• In 2010 the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board received funding to assist NW Tribes with Public Health accreditation and Quality Improvement.

• At the time we were in the midst of redesigning our clinical system of care.

• We were also reorganizing in other areas, such as Community Health Services.

• Historically medically underserved• Significant health disparities• Cultural uniqueness• Cradle-to-grave care • Workforce nuances• Tribal Sovereignty

Process:•Collaboration with St. Anthony’s Hospital.•Umatilla County Community Partnership.•Community Health Partnership Journey.

Process:•Adopt Healthy People 2020 Objectives; incorporate into Annual Work Plan.

Holds us to a higher standard and it is measurable.

•Requires community participation; Public Health Accreditation Team (PHAT).•Supports development of a QuaIity Improvement program.

Foundation of Strategic Plan:•Needs assessment: currently asking the community what services they need and/or want.•Other assessments: Planning Committee, Circles of Care, and Maternal Child Health.

• Position description assessment (Mills Group NW).

• Assessment of competencies.• Do we have the right positions given our

user population’s health needs?• Identify training to develop Public Health

capacity within workforce.

understanding of roles/responsibilities within legal landscape.
