Emily ObermanPartner at Pentagram, USA

Emily Oberman was born in Yonkers, New York, and studied at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She began her career working with Tibor Kalman at his legendary studio M&Co., where from 1987 to 1993 she collaborated with Kalman to create ground- breaking work for Knoll, Wieden & Kennedy, Talking Heads and Bennetton’s Colors magazine. In 1993 Emily cofounded the design studio Number Seventeen with her partner Bonnie Siegler. She joined Pentagram’s New York office as partner in April 2012.

Emily is a multi-disciplinary designer whose work encompasses brand identity, motion graphics, publications, packaging, advertising and websites for clients that

include hotels and restaurants, publishers, film and television, and nonprofit institutions. Her design is notable for its intelligence, political commitment and sense of humor.

Emily’s work has been recognized by the AIGA, the Type Directors Club, and the Art Directors Club, among others. In 2004, she was awarded the prestigious Augustus Saint-Gaudens Award for distinguished alumni from her alma mater Cooper Union. She has served on the national board of AIGA and as president of its New York chapter. While on the AIGA board she was responsible for two national conferences on design for television, DFTV.001 and DFTV.002.

Emily has taught at the Cooper Union, the Yale University School of Art, and Parsons The New School for Design. She currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts.

Tommy LiFounder and Creative Director of Tommy Li Design Workshop, Hong Kong, China

Tommy is the brand designer/consultant for the generation renowned for his “Black Humor” and “Audacious Visual” designs. Spanning Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Italy, he is one of the few designers to have penetrated the international market.

Graduated from the School of Design in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he has been selected as a respectable individual in Artist of the Year Awards 1997; while ten years later, he is honored by his school as Outstanding PolyU Alumni. 2007, he has been presented a “Gold Pencil” award by The One Show in New York. 2008, he was awarded World Outstanding Chinese Award from United World Chinese and established the first creative oriented web radio station - “Radio dada” the same year. Tommy is one of the few designers who can carve out a quadro career in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan and Italy. He start his business in Osaka, Japan as early as 1993 and subsequently moved to Tokyo to co-operate with Ading Co. Limited in 1997 followed by published the “VQ Magazine” in 1999 which is the bilingual (English & Chinese) visual art bookazine in Asia. Among Chinese designers, Tommy Li is the only designer to be invited by the Japanese Municipal Government to

participate in “Kaido’s City 海都市 emblem” design project. “Agosto”, a best-selling

design magazine in Japan, has cited Tommy as the only graphic designer with potential to have an influential impact on Hong Kong in the next decade.

He has become a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale — a globally renowned alliance of graphic artist and designers) since 2005. Tommy Li’s has brought remarkable success to his major clients MTR Corporation & Kowloon-canton Railway (West Rail Division), Maxim’s Caterers Limited, Chow Sang Sang Holdings International, bla bla bra, Da Dolce, Dairy Farm Group (First Choice), Fiorucci, Honeymoon Dessert, Prosays’, Roberto Cavalli, Shanghai Watch, SLOWLY and Stage International Group etc.

In 1993, Olaf Stein co-founded Factor and specialized in branding projects. His work has been awarded numerous prizes in national and international competitions. He is a member of the German Designer Club, the Type Directors Club, New York and the Council for Forming.

Over 35 years in brand design, packaging, industrial design and marketing communications.
