Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of the RC.It is located in the northwest of

the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain.

Population of the City of Zg is 1,107,623. It is the only metropolitan area in Croatia.

The first recorded appearance of the name Zagreb is dated to 1094, at which time the city existed as two

different city centers: eastern Kaptol and western Gradec. Gradec and Zagreb were united in

1851 by ban Josip Jelačić, who was credited for this, with the naming the main city square, Ban Jelačić Square

in his honour.

The city of Zagreb has a special status (it performs self-governing public affairs of both city and country).

City of Zagreb is political and administrative center of the Republic of Croatia with seat of Parliament, President and Government of the Republic of Croatia.

Parlament is situated on the St. Marks square, one of the famous arhitecture monumans in the city.

Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is the public transportation company (trams and buses).
