Everyone knows that for a piece of equipment to work effectively it needs to fit. No matter what your shape and sizeyour saddle needs to fit and work for you and your horse...

At GFS we have designed a range of all purpose saddles for the petite adult rider typically 5’3” tall and under. There is no longer a need to struggle with a saddle that is too big, or squeeze ones self into a pony saddle.

GFS have a specialist range of saddles designed to cater forteenagers and small adult riders. The precedent for the petite range was set with the development of theTweenager. The Tweenager addresses the fact that typicallyteenagers have a relatively long hip to knee measurement,yet their body shape is very slim and unlike a full adult.

The problem with finding the ideal saddle, therefore, is thatthe flap size needed to accommodate the longer femur isfound on an adult sized saddle; however, such a saddlewould have an overly large seat.

Following intensive research, design and testing the GFSTweenager was born as the ultimate compromise: an appropriately sized seat paired with a longer flap. Longerlegs are taken care of without the rider’s bottom being in a seat that is far too big! The Tweenager offers the confidence that comes with comfort and contact.

The tremendous reception we had to the Tweenagerprompted us to address other body types that traditionallymay have been neglected. As a consequence the Elite SP was created.

Aimed at the rider who is possibly 5’3” and under, the Elite SP is the perfect transition between a pony saddle andadult saddle, that often has flaps that are disproportionallytoo long for both horse and rider.

With the same petite rider in mindthe Generation Training SP completes the range by offering an excellent value training saddle for the smallerrider.

Leather loses a percentage of its fat content

every day of its life, and just as we need food to

replace our energy, so leather needs constant

replenishment if it is to continue to lead a useful

life. (Hartley Edwards, E., 1963 Saddlery)

Proper leather care is crucial to maximise the life of asaddle and bridle. Leather is a natural product and if it is allowed to dry out it will eventually peel andcrack. Spending a little time cleaning and caring foryour tack will pay dividends in the future.

Cleaning and Care:• CLEAN leather by removing dirt with a damp cloth.

• TAKE steps to replenish the lost moisture and fat content

in your leather.

• NEVER use hot water and do not soak your tack.

• ALWAYS allow wet leather to dry naturally.

Products:• Traditional glycerine based saddle soap can be used to

clean your tack. However, apply sparingly and do

not use in isolation as saddle soap does not replace any

fat content.

• Hide foods should be used occasionally to replace lost

moisture and fat content. Always allow three

hours for hide food to soak in.

• Oil must be used sparingly as over saturation will result

in limpness.

• Waxed creams create a waxy barrier between the

leather and the atmosphere offering a layer of

protection.

Developed by legendary Show Jumper Nelson Pessoa,

the Pessoa Training Aid is considered by many to be an

essential tool for every horseman. Working in harmony

with the horse; it persuades and suggests, helping the

horse to find its optimum balance and rhythm.

Typical schooling aids often create a rigid contact with the horse’s mouth. In contrast, the Pessoa Training Aid recognised that to work correctly a fluid contact is required to accommodate individual movements. This is created by a series of sympathetic ropes and pulleys that are used while lunging to encourage the horse to work in the perfectshape.

When developing the Training Aid, Nelson Pessoa acknowledged that a horse’s all importantback muscles need to be free when working to achieve that all desired balance and impulsion.The Pessoa Training Aid promotes this philosophy and, therefore, supports the development ofback muscles in all horses. Ideally, work with the Pessoa Training Aid should begin when thehorse is young.

Regular use of the Pessoa Training Aid as part of a horse’s training routine will help develop thefree forward flowing paces required to succeed in all competitive spheres. The Pessoa TrainingAid should be gradually introduced into a work regime, starting in walk, then trot and finallywhen the horse is settled, canter. 1. Before washing, remove excess dirt and mud with a hose or stiff brush. Fasten all Velcro tabs, otherwise this will reduce their effectiveness.

2. Either hand wash or machine wash your rug/blanket (front-load machines only, please!) on a gentle cycle.

3. Use only cool wash temps. (max 30°C, 85°F) and mild, non biological detergents – otherwise you risk damaging the unique waterproof, breathable coating.

4. Line or drip dry (never tumble/machine dry!). Do not iron or dry clean.

5. Store your GFS rug/blanket in a cool, dry area.

Ultimo ProSpecific to the GFS range Ultimo Pro is a high technology breathable and waterproof coating that keeps on lasting.

AquafendExclusive to Pessoa horse clothing, Aquafend is a durable waterproof and highly breathable coating.

Ballistic NylonA ballistic nylon is a very tightly woven and therefore strong and durable fabric.

DenierA denier figure expresses the thickness of the yard used to make a fabric. A higher denier fabric has thicker fabricswhile lower deniers have a finer fabric.

ThermofilThermofil is a collection of various levelsof thermopore filling with breathable properties, which ensure warmth for thehorse.

Balance Strap Tab

Moulded PanelA moulded panel is preformed in a mould, which produces a flat even surface. This type of panel is very low maintenance.

A nylon web tab is fitted towards the rear of the tree: this enables the saddler to stitch on a leather girth strap if required. This balance strapwill then inhibit the saddlefrom moving on the horse’sback.

An extra deep gusset is used to re-balance the seat ensuring that the rider sits in balance and is commonly used to avoid that riding downhill look.

A nylon web tab is fitted to the point of the tree; this enables a saddler to stitch ona leather girth strap if required.This point strap will then inhibit the saddle slippingonto the horses shoulder area.

A shallow gusset helps prevent that ‘perched on top’look, as the rider will sit closer to the horse.

An accessible length of nylonwebbing is left to allow easy repair or replacement of girth straps.

Secured with Velcro these largejumping blocks are easily adjustedto accommodate rider leg lengthand preferred position. A largerblock offers maximum security inthe saddle.

A standard jumping kneeblock supports the knee whenthe rider has taken up jumpingposition. The top part of theknee will rest up against theblock making the rider moresecure.

A pencil knee roll lends support to the rider, but allows more freedom throughthe leg than a standard kneeroll.

A standard knee roll offers the rider security in the saddle and assistance with their leg position up against the block making the rider more secure.
