BIENVENIDOS AL AP-LENGUA ESPANOLA 2010-2011 SRA. KLEINMAN

All students enrolled in AP Spanish Language are required to complete the following summer assignment prior to the start of class in September. One part of the assignment will review grammar topics covered during Spanish 4H while the rest of the assignment will integrate the use of technology with the maintenance of language acquisition through real-life situations.

The assignments herein were chosen to foster the continued development of your more advanced communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, all of which are tested on the AP Spanish Language Examination.

There are several required exercises plus ONE optional assignment. Be sure to follow all directions as you work in order to receive credit for your output. IT SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING THAT ALL WORK SHOULD BE COMPLETED ON YOUR OWN. You may use dictionaries, grammar references, books, and designated online resources. You may enjoy watching videos or television programs, or listening to radio shows or podcasts. You are free to discuss the activities and your opinions with other students, but remember, all the work you hand in must be yours, and not that of another student, another adult, or any other source. Evidence or even suspicion of a translator, electronic or human, will result in ZERO CREDIT.

REQUIRED WORK:

1. You must see me by Monday, June 14 to pick up your copy of UNA VEZ MAS, the AP Grammar textbook. The page numbers to review and complete follow this overview.

2. You must write a 100 word letter (en español, por supuesto) introducing yourself, or re-introducing yourself, if I already know you. Address the letter to Estimada Señora Kleinman, and use the Ud. form of the verb every time you use the word “you” either directly or as understood within the verb. You should tell me about yourself, your goals for this year in Spanish and your other classes and for beyond your graduation. Please email this to me, DOUBLE-SPACED, somewhere between Aug. 28 – Sept. 3 at [email protected]. I will pick it up and grade it before you get to class, so do a good job making a nice first impression.

3. There is a vocabulary packet, “En el café”. Study the expressions and complete the exercises as you prepare for a vocabulary quiz in September.

4. You must complete the Hablando en español project and BE PREPARED TO PRESENT IT THE WEEK OF RETURN TO CLASS. (Instructions enclosed)

5. There is also an Escuchando y escribiendo Project (Instructions enclosed). You MUST DO ONE of these, and may do the additional one FOR EXTRA CREDIT. Make sure that

you label #1 and #2 plus which one will be the extra credit (= up to +2 points on your first quarter grade).

A copy of the article must be attached to your reaction paper when you hand it in. This optional assignment is due on the Friday of the first week back at school. You may do up to two (2) articles. TEXTO: Una Vez Más – Gramática

In Spanish 4H we covered approximately half the grammar in this textbook. However, the chapters here describe the functions in Spanish language. Review the designated pages and take notes on any additional rules or exceptions in each chapter, and then write out the answers to the exercises on separate in the grammar section of your notebook. Do not write anything in the textbook itself. This looks like a lot, but we have done most of it before and should be verrrry easy for you to finish quickly.
