    Apperception

Do you still remember about growth anddevelopment? Why their can be happen?

THEY CAN BE HAPPEN CAUSED BY INCREASINGNUMBER AND SIZE OF CELL

Is the root and stem having many cells?

What is the name of group of cells that have same

    shape and function?TISSUE

    Lets see the figure below

There are threemain part ofplant that isROOT, STEM,

    AND LEAF

When you abstracting a root of plant, you will

    see things like figure below

    Lets indentifyingits main parts

    a. Main rootb. Lateral rootsc. Root hairs

When we make a cross-section of root (left) and

stem (right) we will found some parts as figure

    below

    Identifying thesame parts between

root and stem1. THE EPIDERMISis the outer part of plant organ. Its function is

to protect the inner part of the plant. Root hair, stomata, andgland can found in this tissue

    2. THE CORTEXis a filler of space between epidermis and vasculartissue. An example of this tissue is the parenchyma. Parenchymcells have a thin wall. Inside the parenchyma cells you can findplastids such as chloroplast and starch. Other examples of cortextissue are collenchym and schlerenchym. Both of these tissueshave a thick wall. The schlerenchym has a wall usuallystrengthened by lignin. The collenchym has a function ofsupporting the young plant and the schlerenchym has a functionof supporting the old plant. The cortex as known as a simpletissue that has a population of cells with the same structure andfunction.

    3. THE VASCULAR TISSUE fill the inside part of the

plant organ. In the inner part of the vascular tissue, you can still find the parenchym called pith. You canfind two tissues in the vascular tissue named the xylemand phloem.

The position of the phloem is on the outer side of thexylem

    a. The function of xylem is transport water in plant

    b. The function of the phloem is to transport food in

    the plant

Now. Imagine if a plant doesnthas a root. What

will happen with that plant ?

Letsdiscuss it in your group to find

out the answer as the function ofplant root

  • 8/11/2019 1. Structure and Function of Plant Tissue

    10/15

The functions of plant root are

To make the plant can stand upright

To absorb water, minerals (nutrient and organic

compound) from soil. To help the respiration process in plant

In some certain plant, root also has the functionas the place to store nutrient reserve. Itsexamples is cassava.

Then, Imagine if a plant doesnt has a

stem. What will happen with that plant ?

Letsdiscuss it in your group to find

out the answer as the function ofplant stem

  • 8/11/2019 1. Structure and Function of Plant Tissue

    12/15

The functions of plant stem are

To support the upper parts of the plant such asleafs, flowers, and fruits.

To transports water and mineral from root to leaf.

It also transport food, as the result of thephotosynthesis in the leaf to other parts of plant.

In some certain plant, stem also has the functionas the place to store nutrient reserve. Its examplesare sago and carrot.

    Reflection

Can you identify the differences between thestructure of stems and roots?

Can you identify the differences between thefunction of stems and roots?

Can you differentiating between xylem andphloem?

Can you explaining the function of root andstem?
