Wisdom of the Saints It is in united families that children bring their small lives into full maturity, living the meaningful and effective experience of love freely given and received, of tenderness, mutual respect, mutual understanding, forgiveness and joy.

—Pope Francis The only true riches are those that make us rich in virtue. Therefore, if you want to be rich, beloved, love true riches. If you aspire to heights of real honor, strive to reach the kingdom of heaven. If you value rank and renown, hasten to be enrolled in the heavenly court of the Angels.

—St. Gregory the Great The virtuous soul that is alone and without a master, is like a lone burning coal; it will grow colder rather than hotter.

—St. John of the Cross

piphany Proclamation 2016 While a day like Christmas is fixed in our minds and on the calendars on December 25th, many of the important feasts of the Church year move, based upon the date that

Easter is set. Easter changes each year moving to the Sunday after the "Paschal Full Moon," (after the vernal equinox) and can fall between March 22 and April 25. In ancient times before calendars were common, most people did not know the dates for the upcoming Liturgical year. On Epiphany Sunday, the upcoming dates were "proclaimed" after the gospel in this way: Dear brothers and sisters,

the glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return. Through the rhythms of times and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation. Let us recall the year's culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord: his last supper, his crucifixion, his burial, and his rising celebrated between the evening of the Twenty-Fourth day of March and the evening of the Twenty-Sixth day of March, Easter Sunday being on the Twenty-Seventh day of March. Each Easter -- as on each Sunday -- the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has for ever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the Tenth day of February. The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on Thursday, the Fifth day of May. Pentecost, joyful conclusion of the season of Easter , will be celebrated on the Fifteenth day of May. And, this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the Twenty-Seventh day of November. Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the holy Mother of God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed. To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise, for ever and ever. Amen.

CULTURE OF LIFE, 9 DAYS OF PRAYER

The US Conference of Catho-lic Bishops is calling for 9 days of prayer from Saturday, Jan.16, 2016 - Sunday, Jan. 24 centered on pro-life ad-vancement. Many eyes were opened in 2015 relating to the horrific procedures involved in many aspects of the work of those who are not pro-life. As a result we now see new hope for the children waiting to be born, children sent by their Creator for a great pur-pose. On Jan. 18 we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. who said on Christ-mas in 1967: "Now let me say that the next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirma-tion of the sacredness of all human life. Every man is somebody because he is a child of God... Man is more than a vagary of whirling electrons or a wisp of smoke from a limitless smoldering. Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such." King was speaking of every kind of violence to man, in-cluding war. He challenged all to embrace and protect each child God intended for the world. In the coming year, let's deepen our resolve and sense of urgency as we fight for Life and peace. For ideas please contact: Carol, 201 391-6431 or Marilyn, New Hope, Inc., 201 722-4705.
