  Seattle has lost three straight games following a stretch of 8 wins in 9 games (May 31-June 9). 

  Mariners and Yankees tied the season series 3-3, with each team sweeping on the road …Mariners finished with a.500 or better season record vs. the Yankees for the first time since 2007 (5-5).

  YANKEES MANAGER JOE GIRARDI:

On getting the sweep:

It’s good. They swept us at home in the two trip series. But it feels good to come out here and win three games. It’s not aneasy place to win. Obviously they pitch very well and we had not scored a lot of runs off of them. We scored more than wedid at home for sure, so that’s really good to see.  

On Whitley’s start: 

Chase has been consistent with his stuff. He doesn’t beat himself, he doesn’t walk people. He’s doing the little thing. He’smixed in an outstanding change-up with his fastball and slider. He gets ahead in the count. We only saw him as a reliever

 – we weren’t sure what we had as a starter. But he’s done a really good job.

On Whitley not walking anybody:

It’s really difficult. That’s not easy to do because there’s going to be days where you’re just off a little bit. But he’s beenreally consistent.

On catch made at center field wall by Ellsbury:

Great catch. We made a lot of great catches tonight in the outfield. That’s a big point in the game –  we’re up 6-2 and if hedoesn’t make it, maybe it’s 6-4. I’m not sure if it goes over, but it would have at least scored a run.
