Well done to Year 4H who wowed the audience with an amazing assembly onThursday. The pupils showcased their Topic of the week, with the theme being the Romans:using action and songs to teach the audience what it would have been like to live likea Roman – including, the way they fought in battles – re-enacted with our pupils’sword fight, what type of food they ate and also what living under Roman rule waslike. RGS pupils voted that it might be a good idea to live under a similar rule to that ofthe Roman Empire. Also in assembly today – several proud pupils received their ‘Pen Licence’ for theirhandwriting achievements. To be awarded this certificate, pupils must consistentlyreach and maintain a certain level in handwriting skills. Many parents attended the assembly to show their support and thoroughly enjoyedthe entertainment. A huge thank you to the pupils for sharing their learning with usand to the teaching staff for their hard work since the start of the academic year.

Budding Politician

Arwa (Year 9) aspires to be a politician and has created the websitewww.politicalteen.net. Her aim is to simplify some current political affairs, for teens andyoung people, as she believes they need to educate themselves about issuesdetrimental to their future. Please take a moment to look at her website which really is fantastic. I believe it will notonly be informative to our younger pupils, but also inspire them.

News from Early Years

We have had another wonderful week in Nursery Seahorse class! The children havecontinued to form lovely friendships and have shown a particular interest for servingice cream in their self-made ice cream parlour in our home corner. In Literacy, we have been focusing on the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Thechildren have loved listening to this story and it has been great to hear them join inwith repeated refrains such as, “Someone’s been eating my porridge”. They alsocreated lots of actions as we wandered through the Three Bears’ house. This week, the children created their very own version of the story. Together they created,‘Goldilocks and the Three Monkeys’, where Goldilocks wandered through themonkey’s castle and ate up all of their coco pops! They then painted story maps thatwe have been referring to, to help us retell the story. We jumbled up all of our paintingsand then put them in order to help us retell what was happening. The children havealso loved the counting opportunities within this story. We painted our very ownnumber labels to label Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear and Baby Bear. We also labelledtheir chairs, beds, bowls and spoons to make sure we had enough for all of the bears! In the construction area, the children have challenged themselves to build small, medium and large chairs and beds for Baby, Mummy and Daddy bear. Also this week, the children have been doing lots of mark making and we had so muchfun during our ‘Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle’ party. I am so proud of the progress thatall of the children in our class are making. Super work Seahorses! Miss Toal, Nursery Seahorses

News from Key Stage 2

Do you recycle? This is a question that Year 5 pupils will be asking many of you thisweek! ‘Going Green’ is the topic we will be focusing most of our studies on this halfterm. In Year 5, we encourage the pupils to think of solutions to issues regardinglittering, plastic waste and other environmental factors. We hope that educatingchildren today, regarding these issues, will make a difference to our planet in thefuture! In Year 5, we will be trialling the use of Pobble in the classroom. We will be using ourICT lessons to focus on exploring the Pobble website. Through the use of Pobble, wecan read and analyse other children’s work from all around the world. We can thengive feedback to these pupils about their work while focusing on the positive aspectsand then implement new ideas into our writing. In Science, we are becoming ‘mad scientists’ and using this topic to investigate andexperiment with different, reversible and irreversible materials. We conducted aninvestigation into the water cycle last week and in the coming weeks we will be lookingat boiling, melting and freezing. We will also have the opportunity to make our veryown ice cream! And of course, the opportunity to try it! Finally, please can I remind parents to read at any given opportunity with their children. This supports children within all aspects of their education and it also encourages alove of reading. Thank you for your continuous support this half term. Mrs. Newsome, Year 5N

News from Key Stage 3This week, Year 8 took an educational visit to the Slavery Museum, at Bin JelmoodHouse, Mshreib. The trip helped highlight to the pupils, the spirit of humanperseverance, while acknowledging the cumulative social, cultural and economiccontribution of formerly enslaved people to the development of human civilization. Museum artefacts were displayed to create an historical context and describe thevarious forms of slavery, stretching from ancient Mesopotamia to serfdom inEurope during the middle ages. We hope that the pupils enjoyed the opportunity todevelop their cultural awareness and historical knowledge. Thank you to Mrs.Fletcher for organising the trip. In other news, we are now up to 11th place on the Managahigh league tableMath’s competition, along with other COBIS international schools. This is afantastic achievement in the short space of time since RGS entered thecompetition. Well done RGS, let’s keep on climbing the league table! Thank you for all your support and enjoy your weekend. KS3 Teachers

Football

On Sunday, Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Dukhan for their first football QPPSSAtournament. The boys have been training very hard during ECAs, so we travelledwith plenty of excitement ready to compete and enjoy playing in the tournament. There were 14 other schools in attendance and RGS were placed in a tough groupwhere only the top two would qualify for the semi-final. The Year 6 team drew theirfirst match 0-0, but were the better team and were unlucky not to score. The Year5 team won their first match 3-0 and played superbly as a team. Notableperformances from this match were Bilal, Taha and Sultan. Unfortunately, as youknow, the weather turned against us for the match on Sunday, therefore, thetournament was cancelled just at the very start of the match. It was reallydisappointing as the boys have a very good chance of competing for the trophyand medals. Hopefully, the tournament will be rescheduled and I will informparents if and when, the new date is agreed. Mr. Temple
