S1 Induction Trip Abernethy Trust Outdoor Centre : Barcaple

Why do we do this trip?

• Establish positive relationships

– New S1s get to know the new people in their class

– Gives staff opportunities to get to know the young people really well

• The main aims for pupils

• Develop confidence and resilience

• Encourage team work

• Develop communication skills

• Experience learning outside of the classroom

Links with Curriculum for Excellence

• Helps to foster an appreciation for the natural environment.

• Work towards John Muir Award which we complete in May in the school.

• Emphasis on personal responsibility and resilience.

What happens on the trip?

• From arriving pupils will take part in a range of activities.

• Tree climb, zip line, abseiling, blind ropes courses, assault courses, raft building, mountain biking and more…

Barcaple – Main House

What happens on the trip?

• Dorm style bedrooms – 3-8 pupils

• Rooming requests next week during tutor time – 3 names

– Please ensure they are attending the trip on the same days!

What happens on the trip?

• Breakfast and dinner served in the dining room.

• Packed lunch provided for 2 days.

• However, pupils will need to bring their own packed lunch for the first day.

• Free time spent outdoors/ games room.

• Please don’t bring valuables!

What are the details?

• 3 day/2 nights trip

– Mon 16th to Wed 18th September

– Classes 1L1, 1L2, 1R

– Wed 18th to Fri 20th September

– Classes 1K1, 1K2, 1T

• Total cost £155 (reduction available for registered for free school meals)

• Final numbers no later than Monday 26th August

• Final balance to be paid by 27th September

• “I think the best bit about going to Barcaple is that you have the opportunity to make loads of new friends, do things that you would not normally do and how that the instructors are really kind and know what they're doing”

• “The best thing about Barcaple was the opportunity to meet new people from other schools and getting to know more about the pupils in your class”

Hyndland Secondary School Parent Council

First meeting for this year is on Tuesday 3rd September at 6.30pm – the meeting will be in the staff room in the first floor

of the Lauderdale building.

All parents/carers welcome to come along.

During your workshop with Pastoral Care please take a post it note and write the name of your child and

question on it – either Mrs Forrester or Mrs Mitchell will call you back with an

answer in the next few days!
