Outline
• CSMEP vision, objectives, work products• How StreamNet has helped so far• Future help required from StreamNet in fy07-09• What performance measures matter to whom?
3
CSMEP Vision
A coordinated effort to collaboratively improve
the quality and consistency of fish monitoring data,
and the methods used to evaluate these data,
to answer key questions relevant to
major decisions in the Columbia Basin.

Coordination with PNAMP
• Circulate and coordinate work plans• Have overlapping membership• Develop consistent goals and objectives, but
distinctive work products• Different RME initiatives by area and type• Conduct joint workshops
6
CSMEP Objectives
• Serve M&E needs of federal, state, tribal, intergovernmental entities
• Inventory, assess and make available existing fish monitoring data
• Design improved M&E methods• Implement and evaluate pilot M&E approaches• Work towards consistent, reliable systemwide M&E

CSMEP/StreamNet work products example clients
• Metadata on fish monitoring (StreamNet critical) federal, state, tribal entities that monitor fish
• Evaluations of data, & alternative M&E designs for: – Status & Trend ( NOAA, TRT, BiOp Remand RME)– Harvest ( TAC, U.S. v. OR harvest managers) – Hydro ( U.S. Army Corps, BiOp Remand, AFEP)– Habitat ( Lemhi pilot project; restoration managers)– Hatchery ( Ad Hoc Supplementation Group, ISRP)
• StreamNet funding is very important for many CSMEP tasks in fy07-09 (see handout)

What performance measures are important?
• See backside of handout• For each VSP criterion:
– What performance measures matter, to whom?
– At what scale they should be measured?
– At what scale do they need to be applied for decisions?
– How can monitoring efficiently serve multiple functions?
16
Summary of Database Management Needs (from OR participants in CSMEP)
• Provide “pointers” to existing datasets, facilitate use by a regional audience [Meta data catalogs – hyperlinked]
• Provide “independent” QA/QC on captured data. [Needs Input from regional managers outside StreamNet]
• Provide guidance for data structure, protocols, metrics, etc. to improve local datasets, optimize use in regional forums.
• Provide up to date documentation of data including empirical data and “secondary” or derived data from analysis
