    SchoolofArts,LanguagesandCultures this newly ormed School

    is the largest grouping o arts, languages and humanities scholars in

    the UK. It is home to some 6,500 students and approximately 350

    Due to the multidisciplinary nature o psychology, graduates o this

    discipline are very employable. A recent survey by the Higher Education

    Careers Service revealed that psychology graduates enjoy amongst the

    lowest levels o graduate unemployment compared with other disciplines.

    A psychology degree can provide you with a wide range o skills and

    experiences that are attractive to employers, including presentation skills,project management, group-working, statistical data analysis, analytical

    thinking, and experimental research skills. These are valued across a range

    o employment sectors, and graduates rom our degree programme

    currently hold positions in areas as diverse as PR, retail, marketing, media,

    accountancy, teaching and social work.

    In addition, a proportion o students pursue a career in psychology,

    either in an applied role such as educational or clinical psychology or

    Courses

    Choice and fexibility are the hallmarks o our courses. The breadth

    o our research aords us expertise in a large number o areas, allowing

    us to oer degree courses in more than 20 lie science disciplines,

    including Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology,

    Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology

    All rst-year courses have a common core o units introducing undamental

    concepts. This means you can transer between most degree courses at the

    end o your rst year and, in some cases, later. I your interests also include

    subjects outside Lie Sciences, we oer degrees with a language, or you can

    choose optional units rom the entire range oered by the University with

    popular choices including law, language and business units.

    Most o our degree courses are available as a our-year course, in which

    Teachingandfacilities

    Teaching in Lie Sciences at Manchester was rated as excellent in a

    recent independent review. Teaching is conducted via lectures, inormal

    tutorials, seminars, laboratory sessions and eld courses, giving you plenty

    o opportunity to interact with sta and other students in small groups.

    Alongside these traditional approaches, we also employ a number o more

    innovative teaching methods including student-led Peer Assisted Study,

    which was pioneered in the Faculty.

    In addition, our curriculum is inormed by our research, so you will have

    opportunities to learn cutting-edge science, taught by the researchers who

    have discovered it, and to contribute to this research through project work

    in your nal year.

    Employment prospects or graduates o lie sciences courses are

    excellent. About 50 per cent o our students choose to pursue a career

    closely related to their degree. Many progress on to study or urther

    qualications, others are employed within the pharmaceutical or

    agrochemical industries and medical technology and some work or

    research institutes and government agencies. The remaining 50 per cent

    are highly sought ater by large multinational organisations and take upcareers in management, accountancy, marketing, law, publishing and

    many others.

    One o Manchesters biggest names in sport is, o course, Manchester

    United Football Club. Their home at Old Traord is the largest club ground

    in the UK. 2012 Premiership winners Manchester City are based on the

    other side o the city at their Etihad Stadium, which was originally built

    class sporting acilities, including the Manchester Aquatics Centre on the

    University campus. In addition, national and international cricket can be

    Manchester is the shopping capital o the North and has a range o top

    department stores, popular high street chains and designer boutiques.

    The Northern Quarter oers a unique experience with its mix o bars,

    I you meet the programmes academic entry requirements but do not meet the minimum English language

    This module takes an evolutionary approach

    to biology and considers dierent levels oorganisation in living systems. You will study
