Silence is kept for reflection.

Holy and merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against our sisters and brothers and against you. We cherish the values of this world. We cause others to stumble. The earth is wounded by our excess. Have mercy, O God. Forgive us, renew us, and raise us up on eagles' wings, that we may do your will with courage and delight. Amen.

Hear the voice from heaven: "You are my own, my beloved." God gives power to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Be cleansed, be healed, for in the name of + Jesus Christ, I declare to you the forgiveness of your sins and the revealing of God's reign. Amen. *GATHERING SONG I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light ELW#815 *GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. + + +WORD+ + +

FIRST READING: Deuteronomy 18:15-20

[Moses said:] The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you shall heed such a prophet. This is what you requested of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said: "If I hear the voice of the LORD my God any more, or ever again see this great fire, I will die." Then the LORD replied to me: "They are right in what they have said. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet, who shall speak to them everything that I command. Anyone who does not heed the words that the prophet shall speak in my name, I myself will hold accountable. But any prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, or who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded the prophet to speak—that prophet shall die." *GOSPEL ACCLAMATION p. 188 Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia. *GOSPEL: Mark 1:21-28

The holy gospel according to Mark the 1st chapter. Glory to you, O Lord.

Page 6: 01 Feb 2015 8x11CRUSHstorage.cloversites.com/trinitylutheranchurch9/documents/01 Feb 2015...Refrain: Kyrie eleison, on our world and on our way. Kyrie eleison, ev-‘ry day. vs. 1:

[Jesus and his disciples] went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, "What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMN OF THE DAY Healer of Our Every Ill ELW #612

*PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Called to know, love, and follow you, O God, we pray for the church, the world, and all in need.

A brief silence. Prophetic God, inspire your church to speak with authority and act with strength where the powers of evil are most oppressive and human hearts yearn for dignity and compassion.

Drive out the demons of greed and carelessness that wound creation through pollution and over use.

Send prophets of wisdom and courage to our nation. Move us beyond partisan divisions to a common search for liberty and justice.

Healer of our every ill, bring hope and solace to those who struggle with depression, anxiety, and fear. Set free those burdened by feelings of guilt, shame, and worthlessness. Visit the sick with your compassionate Spirit.

Strengthen the witness of preachers, teachers, and all who proclaim the gospel in the assembly and the witness of parish nurses, counselors, spiritual directors, and all who proclaim the gospel in their vocations.

Here other intercessions may be offered.

Eternal God, the saints listened to your voice and you freed them to live and love for you. Open our ears to hear you and follow their example of faith and courage.

Trusting your love and healing, O God, we commend to you all for whom we pray, knowing you will hear and answer, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
