Long haul truck driver who lost his legin highway accident

Etawah is situated on National Highway 2 linking New Delhi with Kolkota. It is part of the state of Uttar Pradesh, ruled by Samajwadi Party with Akhilesh Yadav as Chief Minister

Rajkumar Nai is one of Gupta Transport Company drivers. He has been working with this company for more than 8 years.Actually, he joined as a Kalasi/Cleaner and rose up in ranks in the same company.Guptas vouchsafes for his good conduct all along.

But…

His life went for a toss in June this year (2014). In a midnight accident near Etawah/Uttar Pradesh while ferrying material (ACC Cement) in Gupta Transport Company-owned truck, he met with an accident and lost his left leg below knees … and toes of his right leg also gone.

Lucky that he survived. What happened after the accident was the saddest part. The Guptas ‘dumped’ Rajkumar Nai in a government hospital, handed over a few thousand rupees to his family and vanished. Due to lack of adequate attention in the UP govt hospital, the patient and his family decided to shift him to a private hospital for better and quicker treatment on their own without any assistance from the fleet owner/motor malik.

This is NOT a government hospital, but a private one: J J Hospital on Farrukhabad Road, near Etawah – 80 km away from Rajkumar Nai’s Saidpur village in Auriya, Uttar Pradesh. Nothing is free. He has paid approx. Rs.140,000 towards his treatment. How? By raising loan from relatives and friends. Yes, the Guptas – owners and employers of Rajkumar Nai – never visited him while he was admitted in this hospital – probably fearing backlash.

Visited him at Saidpur village, Auriya district, Uttar Pradesh in mid-November to check his status.

Foursome family: Son Ramit, studying Class 8 in local school; Daughter Gowri; head shaven Rajkumar Nai and his wife Savita Devi.

His parents: tilling a small piece of land.

These few hutments belong to the family where parents and their wards co-exist. Rajkumar’s elder brother tills the land and takes care of the family while he was away trucking to earn and send money home.

Today, this family (parents, two brothers and their respective children) needs support following the big bread earner Rajkumar Nai having lost his leg and will be unable to return to truck driving and make good money.

KRK Foundation is donating this handicapped tricycle to enable Rajkumar Nai mobility while he is recuperating.

Ramesh Agarwal, Chairman, Agarwal Packers & Movers, is transporting the handicapped tri-cycle to Rajkumar Nai’s home at Saidpur village, Auriya district, UP, free of cost.

Ved Shukla picked up his pen to sign Rs.200 towards the rehabilitation of Rajkumar via Money Order form. By the way, Ved is the FIRST person to set the ball rolling.

These three long haul truck drivers working for CREDENCE LOGISTICS – (Left to Right) Anil Pandey, Brijendra Yadav & Suresh Singh have unhesitatingly signed up Rs.300 (collectively) .

80 plus Transport industry Bhishma Pithamaha Chittranjan Dass, ex-AIMTC Secretary General and now heading ACOGOA, fills up a Money Order Form for Rs.500 to be sent to Rajkumar.

Bantu Ram from Agra, my regular cab driver in city and long hauls (distributing fruit to truck drivers @ Sonepat, Haryana in mid-May at a dhaba) signs up to send Rs.100 via Money Order Form.

Brother in law Subba Raman (ex-Materials Manager, Blue Star) & his spouse retired high school teacher Padma) sign up Rs.500 Money Order.
