description

This session will give you an overall view of OneDrive for Business, the features it exposes to our end users and what kind of IT planning is required to allow users to synchronize their data to the cloud. It covers the options that exist regarding the management of identities and how single sign-on can be achieved. Once that is in place, we will look at how we roll OneDrive for Business out across our organization and how we can link it to our existing SharePoint 2013 on-premises environment.

What is OneDrive for Business Evolution of Shared and Personal MySite concepts A OneDrive for Business site is a SharePoint Site

Collection in your enterprise SharePoint Online tenant with a 1TB storage quota

One OneDrive for Business site is created for each individual user

Individual users manage the content and features of their own personal OneDrive for Business sites

In general, all of the same features and capabilities for any SharePoint site collection also work on OneDrive for Business sites

Private by default, simple permissions management

Cloud Identity• Single identity in the cloud with no affinity to on-

premises Active Directory• Provided through Azure AD

DisadvantagesNo affinity with on-premises identityRequires separate username and passwordDoes not support hybrid workloads

AdvantagesLow TCORapid deployment and provisioningNo new infrastructure requirements

Directory Synchronization Integrates with Azure AD replicating on-premises users, groups, and contacts

Provides use of on-premises user name across environments Enables password hash replication with Password Synchronization

Password Synchronization

Disadvantages• Does not provide Single Sign-On

experience• Requires additional authentication• Does not support custom 2 factor

authentication mechanisms deployed on-premises

• Does not enable policy based access control decisions

• Single Point of Failure

Advantages• Low barrier to entry• Reduces TTS (Time to Solution)• No changes needed to existing AD

servers• Extends Directory Synchronization to

provide Same Sign-On experience

9

ADFS

Disadvantages• Infrastructure investment required• Complex configuration• Low ROI in limited support scenarios

Advantages• Provides Web SSO (enables seamless

partner federation) & mitigates partner user account management

• Claim mapping support• Extensible• Enables broader hybrid workload

adoption and support (I.e. Search, BCS, etc.)
