning letter from the University.

If a third offence is committed, the student will be fined RM100 andbe subjected to disciplinary action
