Contributor Thanks Thanks to Dave Challinor, Dai Davis, Dave Riche, Ben Yaffe, Jack Connor, Print Plus, Martin Benson, Tom Hutton, Adam Valentine and Gainsborough Trinity for the production of this programme.

Well done Dan! AFC Fylde’s Dan Bunce has been ranked among the best in the country at a major award ceremony.

The club groundsman was highly commended by the FA at the National Groundsman of the Year ceremony at St George’s Park.

Bunce was competing with groundsman from both Football League and Non League and had a great experience at the headquarters of English football.

He said: “For me to be highly commended by the FA is a fantastic achievement, and it is great to keep the clubs name out there to show how much we are progressing on and off the pitch. I’m just hoping I can keep producing a pitch that keeps getting noticed and keeps us in the running again next season.

“It was a fantastic experience to visit St George’s Park and a great insight to also be shown round all the facilities and the pitches the site offers.

We Need Your Support AFC Fylde would like to say thanks to each and every one of you who have attended the first two games of the season away at Solihull and on Tuesday evening against Hednesford here at Kellamergh Park. Today’s game is our second National League North home fixture of the season, our third game of the season in total, and we thank you for coming today to support The Coasters.

DAVE CHALLINOR BREAKS DOWN THE ACTION FROM THE LAST FEW DAYS

CHALLINORFirstly a warm welcome to Steve, his staff, players, officials and supporters of Gainsborough Trinity FC to Kellamergh Park for today’s Vanarama National League North encounter.

It’s been a mixed bag for us at the start of the season with a win and a loss and we’ve certainly not hit our peak yet but there were real positive signs in the first half on Tuesday evening. Tuesday was an important night for us, we needed to kick start our season and bounce back from the disappointment from Saturday.

We were bound to tire towards the end of the game having played over three quarters of Saturday’s game with only ten men but we’ll be in better shape as a result. It’s always difficult when you’ve dominated so much in the first half of a game to keep that up, especially when the game should have been all over but at only two goals to the good, the game was still alive. We need to produce another performance today in order to pick up a positive result.

Following on from Saturday but not solely as a consequence of Saturday, we made the difficult decision to move Richie Allen on from the club. It wasn’t one that was taken likely but it was essential for us to move forward.

It does, in ways mirror the Kevin Pietersen debate with English cricket in which people will be split as to whether it is the right or wrong decision. Regardless, a decision had to be made and I had to be the one to make it. We’ve a close knit dressing room with different characters, what we are though is quite a quiet dressing room internally as a group of players. When the dynamics of that dressing room is being affected by other individual’s behaviour or attitude and warnings not being heeded, then we have to act. No individual is bigger than the club and we stand by our decision and move on.

Whether that means we bring an extra body in to fill Richie’s place I’m not sure as of yet. We’re hopeful of having Matty Hughes back in action very soon and he will undoubtedly improve us.

Enjoy the game and continue to get behind the lads,

Cheers

Chally.

WORK is about to begin on putting the steel works up on the West Stand at Mill Farm.

After months of work preparing the land and installing foundation pads into the ground, the key stage of the building process is about to begin.

This will give supporters the chance to see the actual grand scale of the main building in the Mill Farm development.

Drainage work has been continuing this week around Mill Farm. Stadium construction partners Warden have been carrying out the lengthy process which began at the attenuation pond from the rear of Mill Farm taking it across the field and linking up with the spine road which goes around the site.

Tarmac is still being laid around the main entrance to connect up to the spine road at the Wesham roundabout. Also around the main entrance, the main footpath is being kerbed.

UPDATE

WORKING: Mill Farm continues to progress with the contractors working on drainage and steelworks

I’d like to offer a warm welcome to everyone here today for our second home game of the league season.

We welcome Gainsborough Trinity to Kellamergh Park this afternoon as we look for our second win of the season.

After a disappointing start to the season against Solihull, we got back on track during the week with a win against Hednesford. If there’s going to be a better side than Solihull this season, then I think they’ll win the league because they were very, very good. We couldn’t get going against Solihull and obviously the Richie Allen situation wasn’t ideal but we’ll move on and carry on moving forwards.

In both games we’ve played so far, we’ve actually played some good stuff and that came out more on Tuesday night when we won 2-0 against Hednesford. They were very one dimensional and we offered more and what matters most is that we got the win. It could have been three or four but we’ll take that and move into today’s game against Gainsborough with a win and

some confidence.

It’s a sad situation that Richie Allen finds himself in. He’s a crowd pleaser on his day, but I guess he could be classed as a ‘maverick’. You can’t have individual players upsetting the dressing room. Everyone needs to be signing from the same hymn sheet, the dressing room is an important place and everyone needs to be on the same page. He’s been a fantastic servant to the club and is the top scorer of all time, so we wish him well and we hope he does well at his next club.

On a positive note, Sam Finley has made a good start to his Fylde career. The manager has done well to get him in and he’s a good passer, a real creator of chances. As far as I’m concerned, he’s going to be a crowd pleaser and he looks a really good signing.

Also, it’s good to see young players coming through and we had Cory Bent coming off the bench on Tuesday night. The step up to the Conference North is a big step but Cory would well make it. He’s got plenty of pace and can run in

behind opposition defences which is what you need sometimes. I hope he manages to break through into the first team picture on a more regular basis and that goes for a few of the young lads. They all have potential but it’s about not rushing them and making sure they get the right footballing education.

I hope you all enjoy today’s game, and hopefully we’ll come out of it with a second win of the season.

Dai.

1. What are your main duties at the club?I am the Assistant Media Officer at the club and currently I write the match report for the website as well as several local and national newspapers. I also assist with social media for the club with Facebook and Twitter posts and every other game, I will conduct post-match interviews with the manager and a player or two.

2. When did you join the club and when did you first hear about them?I joined the club at the beginning of April, 2013. I started to assist Chris Park and for the 2013-14 season it was just the two of us. Last season, Jack Connor joined the media team and this season has seen Adam Valentine join too. I first heard about the club a few months before I joined.

3. Which club do you support?I support the not so mighty Bolton Wanderers. I was a season ticket holder from the age of seven until the age of 18 and I saw my club play in Europe a few times. Sadly, that is a thing of the past and the club won’t be back there for a long while!

4. Who is your favourite player past or present who has played for your club?My all time favourite Bolton Wanderers player is Ivan Campo, and not just for his afro haircut. In the days when Bolton were a top ten Premier League club, Campo was the holding midfielder and the superglue that allowed everyone else to go forward and his passing was exceptional.

5. What is your most memorable game whilst at Fylde? The most memorable game for me has got to be the play-off final victory over Ashton United at the end of the 2013-14 season. A great ending to a great season. Other contenders were beating Chorley 4-1 at the Reebok Stadium in the Lancashire Trophy Final and the 10-0 demolition of Droylsden a couple of years ago.

6. What was your best memory from last season?Best memory from last season is probably travelling down to Plymouth and back in a day. Despite losing, we set off at 7am and I didn’t get home until midnight. It was a cracking day out though.

7. What games are you most looking forward to this year?I’m looking forward to the two games against Chorley around Christmas and New Year, but i’m sure if you asked that question to anybody else, they would say the same thing.

8. If you could play alongside any player who would it be?I would love to play with Lionel Messi. Despite his growth problems, he’s still taller than me, but he’s a phenomenal footballer and the best ever in my eyes.

9. What would be your dream job?My dream job would be to become full time Media/Press Officer at a Premier League club. I’ve always been interesting in reporting and journalism, and football is what I know best (although some would disagree) so it’s natural that that is what I want to do.

10. Which football ground would you like to visit that you haven’t already?I never got to go to Burnden Park which I will forever be disappointed about. In terms of a current ground i’d like to visit, Nottingham Forest’s City

Ground is probably up high on my list. I’ve done the majority of Premier League grounds and my favourite stadium is the Nou Camp but i’ve been there twice, so Nottingham it is.

It’s been a busy time for me and for Mrs B (Sarah) who has been promoted from secretary’s wife with portfolio to help to official Assistant Secretary with permission to go “what have I done”.

The reality at a club like ours, as with many clubs, is that while the first team gets the exposure a lot has to go on with the other teams under the wings of the overall banner of AFC Fylde. For us it means that between Sarah and I we have five different teams in five different leagues all with different rules (so much for FA Standardised Rules) and all with different registration forms and criteria and a myriad of deadlines.

For those that don’t know we have the following teams to look after in addition to the firsts; The development squad which in old money are the reserves although at the Coasters they are very much a young side with the odd first teamer thrown in when returning from injury, they play in the Lancashire Football League (LFL) and started their season at Padiham on Wednesday night.

The Academy which will now be based at Blackpool & the Fylde College will play in the Football Conference Youth Alliance (FCYA) on a Wednesday. Oddly that league is anything but restricted

to the National League sides and is a huge undertaking and will see the youngsters make trips to Gateshead amongst others.

The Academy will then also play at a weekend in the Lancashire Sunday Football League, this is a great opportunity for them as it is a local(ish) league that has grown to the point where the Youth side is as large as the Senior side set up and should provide them with a good challenge and one that will feel quite different to the FCYA.

Finally we have the Youth side who will continue to play in the North West Youth Alliance (NWYA) at a weekend this league has provided good value for money for those under 18’s who do not wish or are not able to be part of the Academy setup, they continue to get games at a good standard and allows them to

continue their progression.

In addition to the leagues these junior sides play in they will also compete in the Lancashire U18 Cup and as two separate sides and just maybe they will get to meet at the latter stages as they did a couple of years ago for bragging rights. So it has been busy, if not manic, of late and many a late night spent getting forms completed and sent in or submitted to websites where they have embraced modern technology and allow online registration but we are hopefully coming out of the other end relatively unscathed.

Speaking of the Development Squad, Sarah and I went to the Padiham game in our new roles and were impressed with the attitude of the youngsters on show. Despite losing 4-1 they worked hard to the final whistle and kept their approach upbeat throughout. Padiham put out what I suspect was a side with some experienced first team players in it and it was interesting to see how much they did not want to lose to our youngsters. The Coasters coped well with a sometimes physical approach from the opposition and certainly one where the referee must have had sore ears at the end from all the negativity thrown at him. A bad five minutes at the start of the second half

sealed their fate but honestly I thought they were well worth a point but hopefully the mistakes made will be learned from and results will go in their favour going forward.

The side had nobody over the age of 19 playing and were skippered by Joey Mullen who took his time in and around the first team and used it well to try and lead from the front. Joey remains the youngest player to both make an appearance for and score for the first team but there are a couple of these youngsters who may have the opportunity to break his records!

Tuesday night may not have been our best performance but it kick started the season after a bad day at the office on the opening day, much has been

written about that opening day and I will not add to it here. The season will be long and hard and I personally think no one will run away with the title and in fact I think it will be won with less points than last season, I can see a lot of teams taking points off each other in what I suspect will be a highly competitive division.

It was good to see Sam Finley get off the mark and also undoubtedly frustrating for Dom Collins, Matty Hughes and Matt Urwin for different reasons but all the new players will have an opportunity to make their mark during a long season and I am sure all of them will be ready and more than able when called upon.

Finally congratulations to a vital cog in the Coasters machine, Dan Bunce came away from the

Groundsman of the Year awards with a “highly commended” and ultimately lost out to two teams who had full time groundsmen and returned to the Football League in Barnet and Bristol Rovers and a team with two groundsmen in Barrow.

One of the first comments made to me on Tuesday was from the Hednesford Secretary who commented that the pitch looked Football League standard and his team would have no excuse if they didn’t play well. I think we all recognise what a great job Dan does but like all the volunteers if you feel they deserve a kind word then feel free to say so nothing is more gratifying than knowing your work is appreciated by those who pay to watch the team and follow us with the passion starting to be seen at Kellamergh Park.

The club was established in 1873 as Trinity Recreationists by Reverend George Langton Hodgkinson, the vicar at the Holy Trinity Church.

In 1889 the club were founder members of the Midland League, which they won in 1890–91.Trinity finished as runners-up the following season and again in 1895–96. In 1896 the club applied for membership of the Football League, and were elected after finishing third in the ballot, ahead of existing members Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra. The club’s first season in Division Two of the League saw them finish seventh, but a gradual decline in form saw them finish in the bottom half of the table every season until 1904. In 1901–02 Trinity finished bottom of the division, but were re-elected. In 1904–05 the club finished sixth in Division Two, their best performance in the League. In 1911–12 Trinity finished bottom of Division Two for a second time, and failed to be re-elected, receiving just nine

votes to the 27 received by newly elected Lincoln City. The club returned to the Midland League, finishing third in 1912–13 and second in 1913–14, after which they unsuccessfully applied for readmission to the Football League. When the Football League created a new Third Division North in 1921, Trinity applied for membership, but were again unsuccessful. The club won the Midland League title in 1927–28, and the following season defeated Football League opposition in the FA Cup for the first time since losing their League status, beating Crewe 3–1 in the first round, before losing to Chesterfield in the second round.

In 1931–32 they beat Crewe again in the first round, before losing 5–2 at home to Watford. In 1937–38 Trinity beat Port Vale in the first round, before losing to fellow non-League club Yeovil & Petters United. Another Football League team was beaten the following season, when Trinity knocked out Gateshead in the first round, before losing to Doncaster Rovers.

The club won a third Midland League title in 1948–49, remaining in the league until it was disbanded in 1960. They spent a single season in Division Two of the Yorkshire League, before returning to a reformed Midland League in 1961. Trinity won their fourth Midland League title in 1966–67, before becoming founder members of the new Northern Premier League in 1968. The club applied to join the Football League again in 1975 and 1976, but received only a single vote on each occasion. When the Northern Premier League added a second division in 1987, Trinity were placed in the Premier Division, where they remained until becoming founder members of the Conference North in 2004. In 2011–12 the club finished fourth, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. After beating Halifax Town in the semi-finals, Trinity lost the final 1–0 to Nuneaton Town. In 2012–13 the club reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy for the first time, losing to eventual winners Wrexham.

MEET THE

SQUADSTEVE HOUSHAM - MANAGERHousham was appointed Player/Manager of Brigg in 2007. In May 2011 he quit his post at Brigg and took up the role as youth team manager at his hometown club Gainsborough Trinity where he briefly worked under manager Brian Little, before replacing Little as caretaker manager in August 2011. Following five wins out of five in caretaker charge at The Northolme Housham was appointed as full time manager on 12 September 2011.

In his first season in charge Housham led Trinity to the Conference North play-offs after finishing 4th. They defeated F.C. Halifax Town over two legs before, despite being favourites they were beaten 1-0 by Nuneaton Town in the final. During the 2012–13 season Trinity reached the semi-final of the FA Trophy having defeated Barrow in the quarter finals. The Blues were drawn against Conference National promotion contenders Wrexham and despite drawing level they were beaten 3-1 away in the first leg. The following week Trinity came from behind to win 2-1 in the second leg, but despite applying a lot of pressure in the final stages they were unable to get a third goal to take the tie into extra time. Now in his fifth season at the helm, Housham (pictured below) is looking forward to the new season with renewed optimism as he targets a top half finish.

DARRYN STAMP – ASSISTANT MANAGER/ STRIKERDarryn Stamp is a legend in the non league game and to quote him has had “too many clubs, but not as many as Jefferson Louis.” He ranks the best moment in football when he scored the goal for Chester in the 2003/4 season which won the league. His worst moment was during his time at Halifax where he was a player with another year on his contract when they went into liquidation. Bouncing back from that Stamp has had spells with Guiseley, Northwich, Stevenage and this is his second spell at Trinity.

JAN BUDTZFormer Doncaster Rovers man Jan Budtz is back at Trinity for a second Time, Budtz is a fan favourite who dominates his area. Extensive league experience, where he has played for Wolves, Hartlepool and Oldham.

JONATHAN HEDGETalented goalkeeper, Jonathan joins the club from AFC Telford United, with whom endured a difficult season last year. Now vying with Jan for the number one spot at Trinity, Hedge arrived at the Northolme via North Ferriby United. Previous clubs include Southport, Tamworth and FC Halifax where he gained England C honours.

NICK BIGNALLThe powerful frontman was signed by manager Steve Housham having impressed in the penultimate pre-season friendly, having provided a tireless performance against Sheffield United. Nick will be targeting a regular starting spot as he looks to hit the goal trail. Former clubs include Reading and Basingstoke, as well as gaining valuable experience on loan at several clubs, including Southampton and

Stockport.

DOM ROMAClub Captain Dom Roma has extensive non-league experience having spent time at Harrogate Town and Boston United. Although raised through the youth team ranks at Sheffield United, Roma is a keen supporter of their cross city rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

JOSH LACESince joining Trinity in 2013, Josh (pictured below) has progressed from being the Under 19 captain to a regular first team player, where he plays at left back. Josh, who was released by Scunthorpe United as a youngster, harbours aspirations to make it back into the Football League.

JAKE PICTONBefore joining Trinity, the former Scunthorpe United trainee, had been here on loan but travelled via Ilkeston, Harrogate Town and Frickley Athletic to join us on a permanent basis. Despite his tender years, during his time at Harrogate, he was frequently handed the captain’s armband. Interestingly Jake’s father also has played for Trinity during the 1982/83 season.

ADAM QUINNQuinn joined the club from Bradford Park Avenue & he has had spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Barrow, Crawley Town, Forest Green, Alfreton, Darlington and Worksop. He is most remembered for his time at Halifax where he helped them reach the playoff final, which they lost.

MATT WILSONA summer signing from North Ferriby United, the versatile former Alfreton Town man can play at both centre back and in the centre of midfield. One of a trio of impressive signings made by Housham, Matt’s decision to sign for Trinity was a no-brainer, having recently secured a teaching job in the area.

CHRIS SALTStarting his career at Sheffield United, Chris joined Trinity from Worksop Town. A young, powerful centre back. Sheffield born and bred, his favourite footballing memory so far is playing at Hillsborough in the Sheffield United reserves vs Sheffield Wednesday reserves derby.

JONATHAN D’LARYEATough tackling D’Laryea is an instantly recognisable face on the non-league circuit, having started out with his brother at Manchester City, D’Laryea dropped into the non-league game, where he has amassed many appearances, turning out for Harrogate, Alfreton & Eastwood, as well as having a previous spell at the Northolme, between 2011 & 2013

LIAM DAVISTalented midfielder, Liam Davis, is a former Grimsby Town youth team player who was part of the team who won the Puma

Youth Alliance Cup away at Queen’s Park Rangers. He was released by Grimsby when he was 18. Following this low point in his career, he went on to play for Armthorpe Welfare, Selby Town and Brigg Town before joining Trinity in June 2013.

SIMON RUSSELLUnderstandably, Russell is seen as a legend at Trinity already. Starting his career for Hull City before spending a number of seasons at Kidderminster Harriers, he also counts York City, Tamworth, Cambridge United, Lincoln City and Alfreton Town as former clubs. He joined Trinity in January 2013 and made an immediately impact scoring on his debut in the FA Trophy against one of his former clubs, Tamworth.

CHARLIE BINNSIndispensable, Charlie Binns started his career at York City before moving on Tadcaster Albion, Biggleswade Town, Eynesbury Rovers and most recently Histon FC. He impressed in the pre-season friendlies playing in midfield but he can also play at right back and has since gone on to become an integral part of Steve Housham’s engine room.

JAMIE YATESEqually at home on both flanks, popular wide man Jamie Yates returned to Trinity at the back end of the 2014-15 season from North Ferriby. The Sheffield born flyer started his career at Rotherham United, before dropping into non-league football where he played for Boston United before moving to the Northolme and scoring in a win over Conference Premier side Tamworth on the way to a Trophy Semi-Final appearance versus Wrexham. Now back with the Blues, Jamie has high hopes ahead of the new season.

NATHAN JARMANExperienced Jarman, completes the trio of former Ferriby players. Signed in the summer for from rivals North Ferriby United where he earned a winners medal following victory over Wrexham in last seasons’ FA Trophy final, Nathan comes with an impressive track record! Numbering Grimsby, Alfreton, Corby and Chester (as well as a spell on loan at Worksop in 2007) Nathan has scored goals wherever he has been – and will be looking to continue this at Trinity.

MARC NEWSHAMMarquee signing, Marc Newsham (pictured below), arrived at Gainsborough from Lincolnshire rivals Boston United in the close season with a flurry of publicity. The unveiling of the prolific Newsham (scorer of over 100 goals in four seasons for the Pilgrims) unwittingly posed with the club scarf, bearing the wrong spelling of Gainsborough. A mistake that went viral leading to great exposure for both club and player.

SAMFINLEY

AFC Fylde’s newest signing Sam Finley spoke to Media Officer Ben Yaffe about his hopes for success with the Coasters.

What made you decide to join AFC Fylde?Chally has been after me for a few years now to be honest. He’s been speaking to me regularly while I’ve been at TNS in Wales. I think it was time for me to get away from there and get back into the English league system. The club has great aspirations to go up the leagues and I want to be a part of that and be a part of a successful club on and off the pitch.

Are you looking forward to playing this afternoon at Kellamergh Park against Gainsborough Trinity?Of course, yeah. All the lads have moved on from the defeat last weekend and there’s nothing we can do about it. We have moved on with the win against Hednesford and today against Gains-borough which are both at home and I’m looking forward to playing on a good pitch. We’ll try and put in some good performances to get the right results that we need and put smiles on the fans faces.

Your debut for AFC Fylde ended in defeat. Obviously it wasn’t a great result, but what did you make of your own performance? Not the best really. I tried to work hard and tried to get something back in the second half after

the gaffer said stay tight in the first half. It just wasn’t to be for any of the lads and I know we’ll do much better in the next couple of games. We tried to nick a goal or two in the second half but to be honest the game just got away from us in the end and unfortunately we were beaten.

Everybody was full of optimism before the game but Fylde came away with nothing. What went wrong? We were undone by set pieces and the gaffer wasn’t too happy about it. We covered them in training a few days before the game but we’ve not managed to stop conceding from set pieces because we were doing that last season too. Josh hit the post in the second half but apart from that we didn’t really create enough clear cut chances so that was disappointing.

Have you got any personal targets for your first season with the club?No not really, I don’t really set myself any personal targets. I want to do as best I can and help the club win the league.

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman boys and girls, on behalf of The AFC Fylde Community Foundation I would like to welcome you to this afternoon’s National League North Fixture between AFC Fylde and Gainsborough Trinity FC.

Although it has been a slightly turbulent start to the season, The work off the field by The AFC Fylde Community Foundation, has been tremendous, delivering a range of community integration programmes throughout the wider community.

As previously discussed in programmes throughout pre-season, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation are delivering a range of community integration and physical activity programmes throughout summer 2015, engaging with Fylde Coast Residents between the ages of four to 89, through a range of diverse delivery methods.

In addition to delivering activities to over 100 people each day, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been working tirelessly to develop new and exciting programmes with partners, benefitting more residents each day!

The Foundation strengthens ties with Lancashire Police and Crime CommissionerOver the past couple of months, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been working closely with Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw and The Fylde Community Safety Partnership, developing a new and unique rehabilitation project. As many of our supporters are already aware, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation delivered a pilot ‘Writing Wrongs’ young offender community rehabilitation project, which saw The Foundations rehabilitation team delivering weekly support classes for young people who are or have offended. This programme brought about fantastic results for many of the young people who took part in the project not only not reoffending, but also taking up part

time employment.

Given the success of the initial ‘Writing Wrongs’ pilot project, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been able to strengthen its links with both the Police and Crime Commissioner and The Fylde Community Safety Partnership. Through the strengthening of this partnership, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been able to develop an intelligence led community rehabilitation programme, which will see The AFC Fylde Community Foundation working with both adults and young people delivering a unique and person centred support project. The programmes, which will be delivered as two separate projects, which cater for each individual’s needs, and provide them with the opportunity, and work closely with a personal development tutor who will be tasked with supporting and integrating both young people and adults into the wider community, breaking the cycle of offender re-offending, which costs the state a great deal of money each year.

The Foundations Director, Tom Hutton is overjoyed with the newly reformed partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioners Office, and said the following:

TOM HUTTON DISCUSSES THE GREAT WORK OF THE AFC FYLDE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Working in partnership with:

COMMUNITYCOUNTS

Official community sponsor:

‘I am extremely proud to be working closely with both the Police and Crime Commissioners Office and The Fylde Community Safety Partnership, developing and delivering this new and stimulating reintegration programme. The Foundations specialist reintegration team will work closely with a range of offenders, who have recently been released into the community following imprisonment. Each participant will receive the opportunity to work with their personalised tutor, undertaking a range of tasks which will support their integration into the wider community, supporting them into a life of positive choices.’

The programme, which will commence in September 2015, will form part of The Foundations award winning ‘Get on Board’ programme, which will see partners such as Lancashire County Council, Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group and Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioners Office working towards establishing and more progressive community.

Free Community Sports Activities ContinueThe AFC Fylde Community Foundation are pleased to announce that its successful and engaging free community sports programme will be continuing thanks to a grant of £10,000.00 from The Big Lottery Fund. Delivered at the following locations; Kirkham Memorial Park, Bridges Playing Field, Ashton Gardens St Annes and Hove Road Part St Annes, The AFC Fylde Community Foundations community sports development team will be continuing to deliver free

community sports activities to young people between the ages of 12-18.

The Foundations Community Sports Coordinator Matthew Agnew, is extremely happy about the fantastic inward investment, which has been provided of late. He said, ‘The AFC Fylde Community Foundation are committed to continuing to deliver its free community sports programmes, and thanks to the Big Lottery Fund, we will be able to continue this. The support shown by The Big Looter Fund cements The AFC Fylde Community Foundations position as the area’s leading outreach provider, and we expect this to long continue.’

REVIEWAfter back to back wins to start the season Stockport County travel to AFC Telford United looking to extend their winning run.

Stockport have beaten both Boston United and FC United of Manchester so far whilst Telford have had a slow start losing 3-0 at Lowestoft and drawing 0-0 at home to Curzon Ashton.

Alfreton Town host Brackley with the Reds having picked up four red cards in their opening two games of the season. A late draw at Bradford Park Avenue was followed up by a 1-0 defeat against Lowestoft whilst Brackley beat Harrogate Town but then lost at Nuneaton Town on Tuesday. Lowestoft could go top with victory.

Having lost both of their opening two games Boston United will be hoping to bounce back by beating new boys Curzon Ashton. Curzon have had a solid start to life in their new division drawing with both Corby Town and AFC Telford United but today’s game will be difficult.

Another side who have lost both their games so far are Chorley. Having lost at home 3-2 to Nuneaton they were beaten 4-0 at North Ferriby on Tuesday. They travel down to Corby today.

Two wins out of two has given Tamworth fans hope for a good season and they travel to FC United of Manchester. FC United have lost both their games so far at Gloucester and at home to Stockport so will be wanting to get a win infront of their home fans today but the Lambs will be strong opposition.

After their defeat on Tuesday night at Kellamergh Park Hednesford Town will be hoping to bounce back away at Harrogate Town, who won against Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday. Both sides have a win and a loss in their first two games so the winner of this one is guaranteed to be near the top by this evening.

Having recruited a large number of players during the summer it seems to be paying off so far for Solihull Moors. A 3-0 win over the Coasters last week followed by a 4-1 win at Boston United puts them top of the table ahead of a trip to North Ferriby United, who themselves recorded a big win over Chorley on Tuesday.

It’s been a successful return to the Conference North so far for Nuneaton Town. Marlon Harewood’s early goal saw off Brackley on Tuesday and a 3-2 victory at Chorley saw them start

their season off with a win last week. They play Bradford Park Avenue who have drawn both their games so far with Alfreton Town and Stalybridge Celtic.

Stalybridge Celtic face Gloucester City at Bower Fold. Stalybridge have picked up one point from their first two games whereas Gloucester have only played once at the time of writing as they face Corby Town in their second game. Gloucester won their opening game of the season at home to Northern Premier League champions FC United of Manchester.

After losing several important first team players Lowestoft Town have had a good start to the season beating both AFC Telford United and Alfreton Town, who were both in the Conference Premier last season. They travel to Worcester City who drew with Gainsborough last Saturday and then followed up that result with a 2-1 defeat at home to Tamworth.

This section of the programme explores past AFC Fylde results week by week. This time, we look back on the 3-0 defeat to Stalybridge Celtic from the 2014-15 season...... Stalybridge Celtic 3-0 AFC Fylde (12/8/14)

AFC Fylde’s emphatic start to the season came to a grinding halt as Stalybridge Celtic snatched all three points in a crazy five minute period at Bower Fold.Ben McKenna scored the first with a cross-come-shot on 64 minutes and by the 69 minutes it was 3-0. Former Fylde winger Aidan Chippendale scored the second before Liam Dickinson rubbed salt into the wounds with the third to stun Dave Challinor’s side.

The Coasters started the game strong as Michael Potts almost caught Lewis King off his line, trying to beat him from 35 yards but he sent his effort wide. Potts was again unable to beat King from closer in four minutes later with the Celtic keeper gathering comfortably.

Dickinson had the home side’s first shot on goal but fired a free kick over the bar before Paul Ennis had a great chance to give

the hosts the lead but fluffed his lines. Joe Booth came even closer to scoring when he had a free header on goal from Luke

Denson’s pin-point cross but King was able to collect at the second attempt after fumbling at his near post.

It was an even start to the second half as McKenna and Danny Rowe failed to find the target a minute apart in an end-to-end opening.

McKenna opened the scoring for the home side with a cross-come-shot which somehow beat everybody, before Chippendale added the second two minutes later with a coolly timed shot past former team-mate Hinchliffe. Within the space of a five minutes period, it was 3-0 when

Dickinson headed McKenna’s cross into the empty net after catching Hinchliffe off guard. The Coasters were clearly shell-shocked and struggled to gain any momentum that they had in the first half and despite Sam Staunton-Turner clearing a corner off the line four minutes from time it was too little, too late for any chance of a come-back.

One win and one defeat from the first two games of the season sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Last season was extremely successful for AFC Fylde both on and off the field, but we actually started the season with two defeats from the first three games.

This season however, we will be looking to make it two wins from the first three games, whilst also finishing the season in a similar, if not better position in the league.

There’s plenty of optimism around Kellamergh Park after a good pre-season and even more so after a comfortable win over Hednesford Town on Tuesday night.

This season, we will continue you bring you in-game coverage of all AFC Fylde first team games home and away with mainstream social media sites Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

We’ve covered the first two league games of the season, as well as the whole of pre-season too and we’ll be looking forward to going to Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday evening to bring you coverage of the game through various media outlets.

As well as social media, we’ll be bringing you post-match interviews with Coasters boss Dave Challinor after every game along with news and views from players and staff. In addition to the match report, which is usually available to view on the club website about half an hour after the completion of a game, there will be special features on players and staff throughout the season along with some new media initiatives including fan polls, more fan interaction and social media giveaways.

As most of you will now be aware, the match day programme has had its layout and design changed for the coming season. We hope you like the changes and we would appreciate some kind of feedback if possible. If you see any of the AFC Fylde media team or Dave Riche, drop them a line about whether you like the new programme or not and what improvements you would make. We are always keen to hear what real fans have to say.

In terms of personnel, the media team this season, for the time being, consists of Ben Yaffe, Jack Connor, Adam Valentine and match analyst Iain Hunter.

If you have any questions or queries about anything media related, come and ask one of

Jack, Ben, Adam or Iain and we’ll be happy to answer and give information.

Finally, we received some good news earlier in the week. Chris Park, who is a key member of the club’s media team, has been released from hospital after a prolonged period of illness and is now recovering well at home. Hopefully we’ll see Chris back here sooner than later and everybody at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.

We’re all looking forward to what we hope to be another great season and hopefully we can bag a win this afternoon against Gainsborough!

MATCHDAY hospitality at AFC Fylde is something we are keen to focus on this season as we look to maximise our current facilities ahead of the move to Mill Farm.

You may have seen the plans for the new complex with a range of hospitality boxes, function rooms and a restaurant which are all very exciting and will be on a par with standards seen at Premiership clubs – if not better.

But for this season we are at Kellamergh Park where you can still gain a fantastic match day experience.

Let me tell you about it.Do you know that on a match day you can dine in the lounge from as little as £30 plus VAT per person?

This gives you a welcome drink, three course meal, match day programme and parking, and a seat inside our sponsor’s lounge – which offers a pitch side view of all the action.

When the game kicks off, you have the option of watching the game from the comforts of the lounge, or sitting in our reserved sponsor’s area. At half time come back inside for tea, coffee and cakes or sample something from our paid bar before the second half begins.

At full time, there is more food and refreshments and the man of the match joins you for a chat and photos.

We grade out games at bronze, silver and gold which affects the hospitality price, so please ask for details of rates per match.

Why not get a group of you to come and sponsor a game which includes all of the above plus benefits such as an advert and editorial in the match day programme, a signed framed photo of your group, PA announcements throughout the day and your name on the entrance to the ground. We can also do match ball or programme sponsorships and tailor the package to your exact needs.

The food is excellent and all home cooked - so are you feeling hungry?

Come and see me today or contact me during the week and let me book you in.

Thanks for taking time to read today’s page and remember if you can recommend a friend or a business to come and sponsor us, then please get in touch.

Our facilities at the new ground will take all of the above to another dimension, but come and see what we have to offer now – I think you will be very impressed.

NON-LEAGUEIT’S good to be back isn’t it?For some today will be your first competitive match of the season. For others, it could well be your third or fourth!

With no international tournament this summer, the regular season makes a welcome return, although it couldn’t have just been me that has been enthralled by England’s Ashes victory!

Pre-season is done and dusted, and the first week of competitive action certainly didn’t disappoint – apologies to those who have had to wait in the Evo-Stik NPL leagues.

Bradley Bubb lit up the opening weekend in Vanarama National League South with his strike from the halfway line for Oxford City against Chelmsford, that is an early contender for goal of the season.

It was a strike that we’ve all tried in Sunday League. Bubb shot straight from kick-off, just after City went behind, leaving Clarets’ keeper Ashley Timms scrambling as the ball hit the underside of the bar on its way in.

And while some will say it had a stroke of luck about it, Oxford captain Darren Pond revealed

it was a move that had been planned in training.

Pond said: “It was funny actually because our goalkeeping coach said to me about shooting from the halfway line.

“I told him I can’t kick it that far, so I had to tell Brad to do it and he couldn’t have hit it any better to be fair.”

It’s not just wonder goals that got The NLP’s reporters tapping their keyboards after the first weekend.AFC Fylde have transfer listed forward Richie Allen after his sending off in the Coasters’ opening day defeat at Solihull Moors.

The club’s all-time leading scorer deliberately handled to give the hosts a penalty and the lead, leading to the popular forward being put up for transfer.

Fylde manager Dave CHallinor commented: “Richie is a fans’ favourite, has undoubted

ability and on his day is a match winner but like many players of quality, has his flaws.

“He’s had countless opportunities and warnings and unfortunately he’s failed to heed these and this has begun to effect other players in the dressing room.

“Our dressing room is close knit and it is our responsibility as a management team to keep the harmony in there. He’ll be a loss on the pitch but no one is bigger or more important than the club.”

And for Scott Rendell, the season is already over with the Woking striker being ruled out for the rest of the campaign after suffering a knee injury in the Cards’ opening day defeat at Tranmere Rovers. So there is plenty to t`alk about, even so early in the season. Long may it continue!

Bradford Park Avenue play their home matches at the Horsfall Stadium, a converted athletics track with a large main stand painted in the club’s traditional white and green colours. The Coasters recorded a crucial 1-0 win at the end of last season thanks to Danny Lloyd’s late goal.

Tameside StadiumWho play there? Curzon AshtonOpened: 2005Capacity: 4,000When do we play there? 29th AugustLast Season’s Result: 3-1 Defeat vs FC United of Manchester (FA Trophy)

Curzon Ashton have played at the Tameside Stadium for a decade now and this season play in the Conference North for the very first time. The Tameside Stadium boasts two large stands on opposite sides

of the pitch and FC United of Manchester used the ground for the second half of last season whilst their Broadhurst Park home was being finalised.

Gloucester ply their trade at Cheltenham’s Whaddon Road ground after their traditional Meadow Park ground was

damaged by floods. One of the biggest grounds in the Conference North, it is a tough ground to visit and the Tigers won their opening home game of the season on Saturday against FC United of Manchester.

for over 80 years. Pilgrims fans make for an intimidating atmosphere and the Coasters lost 3-1 there last season in early November. The ground has four stands with three seated and one terrace.

Steel ParkWho play there? Corby TownOpened: 2011Capacity: 3,893When do we play there? 17th OctoberLast Season’s Result: N/A

The Coasters will travel to Steel Park for the very first time in October to face last year’s Southern League champions Corby Town. Built for the start of the 2011-12 season, Steel Park was built adjacent to their previous home. Corby lost just three times at home last season on their way to the title.

CNG StadiumWho play there? Harrogate TownOpened: 1920Capacity: 3,800When do we play there? 24th OctoberLast Season’s Result: 4-1 Victory

The CNG stadium provided one of the most memorable away days for Coasters fans in recent history.

A large away following coupled with a terrific 4-1 comeback win took the title race down to the very last day of the 2014-15

season. A Danny Rowe hat-trick helped seal an impressive victory and Coasters fans will be looking forward to re-visiting the CNG in October.

North StreetWho play there? Alfreton TownOpened: 1959Capacity: 3,600When do we play there? 7th NovemberLast Season’s Result: N/A

Recently relegated Alfreton will be a stern test for the Coasters and a victory from North Street will be seen as a very good result indeed. North Street has two seated stands with one standing. Depending on future success the Reds are looking to leave North Street and build a new home.

Grange LaneWho play there? North Ferriby UnitedOpened: 1934Capacity: 2,700When do we play there? 21st NovemberLast Season’s Result: 1-1 Draw

The small but atmospheric Grange Lane is home to last season’s FA Trophy winners North Ferriby United. Tucked away down a narrow pathway, Grange Lane is probably the most similar ground to Kellamergh Park and the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in November last year, with Liam Tomsett grabbing Fylde’s goal.

Keys ParkWho play there? Hednesford TownOpened: 1995Capacity: 6,500When do we play there? 5th DecemberLast Season’s Result: 2-0 Defeat

Celebrating it’s 20th year, Keys Park is often said to be one of the finest modern non league grounds. The Coasters didn’t enjoy their trip to Staffordshire last season losing 2-0 in early March and has become somewhat of a fortress since their move. The record crowd for a match at Keys Park was against FC United of Manchester infront of 4,412 people.

Victory ParkWho play there? ChorleyOpened: 1920Capacity: 3,550When do we play there?26th DecemberLast Season’s Result: 2-2 Draw

The long serving home of our local rivals Chorley, Victory Park has almost 100 years of football played there. It was the scene of last season’s Conference North play-off final which they lost 3-2 to Guiseley and was the scene of a stunning late equaliser from Dion Charles in last season’s match in mid March.

The NortholmeWho play there? Gainsborough TrinityOpened: 1850’s (Used for football since 1884)Capacity: 4,304When do we play there? 9th JanuaryLast Season’s Result: 0-0 Draw

One of the oldest sports grounds in the country, The Northolme was originally used as a cricket ground before Trinity moved in to use it as a football ground in 1884. It has a tall main stand with 504 seats and the Trinity fans make for a good atmosphere. Last season’s draw here was a frustrating one as the Coasters had hit the woodwork twice.

Crown MeadowWho play there? Lowestoft Town

Opened: 1894Capacity: 3,000When do we play there? 16th JanuaryLast Season’s Result: 1-0 Defeat

Lowestoft’s small but atmospheric Crown Meadow stadium has been their home for over 120 years. Last year the Coasters suffered their second defeat of the season at Lowestoft in August going down 1-0. They kicked off their season at Crown Meadow with a 3-0 win over much fancied AFC Telford United.

New Bucks HeadWho play there? AFC Telford UnitedOpened: 2003Capacity: 6,300When do we play there? 30th JanuaryLast Season’s Result: N/A The impressive modern New Bucks Head was originally built for Telford United before the club went bankrupt and supporters formed the new club. It has seen the club win promotion from the National

League North in both 2011 and 2014 and the large crowds regularly seen at Telford help to create an intimidating atmosphere for visiting sides.

Last Season’s Result: N/A

After dropping back into the Conference North in May, Nuneaton Town will be looking to bounce back and will make their home a fortress this season. Nuneaton moved into the ground formerly known as Liberty Way in 2007 replacing their traditional home Manor Park.

Occasionally in football, a player will emerge seemingly out of nowhere and take to the big stage. Whispers in the crowd will circulate and you here statements like ‘he’s bagged a few goals… somewhere’.

That somewhere is of course non-league football. Over there years many players have taken the huge step to the football league and some have even reached the promised land of the Premier league. In non-league football talent may go untapped for years, until a scout from one of the big boys see’s that something a little bit special. Perhaps the most famous of these is Arsenal legend, Ian Wright. Wright, just short of his 22nd birthday was playing at Greenwich Borough when Crystal Palace scout, Peter Prentice happened to see him play.

Steve Coppell signed Wright in August 1985 and by 1989 the frontman had been instrumental in promotion to the top flight. Despite twice having to recover from a cracked shin bone, Wright continued to impress and starred as a ‘super-sub’ in the 1990 FA Cup Final. He forced extra time minutes after coming on before putting Palace ahead in the tie. The game ended 3-3 but unfortunately, Palace lost the replay against Manchester United 1-0.

Wright soon gained international honours and was renowned for his deadly striking ability. With a record of 117 goals in 253 starts over a six season spell, Wright became a legend at Palace. His exploits grabbed the attention of Arsenal, he signed for the Gunners in 1991 for a then club-record £2.5m. Wright scored on his debut and went on to win the golden boot in his first season with 29 league goals.

In just six short years, Ian Wright grew from non-league hopeful to Arsenal hero. An incredible achievement and something that players occasionally threaten to emulate. Charlie Austin is one such player, born around the

time Wright was guiding Palace to promotion, Austin has enjoyed an equally speedy rise through the divisions and into the Premier League. Until the age of 20 in 2009, Austin was playing non-league football. Swindon Town took a chance on the young forward and were rewarded with 31 goals in just 54 appearances. With such an impressive record, Austin moved on to Burnley and kept a decent goals ratio of one in every two matches for the Clarets. Impressed with his stats, QPR signed Austin for an undisclosed fee where; up until now he has scored 35 goals in 66 appearances. After QPR’s relegation last season. Austin is keen for a move back the big time and may have found a route with Newcastle reportedly showing an interest in the frontman.

Austin was included in Roy Hodgson’s latest England squad back in May. He was asked to join a fellow former non-league star Jamie Vardy, in the squad for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland and a Euro 2016 qualifier with Slovenia. While Austin did not feature in either match, ex Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy made his international debut as a second half substitute against Ireland.

Vardy can boast the most dramatic rise from the Conference North, making it from FC Halifax Town to Premier league and international fame in just five years. 31 goals in 36 games for local side Fleetwood Town triggered a move to then Championship outfit Leicester City. A non-league record £1m was the reported fee which could potentially rise to £1.7m with add-ons.

It just goes to show that if you’re good enough, you can make it to the big time. Hopefully we will see some Coasters players light up the Football League and beyond in the years to come.

Come on Coasters!
