Be thoughtful, be silent, and be reverent, for this is the House of God. Before the service, speak to the Lord; during the service,

let the Lord speak to you; after the service, speak to one another.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of Your Love. Send forth Your Spirit and we shall be created and You shall renew the face of the earth. O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in Your consolations, through Christ our Lord, Amen. PROCESSIONAL HYMN ……………………………………..…….. 472 CPWI (TUNE 439 CPWI)

I could not do without Thee O Saviour of the lost, Whose precious Blood redeem’d me At such tremendous cost. Thy righteousness, Thy pardon Thy precious Blood, must be My only hope and comfort, My glory and my plea. I could not do without Thee, I cannot stand alone, I have no strength or goodness, No wisdom of my own; But Thou, beloved Saviour, Art all in all to me, And weakness will be power If leaning hard on Thee. I could not do without Thee, For O the way is long, And I am often weary, And sigh replaces song: How could I do without Thee? I do not know the way; Thou knowest, and Thou leadest, And wilt not let me stray.

I could not do without Thee, O Jesus, Saviour dear; E'en when my eyes are holden, I know that Thou art near. How dreary and how lonely This changeful life would be, Without the sweet communion, The secret rest with thee! I could not do without Thee; No other friend can read The spirit's strange deep longings, Interpreting its need; No human heart could enter Each dim recess of mine, And soothe, and hush, and calm it, O Blessèd Lord, but Thine. I could not do without Thee, For years are fleeting fast, And soon in solemn oneness The river must be passed; But Thou wilt never leave me, And though the waves roll high, I know Thou wilt be near me, And whisper, "It is I."

For neither is there any god besides You, Whose care is for all people, to whom You should prove that You have not judged unjustly…

16 For Your strength is the source of righteousness, and Your

sovereignty over all causes You to spare all. 17

For You show Your strength when people doubt the completeness of Your power, and You rebuke any insolence among those who know it.

18 Although You are

sovereign in strength, You judge with mildness, and with great forbearance You govern us; for You have power to act whenever You choose.

19 Through such works You have taught Your people that the

righteous must be kind, and You have filled Your children with good hope, because You give repentance for sins.

Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God.

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us.

19 For the creation

waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; 20

for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the One Who subjected it, in hope

21 that the creation itself will be set

free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

22 We know that the whole creation has been

groaning in labour pains until now; 23

and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.

24 For in hope we were

saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen?

25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with

patience.

Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God.

MASTER, SPEAK! WHAT HAST THOU TO SAY TO ME?

GRADUAL HYMN …………………………...………………………………………….. 530 CPWI Master, speak! Thy servant heareth, Waiting for Thy gracious word, Longing for Thy voice that cheereth; Master! let it now be heard. I am listening, Lord, for Thee: What hast Thou to say to me?

Speak to me by name, O Master, Let me know it is to me; Speak, that I may follow faster, With a step more firm and free, Where the Shepherd leads the flock, In the shadow of the rock.

Page 3: 07 17 JUL 2011 - Pentecost5

Master, speak! Though least and lowest, Let me not unheard depart; Master, speak! For O, Thou knowest All the yearning of my heart, Knowest all its truest need: Speak! and make me blest indeed.

Master, speak! and make me ready, When Thy voice is truly heard, With obedience glad and steady Still to follow every word. I am listening, Lord, for Thee: Master, speak! O, speak to me!

+ THE GOSPEL + Reader: The Lord be with you. Response: And also with you. Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43. Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

24

He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field;

25 but

while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away.

26 So when the plants came up and bore

grain, then the weeds appeared as well. 27

And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, “Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?”

28 He

answered, “An enemy has done this.” The slaves said to him, “Then do you want us to go and gather them?”

29 But he replied, “No; for in

gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 30

Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ”

36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His

disciples approached Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”

37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the

Son of Man; 38

the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one,

39 and the

enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

40 Just as the weeds are collected and burned

up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 41

The Son of Man will send His angels, and they will collect out of His kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers,

42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire,

where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears listen!

Reader: This is the Gospel of Christ. Response: Praise to Christ our Lord. POST-GOSPEL HYMN ………………..……………………………….. “ANCIENT WORDS”

Ancient words ever true, changing me and changing you, We have come with open hearts, O let the ancient words impart

Holy words of our Faith, handed down to this age Came to us through sacrifice, O heed the faithful words of Christ. Holy words long preserved, for our walk in this world. They resound with God's own heart, O let the ancient words impart.

Lord, the light of Your love is shining, In the midst of the darkness, shining; Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us, Set us free by the truth You now bring us; Shine on me, shine on me. Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory; Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. OFFERTORY HYMN - 7:00 AM ………………………………………………….... 564 CPWI Will your anchor hold in the storms of life, When the clouds unfold their wings of strife? When the strong tides lift and the cables strain, Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul Steadfast and sure while the billows roll, Fastened to the Rock which cannot move, Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.

Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear, When the breakers roar and the reef is near; When the surges rage, and the wild winds blow, Shall the angry waves then your bark o’erflow?

Will your anchor hold in the floods of death, When the waters cold chill your latest breath, On the rising tide you can never fail, While your anchor holds within the veil.

Will your eyes behold through the morning night The city of gold and the harbour bright, Will your anchor safe by the heavenly shore, When life’s storms are past for evermore?

Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the Sceptre, His the Throne; Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone; Hark! the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus out of every nation hath redeemed us by His Blood. Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how: Though the cloud from sight received Him, when the forty days were o’er Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I Am with you evermore?” Alleluia! Bread of Angels, Thou on earth our Food, our Stay; Alleluia! here the sinful flee to Thee from day to day; Intercessor, Friend of sinners, earth's Redeemer, plead for me. Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. Alleluia! King eternal, Thee the Lord of lords we own; Alleluia! born of Mary, Earth Thy footstool, Heav’n Thy Throne: Thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh, our great High Priest. Thou on earth both Priest and Victim in the Eucharistic Feast. Alleluia! Alleluia! Glory be to God on high; Alleluia to the Saviour, Who has gained the victory; Alleluia to the Spirit, fount of love and sanctity; Alleluia! Alleluia! To the Triune Majesty.

572 CPWI

Be still, my soul! for God is near! The great High Priest is with thee now; The Lord of life Himself is near, Before Whose face the angels bow. To make thy heart His lowly throne Thy Saviour God in love draws nigh; He gives Himself unto His own, For whom He once came down to die.

He pleads before the mercy-seat; He pleads with God; Ere pleads for thee; He gives thee bread from heav’n to eat, His Flesh and Blood in mystery. I come, O Lord! for Thou dost call— To blend my pleading prayer with Thine To Thee I give myself—my all, And feed on Thee and make Thee mine.

612 CPWI

O Jesus, Blessed Lord, to Thee My heartfelt thanks for ever be, Who hast so lovingly bestow’d On me Thy Body and Thy Blood.

Break forth, my soul, for joy, and say What wealth is come to me to-day! My Saviour dwells within me now; How blest am I! how good art Thou!

POST COMMUNION PRAYER ………………………………………………..…... BCP p148 THE BLESSING ……………………………………………………………………………. BCP p150 THE DISMISSAL ……………………………………………………….…………………. BCP p152 RECESSIONAL HYMN – 7:00 AM ……………………..………………............ 367 CPWI

Fill Thou my life, O Lord my God, In every part with praise, That my whole being may proclaim Thy being and Thy ways.

Not for the lip of praise alone, Nor e'en the praising heart, I ask, but for a life made up Of praise in every part: Praise in the common things of life, Its goings out and in; Praise in each duty and deed, However small and mean. Fill every part of me with praise: Let all my being speak Of Thee and of Thy love, O Lord, Poor though I be, and weak.

So shalt Thou, Lord, receive from me, The praise and glory due; And so shall I begin on earth The song for ever new. So shall each fear, each fret, each care, Be turnèd into a song; And every winding of the way The echo shall prolong; So shall no part of day or night Unblest or common be; But all my life, in every step, Be fellowship with Thee.

RECESSIONAL HYMN – 9:30 AM ……………………..……………….... “LIFT HIM UP”

How to reach the masses, men of every birth, For an answer, Jesus gave the key: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, Will draw all men unto Me.”

Lift Him up, Lift Him up, Still He speaks from eternity: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, Will draw all men unto Me.”

Oh! the world is hungry for the Living Bread, Lift the Saviour up for them to see; Trust Him, and do not doubt the words that He said, “I’ll draw all men unto Me.”

Don’t exalt the preacher, don’t exalt the pew, Preach the Gospel simple, full and free; Prove Him and you will find that promise is true, “I’ll draw all men unto Me.”

Lift Him up by living as a Christian ought, Let the world in you the Saviour see; Then men will gladly follow Him Who once taught, “I’ll draw all men unto Me.”

Give Honest Praise… Call Each By Name Leaders must practice giving honest and sincere praise and appreciation for their followers wherever the opportunity presents itself. “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated,” wrote William James. Other writers agreed with him when they observed the following: “Kind words do not cost much… yet they accomplish much.” “I can live for two months on a good compliment.” “It is the greatest possible praise to be praised by a man who is himself deserving of praise.” Giving praise can be likened to injecting life into a dying person. Persons work better when encouraged rather than criticized. An employer can glean more from his employees when negativity is decapitalized and the strengths of the employee are focused on most. There are hidden treasures in every one of us; seek to find them in the people who surround you and learn to appreciate then for who they are; even with their shortcomings. People feel better about their contribution when you recognize them individually by calling them by their names. Here are some of Jesus’ examples: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things.” “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.” “He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”” Remembering the name of an individual can imply affection, so leaders ought to make a special effort in this regard. In our ministries we set ourselves up for failure by not knowing and calling people by name. The same hold true in our offices, classrooms and wherever else we might be planted to work and play. In a nutshell, people are so proud of their names that they strive to perpetuate them at any cost. We should be aware of the magic contained in a name and realize that this single item is wholly and completely owned by the person with whom we are dealing and nobody else. Even God, the creator, recognizes this important fact. He says: “I have called thee by name.” You can do the same with people you meet each day. It tells them you think affectionately of them. In our churches there is a serious deficit in us knowing one another. Even here, I have discovered that we have to meet the challenge to call each and everyone by name. Our family life and health care ministry is making a deliberate attempt to assist with this. The once per month family Eucharist and all the ingredients that will go into it is to help us overcome. Read again the notice from this ministry, in the bulletin, and if necessary make your comments for improvement. Please help me as I struggle now to call each by name. Let us commit, now, to making light conversation with each other whenever the opportunity presents, especially after church service. Corner someone new each time.
