Skega Rubber Mill Linings in the Ceramics Industry
Skega Mill Linings
Skega Mill Linings is a major business segment within Metso Minerals, worldleading manufacturer of equipment and sys-tems for construction-, mineral processing industries and materials handling.
Metso Minerals delivers high-performance mill lining systems designed to increase the profi tability of mineral processing operations.
Skega Mill Lining Systems are supplied within a total frame-work of expertise in comminution and advanced technolo-gies for grinding. This framework comprises a full range of engineering and support services that enable you to maximize the return on your investment.
The yield of grinding operations is highly dependent on the performance of mill linings. Skega Mill Lining Systems have consistently demonstrated a long-run capability to improve grinding effi ciency and reduce costs in a wide range of applica-tions, for both wet and dry processes.
Tailored for specifi c applications
Standard modular components enable Skega Mill Linings to be tailored for specifi c customer requirements at relatively low cost.
Tailor-made systems
Line your mills with qualityOur wear resistant rubber is the long-life foundation of a total lining system. From start to fi nish, production involves continu-ous quality control. Advanced polymer expertise is applied for total batch testing of rubber to ensure precisely the right compound. Daily quality assurance ensures zero-defect deliv-eries of lining components
Metso Minerals know-how is unique
Since the end of the 50’s when Skega pioneered the use of rubber as a wear resistant material within the mineral process-ing industry, we have evolved an unparalleled bank of know-how and experience.
Special grades of rubber compounds for linings
We have developed grades of wear rubber for specifi c operat-ing conditions in various types of mills. Each grade is based on experience of thousands of real-world applications.
Most of our development work is carried out in close coopera-tion with our customers throughout the world. The invaluable knowledge gained during new product testing and evaluation enables us to provide reliable solutions to the often complex problems handed to us by our clients.
Our engineers have developed specifi c designs for the follow-ing applications:
• Autogenous/semiautogenous mills• Rod mills• Ball mills • Vertical mills• Pebble mills • Washer mills/Scrubbers• Discharge systems• Mill trommels• Continuous mills• Batch mills
2 or 3 chamber mills
Spiral shell linings
Conical mills
The appropriate lining for your mill comes from Metso Minerals!High performance lining systems
From feed head through the discharge system, Skega mill linings deliver benefi ts that add up to lower costs and more profi table grinding operations. From the day you order the lining to the day it has to be replaced.
Identifying the appropriate type of lining and profi le is vital for optimizing mill throughput and total grinding costs, including the costs of energy, grinding media and maintenance.
Skega Duoline® Lifter bar system - Spiral shell lining
Rubber linings for continuously grinding mills
Our applications expertise helps users to maximize the payoff on grinding operations.
Wear costs account for a diminishing share of total grinding costs, particularly in secondary mills. Focusing on the eff ects of lining type and profi le on consumption of energy and grinding media enables signifi cant reductions in total costs.
Skega Duoline® a superior lining concept
Dorst 3 x 4 m batch mill with Duoline® in the Netherlands.• Grinding white tiles body for fl oor tiles with silica pebbles.
Previous lining - Conventional rubber lining
Result• 12% increase in charge weight• Total capacity increase > 20% • 9% reduction of batch time • Energy saving 8% • Pebble consumption reduced by 50%
A unique and patented lining generation is Skega Duoline®. It is designed for extremely fi ne grinding such as for porcelain stoneware where the mill is operated with the smooth side of the
lining as the leading face. Installed or operated in the opposite direction or with two-way rotation for specifi c periods of time, it will optimise the grinding of conventional glazed tile body.
Increased effi ciency and lower total costs provide higher profi t• Smooth leading face improves grinding effi ciency of the fi ne
materials such as porcelain stoneware, using alumina balls.• Lifting leading face, or two-way rotation, improves grinding of
glazed tiles body, where silica pebbles are used.• Duoline® usually shortens batch time, resulting in lower energy
consumption.• The high coeffi cient of friction of our special rubber compound
for ceramics grinding makes the balls roll instead of slide to improve effi ciency.
• Rolling forces reduce wear of grinding media and lining.
More than 200 installations of Duoline®
Proven performance
SACMI 3,15 x 4,3 m batch mill with Duoline® in France • Grinding body for porcelain stoneware tiles with alu-balls.
Comparison with 70 mm alumina lining.
Result• 8% reduction of energy consumption• Capacity increase 10%• 10% reduction of batch time
• Compared with Silex, the volume occupied by a lining will be reduced with Duoline®.
• The special rubber compound for ceramics grinding provides superior lining wear life.
• Low lining wear ensures a pure fi nal product with a minimum of contamination.
• Duoline® gives up to 50% noise reduction in comparison with a conventional stone lining.
Skega lifter bar system for batch & continuous grinding millsThe conventional rubber lining concept is ”plate and lifter bar”. It has proved itself through more than 1500 installations world wide.
A prerequisite is of course that the right lifter bar design - width, height and spacing as well as plate thickness - are used.
The new Skega Ecoline™ with detachable fi xing system
• Reversible lifter bars, semi-smooth/lifting• Up to 25% larger mill volume increases production.• Short installation time. Easy to replace.• PolyMax™ wear resistant rubber compound provides superior
lining wear life.
• Requires a minimum of supervision and repair• Increases mill availability.• Up to 50% noise reduction• A Skega lining reduces lining weight by up to 75%.
The environmental and economical consequences of using our new Lifter Bar system:
• The volume of solvents used in our manufacturing process is minimized.
• The fi xing system can be salvaged for re-use..• When worn out, the components are easily separated for
recycling purposes..• Tighter joints minimize the risk of underpacking as the
detachable aluminium profi le enables the rubber to be compressed during installation.
• Delivered in standard lengths to be cut at installation for maximum material usage thereby reducing the waste.
Other features and benefi ts -
• Our new lifter bar is very easy to cut - the rubber with a knife and the aluminium profi le with a metal saw. Therefore it can be stored at our sales companies around the world for quick deliveries.
• Bolt M12 or bolt M16 can be used with the same lifter bar.• Manufactures in our proven Polymax rubber compound
with superior abrasion resistance.
Typical head lining configurations
Straight head
Steel reinforced head plates welded or bolted in place. Fit for use with lifter bar/plate or Duoline® shell linings.
Semi-cupped head
Steel reinforced head plates welded or bolted in place. Filling segment must be installed in the radius between head and shell. Fit for use with lifter bar/plate or Duoline® shell linings.
Cupped head
Lifter bar/plate bolted in place. Filling segment must be installed in the radius between head and shell. This solution is applicable with straight and semi.cupped heads as well.
