One of the strongest principles of WLCI’s model of education is to prepare the students for the industry. Therefore, Industrial visits is a vital part of the curriculum. On the 14th and 15th of March, 2013, an industrial visit was planned by Nutan Ma’am and Shiraz Ma’am, stalwarts of the Fashion Dept. to help the students understand more about how things are done in the fashion industry. During the course of 2 days, a total of 14 students aimed to understand the workings of Hakoba embroidery, production and usage of beads, rhinestones etc on garments and other products, Saree printing and Raschel and Warp Knitted Fabrics and Laces. EDUCATIONAL TOUR PROGRAMME

Mumbai – Bhilad – Valsad – Surat – Mumbai

One of the strongest principles of WLCI’s model of education is to prepare the students for the industry. Therefore, Industrial visits is a vital part of the curriculum.On the 14th and 15th of March, 2013, an industrial visit was planned by Nutan Ma’am and Shiraz Ma’am, stalwarts of the Fashion Dept. to help the students understand more about how things are done in the fashion industry.

After boarding the FEROZPUR JANTA from various points, we set off for BHILAD, our first stop in the programme.

Art group has been consistent in the manufacture and export of a wide range of superior quality Glass Beads, Machine Cut Chatons Beads, Cup Chains, Hotfix Rhinestones etc. that find its application in jewellery, garments, handicrafts and the likes.

Art group is the largest producer of its kind in Asia.Their products are used all throughout the world.They also have a proactive R&D dept. which has helped them grow rapidly over the years.They are influenced by the European model of industries.

After a long and tiring day, we checked in at Hotel Sunshine at 10 PM, where we were to bunk for the night.A sumptuous dinner and good night’s sleep followed so we could be totally prepared for DAY 2.

LAXMIPATI SAREE MILLS

Laxmipati Sarees is a well known brand in the Textile market of Asia. They are not only known for the quality of their products, but also for the quantity they produce, which makes them one of the biggest players in the industry.

They specialise in Kaddak Synthetic Sarees, Banarasi Sarees, Khadi Print sarees  etc.

However, most of their designs are inspired and influenced by Floral patterns.

At Laxmipati Sarees, we were shown the entire process of how a saree design is made. From sketching to digitising and colouring the work to final printing.

How the dyes are used.

How embroidery is done and stones are fitted into products.

Elaborate machines working tirelessly to the designs fed to it.

Washing and checking the product for errors.

Laxmipati Sarees was the last stop of the entire educational programme.

After we left, wee had to race against time to catch out train back to Mumbai.

This perhaps, was the most entertaining part of the entire trip when all of us had to run with our luggage through the busy streets of Surat, with the bystanders bewildered at the sight of us hurrying.

But we all caught the train, which in itself was an experience.
