Dear Colleague,

As some SSOs prepare to celebrate their 21st birthday, leadership teams are pausing to reflect upon what’s next on the journey.

Most SSOs that are beyond the initial stabilized phase, now face a monumental challenge:

Following the massive savings offered by the SSO in the early years (30% - 80% savings), where will the next big win come from?

Given that most SSOs are somewhere on the standardisation journey (when will it ever end!?), how can you, as an SSO leader, deliver the savings and service that will impress your internal customer to the same degree they were wowed after your first few years of shared services?

We have been scratching our heads for a few years, and trying solutions like GBS, outsourcing, GPOs, value-add, multifunctional SSOs…

All these have worked well for us (in the main), but still we -- and our internal clients -- long for the double-digit savings that our younger selves delivered.

I invite you to join me in London in March for our 10th Shared Services Leaders’ Summit. We will focus on 4 enablers designed to take your SSO from good to exceptional and unleash a new wave of savings whilst helping you deliver excellent service.

These 4 enablers are:

InnovationCustomer SatisfactionContinuous Improvement Talent

Be part of this event by RSVPing today, so you can build and enrich your plan to deliver greater savings and service excellence to your internal stakeholders and customers.

See you in March!

Susie WestCEO, sharedserviceslink and Chair of March Leaders’ Summit

Conference Day One

8:15 Coffee and registration

9:00 Opening address: How old are we and how do we stay fresh?

Chances are your SSO is over 5 years old. If it is, you may think your glory days are behind you. This event looks to challenge that belief. In this opening address, we will touch upon the fresh ways SSOs are wowing their internal stakeholders with surprising endeavours.Susie West CEO SHAREDSERVICESLINK

10:00 Keynote address: Life After GBS

Rio Tinto is a mature SSO. However, 15 years after their SSO was inaugurated, and 3 years after they designed their GBS, they are now ushering in the next wave of change. As of mid-2016 the GBS structure was disbanded. The existing core functional service and support areas of IS&T, Procurement and Business Services & Support (which includes Finance and People Services, Service Management, Global Process, etc.) are now part of Organization Resources, reporting directly into the Group Executive. This change has allowed the function to be closer to the assets which are at the heart of Rio Tinto’s business. In this session we will examine how Rio Tinto is within the world-class band (Hackett Group) for Finance, and almost there for Procurement and IT. With 2 key objectives on the horizon (RPA and standardisation), this case study will illustrate how Rio Tinto plan to keep the customer front of mind and how, as a mature organisation, they plan to achieve the incremental value-add to their global processes.Sanjay Patel Head of Organisation Resource RIO TINTO

11:15 The Not so Secret Life of Robots – an RPA case Study

Employee engagement has increased as a result as well as the efficiency across the processes – showing that a lot of investment, both financially and with resource can deliver a meaningful ROI.

12:00 Taking a Functioning Public Sector Shared Services Towards the Cloud

Back in 2012 Cheshire and Northamptonshire Constabularies collaborated and established the Multi-Force Shared Services (MFSS). A force to be reckoned with, it manages transactional services including HR, Purchasing and Payroll as well as smaller services to the every Police force in the UK. With savings made that equate to over 300 police years the MFSS is ensuring that front line Policing has the right financial support. In this session you will learn how MFSS is driving its vision forward to secure; E2E process efficiency, growth and a migration to Oracle Cloud Apps. If the public sector can do shared services and implement Cloud technology, then there’s hope for the private sector yet!Sarah Copley-Hirst Head Multi-Force Shared Service (MFSS) CHESHIRE CONSTABULARY

16:00 The evolution of the customer relationship: Shell’s story

During their finance shared service journey, Shell has taken the opportunity to strategically re-position their captive organisation from service provider to integrated business partner. This has involved a fundamental change to the way that Shell operates their internal captive model branding from ‘services’ to ‘operations’. George Connell, VP Finance Operations will detail this evolution and show just what it takes to become a business partner. He will discuss how Shell’s attitude towards maturity has influenced many areas including SSC location choices and why the removal of SLAs has had a positive impact. If you are at a turning point in your SSO’s journey and want to see how you can enhance your brand, vision, offering and customer service, this session is not to be missed.George Connell VP Finance Operations SHELL

9:45 Is there still a case for outsourcing?

With SSOs having made so much progress utilising internal resources and solution providers, some may argue that the business case for outsourcing is set to weaken. Yet, the reality is that the case for good arbitrage is still strong, and the relationships that SSOs have with their BPOs are strengthening. SABMiller work closely with Genpact and have reached a point where RPA is now a focus for the business relationship – this is a game-changer for both the SSO and BPO. In this session, hear how you can maintain your outsourcing business case and relationship and ensure that the early ROI results are still as exciting 15 years on from those first few contracts.Suzanne Ryder Head Business Service Transformation SABMILLER

By already focusing on catalog enablement and system workflow improvements, DHL has increased the Purchase Order automation level to 95% worldwideIn this session Jerker Gunnarsson will discuss:• Why DHL are mapping their SSC activities to identify further automation areas

• How they are measuring their automation capabilities so they can reach 100% automation

Founded in 1985, Kofax has grown from a small startup to a versatile software company with a large

portfolio of capture, process management, analytics and mobile solutions.

The purchase-to-pay, record-to-report and order-to-cash processes an organisation undertakes are often bogged down by inefficient, manual work and an inability to harness the large amounts of unstructured data that aren’t managed by an ERP. End-to-end financial process automation (FPA) solutions from Kofax are designed to bring order to data and processes by automating an organisation’s entire financial cycle. By doing so, routine and manual tasks are eliminated and staff members and stakeholders across the company gain complete visibility into key metrics and process performance.

Our software works within a company’s ERP, instead of around it, making workflow intuitive and seamless. Kofax solutions can be integrated with any existing ERP, including SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft, Microsoft Dynamics and Infor Lawson, as well as with multiple ERPs.

The last five years have brought exciting changes to Kofax, with the addition of key technologies, like robotic process automation provider Kapow, to our solutions portfolio. In 2015, Kofax, ReadSoft and Perceptive Software became part of the same family of solutions.

With service across 70 countries, Kofax is a global market leader serving the unique challenges of large, complex and decentralised organisations.
