HC is working to ensure that all schools have identified a principal or interim principal/managing assistant principal candidate for the 2016-2017 school-year. 16 total school leader appointments have been approved prior to August 9th
for the 2016-2017 school year.

Start of School Transportation Call Center reopens Aug 10th.
MTA Student Transportation
Student transit S-Pass will be delivered to all schools by August 15th for the Month of September.
All students will be able to ride the MTA to and from school for free for the first week of school.
OneCard will begin roll out in October.
Goal: 95% of students enrolled in Elementary or Elementary/Middle Schools will be scheduled in at least 6 classes by COB Friday, July 29. 8/8 – 42% of students enrolled in Elementary or Elementary/Middle Schools are fully
scheduled. 47 of 133 schools have met this benchmark. Note: training on new system concluded 7/25.
Goal: 95% of students Middle, Middle/High, or High will be scheduled in at least 6 classes by COB Friday, July 29. 8/8– 84% of students in Middle, Middle High, or High Schools are scheduled in at least 3
classes. 8/8 – 76% students in Middle, Middle/High, or High Schools are scheduled in at least 6
classes. 31 of 47 schools have met this benchmark. Fifth-year seniors are exceptions to the 6 class schedule requirement School Scheduling Support Team provides support; open labs available 3-4 days per week
through 8/19.
ILEDs are reaching out to schools that are not in compliance.

Cooperative agreements in place with Baltimore Police Dept (BPD) and
MTA Police Dept (MTAPD).
During the first two weeks of school, all middle and high schools will be monitored by BPD staff to ensure safe pathways for students to and from school.
Baltimore City Schools Police (BCSP), BPD and MTAPD will continue to collaborate monthly to discuss safety concerns for all departments.
School Police will focus supports at the seven (7) major transportation
hubs to ensure safety around identified locations.
BCSP/MTAPD/BPD continue to operate an afternoon watch center to quickly respond
to any incidents that may occur.
School Police and community collaboration is also a crucial component
of student safety.
Safe Schools Tip Line is available for anonymous calls at 410-396-SAFE.
Community organizations and partners are involved in gang mediation, community
conferencing, mentoring and improving school climate across the district.
Facilities Maintenance & Inspections (FMI) is working to ensure a healthy, clean, and safe school buildings for students, teachers, staff, and visitors for the 2016-2017 school year
There is a 10 week cleanliness schedule for school readiness which was provided to principals in the leadership action update.
Facilities and Academics have worked collaboratively to ensure that schools with summer program sites will be ready for school opening
The are 33 sites with district sponsored summer programing (schools receive support for additional school cleaning at these locations)
There are 41 construction projects in schools over the summer. FMI have been working
in collaboration with Design & Construction to ensure that these projects will not impede with school openings.
More detailed facilities updates will be provided at the Operations Committee meeting on August 16th.

Staff: All cafeterias to be staffed with manager and food service workers according to the volume of meals served. Staff training scheduled for August.
Menu planning and food orders: Student taste tests conducted in spring, new products meet 70% or greater student approval. Menu finalized, orders for first 2 weeks of school placed in June. Deliveries on track to be received during the week prior to opening.
Equipment: All cafeteria equipment has been checked, repaired, installed, and removed as needed.
All meals – breakfast, lunch, after school snack, supper, and the fresh
fruit and vegetable program – are free to students! Parents are invited
to sample new menu items at their child’s Back to School night.
Schools have ordered instructional supplies and materials based on
their individual school needs.
Schools receiving students from closing schools have received re-
allocated furniture, textbooks, technology, and other instructional
materials from those schools.
Access to district provided resources, including the Amplify assessment
and Agile Mind software, will be in place and ready for use prior to the
first day of school. District curriculum resources will be available prior
to August 15th.

All back-to-school publications are delivered to schools in both English
and Spanish. This year’s packets include:
A welcome letter from the CEO
Several required forms and informational flyers, including the student contact information form and a flyer about the new Campus Portal
2016-17 family calendar, handbook, and code of conduct
The communications team is coordinating a back-to-school awareness
campaign. Information will be shared via social media, website
postings, robocalls, video PSAs, e-newsletters, and broadcast and print
media outlets, providing students and families with information they
need to get ready for August 29th and get the school year off to a great
start.
