Bernalillo County’s Metropolitan Detention Center has approved an inmate breastfeeding policy that places it among a small group of jails and prisons nationwide offering inmates access to a breast pump and support.

Curry County won a State Court jury trial in a whistleblower lawsuit filed by Weston Peasnall, a former Curry County Corrections Officer.  Mr. Peasnall claimed that he was not allowed to change an incident report regarding alleged excessive force used against an inmate.  He claimed he was retaliated against, was demoted and constructively discharged from employment.  The jury found that Mr. Peasnall’s demotion was not based his request to change the report.  Attorneys Bryan Evans and Quincy Perales defended Curry County.

In preparation for the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2018 Annual Conference, held in Nashville/Davidson County, Tenn. from July 13–16, we invite NACo members to submit policy resolutions and platform changes to be considered by NACo's membership at the conference. All resolutions and platform changes must be submitted electronically (preferably as a Word document) via email to [email protected] by June 13, 2018. IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you plan to submit a policy resolution, you (or a designated representative) must appear in person at the steering committee meeting at the 2018 Annual Conference to introduce and explain the resolution.
