Design studios occasionally employ illustrators on a permanent basis, but the majority of illustrators are freelance, working from home or a small studio and negotiating sales via an agent or directly with clients.

Freelance work, usually paid per illustration, tends to be more lucrative than working for an employer, but agents may take up to 40%. Some illustrators also sell work through “stock houses” who may take a substantial commission.

Luck plays a part. Some illustrators soon discover a market for their talents and so receive plentiful commissions: others may have many rejections before securing work. Workloads may fluctuate, from none to too much,

Pay me be low and irregular, according to the state of the market. Earnings during the first years may be patchy and many illustrators take part time jobs.

“perfect choice school” Ferris state University In big rapids, Michigan Ferris state university is a public university that is home to ten

academic colleges, which offer over 180 degree programs. It was founded in 1884 and was listed as the 22nd best public school in the Midwest by U.S. news and world report in 2012.

Ferris state has an art school which they are incorporated, Kendall. It’s a design school, and it’s really affordable. It’s also really easy to get into, people who say it’s hard to, it’s not. It’s just a public college, and it’s part of Ferris state.

If I where to go to Ferris State, I could do my art business at Kendall, and do my phlebotomy at Ferris state, I could do them both. Through Ferris state university’s department of clinical science, respiratory care and health care administration, students can complete certificate and degree programs in health information technology, respiratory care and medical laboratory technology, including a certificate in phlebotomy. The phlebotomy certificate program consists of five courses, including practicum.

Differences

There is a huge difference between a phlebotomist and an illustrator.

Phlebotomist you don’t need much schooling, as an artist if you want to make it you need a great education.

Phlebotomist is guaranteed pay, artist is not always.

As an artist you don’t really have to work with people a lot, you can have an agent that handles that.

Page 16: Illustration: Creating original artwork using any of a wide variety of mediums and techniques, such as painting and sculpture. Phlebotomist: Draw.

Similarities

If I wanted too, I could incorporate the medical field with my art, I could do illustrations for medical books, or medical projects and draw organs and such.

Your working with people a lot. Pay is good. Both inside more then likely.

Page 17: Illustration: Creating original artwork using any of a wide variety of mediums and techniques, such as painting and sculpture. Phlebotomist: Draw.

What I prefer

I honestly would do both, it makes more sense too. I could be a phlebotomist as my side job, and have money coming in while I could do my art and schooling the rest.

But If I could I would just focus on my art, but you are never absolutely sure you are going to make it, I mean I am confident enough that I could, but you never really know. And I don’t want to struggle with money my whole damn life.
