Fourth generation cattle farmers John, Keith, Alex and Chauncey Hammond have been breeding Wagyu on Robbins Island since the early 1990’s.Situated on the north western tip of Tasmania, the island has a temperate climate, clean air and a pristine coastal environment. The cool climate, salt air, and pristine environment are ideal for naturally raising some of the most tender and best tasting beef in the world. Robbins Island Wagyu are members of the Australian Wagyu Association. Featuring Beef Marble Scores of 7+, the taste signature is a great combination of specific Wagyu genetics, regional pasture influences and a pristine environment.

和牛品种 The Wagyu Breed

The Robbins Island Wagyu program started in 1993 with progeny from Michifuku, one of the most famous Tajima sires. Michifuku and his father Monjiro are renowned throughout the world for their sort after prize winning genes and high marbling characteristics. When combined with Hammond families’ expertise in farming, the pristine environment and unique feed ration, Robbins Island Wagyu is one of the truly unique Wagyu products on the market. Robbins Island cattle are retained on pasture for at least two years before moving to supplemental grain finishing for consistency of marbling. The feed ration has been created with the animal’s natural diet in mind, incorporating a high ratio of grass fodder and kelp seaweed extract from nearby King Island to reflect the local flora. In addition, the herd has been selectively bred to carry the elusive ‘soft fat’ gene, traditionally sort after by the Japanese for its lower melting points and buttery mouth feel.

Killara Feedlot Quirindi New South Wales, located in the premium agricultural region of the Liverpool Plains in NSW, and one of the oldest and most well-known feedlots in Australia, dating back to the 1970’s. Killara was built and developed by Japanese meat company, Mitsubishi in the 1970’s. Killara Feedlot has a long and valued history with the Angus breed. In the 1980’s Killara produced the well know Angus brand for the export market; thirty years on Killara’s affair with the Angus breed continues, feeding more than 30,000 grain-fed Angus steers annually for its own Killara Angus brand. This product is distributed throughout Australia and the world with key markets in the Middle East, European Union, United Kingdom, China, Japan and Indonesia. Most of their cattle are sourced from within 700km of the feedlot, with key supplier strategies focusing on repeat business, large lines, good genetics and the pre-conditioning of cattle ready for feedlot conditions. Killara produce a premium product and this starts with buying the right cattle.
