EPGA Monthly Goat Droppings April 2015 Hello everyone Show season has begun. So fun to see all my goatie friends again. April brings a lot of new life to my farm baby chicks baby goats and baby cows. Hopefully everyone holds tight so I can attend the meeting. I thought I might try and dig out a few pictures from past shows if anyone else wants to bring some to share that would be great. Maybe think about sharing a memorable pygmy goat story I can think of a couple good ones I'll have to decide if I'm brave enough to share them. I have a couple other ideas for the up coming meeting but I'll keep them to myself for now. We still need a committee member for showmanship contact Robin if you want to participate. If anyone has ideas for education at future meetings let me know I'd love some input. Micro Chip: Staci still has some for sale so does Cheryl. Staci has contacted Elsie and Millie for more information on the data base. Staci has an account and is working on the information. Staci was told that animals must be NPGA registered to be microchip. Staci is going to contact Dori to find out more information. Staci has to get approvals and do an interview with USDA to be able to do the paperwork. Tattoos will be too long to do on animals. This came about because of sheep and cow contamination and to track any disease. Anything chipped after the 14th needs the new chip. Staci will continue to work on Data Base. Chips can be purchased from the club. Members would call Staci for a for a chip(s) then she will need scrapie ID number, premises ID number and your herd name. Staci will track from our information – Point of Origin.

Paul asked if Staci decided to no longer do this in a few years can someone else take it over? Answer is yes. The person would have to do the steps and interviews. Staci will continue to pursue the chips for the club. Progeny was closed last year. Staci will have chips on hand and run the data base for the club. The USDA will give her spread sheet.

New Business: Debbie said we are covered for insurance for the March show. Right now the fairgrounds want the insurance certificate at least 2 weeks ahead of the show. For future March shows the Snohomish County Risk Management group will request the certificate one month ahead of time. Our insurance runs out before the March show date and the insurance will not send the certificate early. Insurance date cannot be changed because the insurance is for multiple goat clubs. If we change the dates for the March show can we get the fairgrounds? This is the best insurance to cover animals. It will need to put in the newsletter that if we had to change the dates for the March show what should the date be moved to? Will the fairgrounds be open? A Jeffers book was passed around for a group order October show is Amy and Robin. They have the judges Next month’s meeting is scheduled to be at Kim Cruz house on April 11th with social at 5pm meeting at 6pm May 16th Debbie Bond 6pm social/7pm meeting June 13th Paul and Robin Swanner 6pm social/7pm meeting July 18th Kristy and Nancy Shurvinton 5pm social/7pm meeting August – No Meeting Colleen owes goat $ Meeting Adjorn 7:13 Debbie 1st Staci 2nd

Hi everybody, Hope everyone had fun at the goat show. I liked goat shows but Birdie hated them. Many of my readers were there and they wanted to shake my foot for some reason. I never did figure that one out. The last time we went I was having fun head butting with the guy in the next pen, but Birdie cried the whole time! She didn’t quiet down until we got into the car. At home she complained about the show for days. Strangers touch you all over and there isn’t even a talent contest. It’s all about looks! She was going to start a “Ban Goat Shows “ campaign but Melanie came with some peanuts and she forgot about it We had a rough couple of weeks this month. Rebel stopped eating and drinking and wouldn’t leave the garage. Melanie called the vet. The rest of us were hiding behind the table on the other side of the deck when the vet was looking at him. When the vet tried to give him medicine and he started yelling, Birdie rushed across the deck in his defense. Renegade and I thought, “You go girl’” as he huddled in safty. Brodie, our puppy was very worried about him. When the dogs came outside, Brodie always found Rebel first thing. One day he was between the garage and deck, and Melanie was trying to get him inside by calling, “Come get cheese”. He stood there looking back and forth between the garage and the deck. Rebel of cheese?? She finally picked him up and took him inside. Rebel’s better now and back to his old self but Brodie still checks on him. Even though Brodie can be annoying and always smells our behinds, he’s a nice little dog. Brodie and Renegade still try to play. They stare at each other. Then Brodie runs away and runs back. Brodie, “Chase me”. Renegade, “…What?” They stare some more. Then Brodie runs away and back. Brodie, “Chase me”. Renegde, “…What?” Then they stare. They do this until Brodie gets bored and runs away. Melanie’s bios for the programs for the plays are so boring that I’ve taken over writing them for her. The April show is about grandparents so I’m dedicating Melanie’s performance to my Grandma Joyce. Well that’s all for now. Enjoy the spring and good grazing.
